I always think conversations like this are funny. As much as folks like to compare the Army and the Marine Corps you can't because there rolls are different. The Army's Primary roll is to secure and hold ground the Marine Corps is to spearhead and carve the path ( Army has special units for this). Case in point WWII in the Pacific Marines took the Islands...Army secured them

Just saying. If you look for weakness, you will find it. I saw LCPLs smoke weed in Now Zad. I got a camera stolen on the same patrol that a Marine Major got his sidearm stolen in Lashkar Gah. I saw a shitbag PsyOps Army Reservist rise to the occasion and take over the ECP after a Georgian took a chunk of metal to the face at a USMC Garrison in Nimroz during a firefight (OF HIS OWN INITIATIVE).
That being said, Marines have save my life plenty of times. To me, Army Infantry and Marine Infantry are on equal footing, and that comes from experience. So, judge the individual, not the service!

Mind, they do an excellent job because they feel like they have something to prove, but the standard USMC infantry individual gets LESS combat training than Army soldiers. The Army Rangers are like the Marines of the Navy branch, but the Army has the Army RANGERS, (they lead the way) much like Marines go to war first. That is why the RANGERS went to war first in Afghanistan because " They Lead The Way". There's only a few of them just like the marines. But RANGERS have far more intensive training than marines does and no women are allowed in the Army RANGERS!

I know the Marines where to first to have the digital camouflage uniforms, but is it true that the army decided to change over to the same pattern. Because most (if not all) forces around the world fear the Marines, which the army knew, so they wanted to confuse the enemy to have them think they are Marines?
I've been around Army all my life (not in the services yet. I plan on joining the Army or Marines as a helo pilot), and I haven't that much complaining about the differences between the services.
When you get down to it, does it matter? When there is somebody shooting at you, when you and your fellow soldiers lives are at stake, are you going to refuse help just because help comes from the other service?

Marines, a branch of the United States Navy. There are not as many Marines due to enlistment quotas not being as high as in the Army. And Marines always watch after there corpsman.... Corpsman Up! Stop bashing. We're all Americans here.

If my memory is correct the Marine Corps was the first to have the new uniforms buddy. We came out with ours in 2002. I believe the Army did not have digital uniforms till close to 2004-2005 time range. Another thing the Marine Corps was the first to Baghdad in 2002 when the war in Iraq started. If the Army was so expandable as you say why aren't they guarding the U.S. Embassies around the world and providing security for the President.
They send the Marines to US Embassies, and to go "guard the white house" while the "Secret Service" guards the President and his whole family while the US Army's out doing all the fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The Marine Corps was not first to Baghdad, 3rd Infantry Division of the US Army was, and that is a cold hard fact that can be supported with actual evidence.

You trained with the Rangers? Again, I WAS a Ranger. Once a Marine, Always a Marine? Not after you go over to the Dark Side (75th RR). That's how it goes. You're trying to compare a true Elite Special Operations Infantry REGIMENT that has proven themselves COUNTLESS times in not only History of the past, but today in modern combat. The Marines have always felt the need to prove themselves, you rarely hear a Ranger talking about Marine vs Ranger (except for me, of course)!!

The Rangers are right on par with Recon, and they're only a step lower than Army Special Forces, because of the fact that they don't require speaking several foreign languages. When it comes to going in hard/fast/lethal, or conducting Recon on areas for extended periods of time... they call in the Rangers first, MAYBE Recon.

Most definitely. I served with them, went to Iraq in '91 with the 31st MEU, and lost some very good friends. I in no doubt have respect for the MARINES, and in fact, every US Servicemember... but no one else. Anyone claiming to be something they haven't earned the title of isn't worth the tiem or arguement. The junior ranking "idealists" are also becoming more "ballsy" in terms of "thinking they know their shit", and that eats away at an old, retired SGM!
Alright Sergeant Major this is my final thing in my batt;e of words with you. You can say all the crap you want after this. Take 10 BASICALLY trained soldiers and 10 BASICALLY trained Marines. The Marine corps has the best and hardest trainning than any other branch. Being a Marine if I want to go to any other branch I can no problem after my contract is up. But any other branch no matter weather you were Navy seay, paratrooper, army ranger. None of that mattears. You still have to go to Marine corps bootcamp. You have to earn the title. The Army's Primary roll is to secure and hold ground the Marine Corps is to spearhead and carve the path ( Army has special units for this). I can pick on the Army all day, but I will also admit the Army has done some great things in the past. The current Army is a sad joke however. It's as bad as public education. They lowered the standards so everyone can get by. In my eyes, even the Marine Corps is going soft. Mothers of America is ruining our military and the Army was the first to fall. Yea the Navy my owns the Marine Corps, but we operate %100 individually and at a fraction of the cost.

...why in the hell did I personally watch one of your Soldiers melt a 249 SAW barrel in a total panic? And in a situation totally uncalled for. No bearing, no discipline. Why do Army conveys shoot at fellow service conveys? That one really gets me, but I eventually discovered the answer to that. Because they are to afraid to stand tall in the turret and look at what they are shooting. Why was I able to establish a nice collection of Army rifles in Kuwait? Lack of accountability.

I was talking to a recruiter, former marines, a marine sniper, and I almost signed, but the Marine's don't guarentee you a job. The Army does. Mind, they do an excellent job because they feel like they have something to prove, but the standard USMC infantry individual gets LESS combat training than Army soldiers. Marines may have the best looks, logos, cooks, air support, whatever. But they don't have the best Infantry, which in my opinion, is one of the most essential things to a military branch.

The Army Rangers are like the Marines of the Navy branch, but the Army has the Army RANGERS, (they lead the way) much like Marines go to war first. That is why the RANGERS went to war first in Afghanistan because " They Lead The Way". There's only a few of them just like the marines. But RANGERS have far more intensive training than marines does and no women are allowed in the Army RANGERS!

My God, a lot of you sound like complete idiots.
I've been around Army all my life (not in the services yet. I plan on joining the Army or Marines as a helo pilot), and I haven't that much complaining about the differences between the services.
When you get down to it, does it matter? When there is somebody shooting at you, when you and your fellow soldiers lives are at stake, are you going to refuse help just because help comes from the other service?

If my memory is correct the Marine Corps was the first to have the new uniforms buddy. We came out with ours in 2002. I believe the Army did not have digital uniforms till close to 2004-2005 time range. Another thing the Marine Corps was the first to Baghdad in 2002 when the war in Iraq started. If the Army was so expandable as you say why aren't they guarding the U.S. Embassies around the world and providing security for the President.

Because the Marines AREN'T as expendable.
They send the Marines to US Embassies, and to go "guard the white house" while the "Secret Service" guards the President and his whole family while the US Army's out doing all the fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan.
The Marine Corps was not first to Baghdad, 3rd Infantry Division of the US Army was, and that is a cold hard fact that can be supported with actual evidence.
The Marines were the THIRD into Baghdad in 03.

You trained with the Rangers? Again, I WAS a Ranger. Once a Marine, Always a Marine? Not after you go over to the Dark Side (75th RR). That's how it goes. You're trying to compare a true Elite Special Operations Infantry REGIMENT that has proven themselves COUNTLESS times in not only History of the past, but today in modern combat. The Marines have always felt the need to prove themselves, you rarely hear a Ranger talking about Marine vs Ranger (except for me, of course)!!

Another thing, since youtube only allows 500 characters per comment; The Marines always try to compare their entire CORPS to a small Special Operations Regiment! Ignorance!
The Rangers are right on par with Recon, and they're only a step lower than Army Special Forces, because of the fact that they don't require speaking several foreign languages. When it comes to going in hard/fast/lethal, or conducting Recon on areas for extended periods of time... they call in the Rangers first, MAYBE Recon.

Most definitely. I served with them, went to Iraq in '91 with the 31st MEU, and lost some very good friends. I in no doubt have respect for the MARINES, and in fact, every US Servicemember... but no one else. Anyone claiming to be something they haven't earned the title of isn't worth the tiem or arguement. The junior ranking "idealists" are also becoming more "ballsy" in terms of "thinking they know their shit", and that eats away at an old, retired SGM!

The Army has more than 1 million personel, while the Marines is a CORPS. There's less than half marines than there are soldiers. I've been able to talk to retired veterans from both the Army and the Marines (They both had 25+years on them. The Army guy having 29 years), both of them are quite humble. They don't flame the other service just because they think they are better.
They RESPECT each other.

The Marine corps has the best and hardest trainning than any other branch. Being a Marine if I want to go to any other branch I can no problem after my contract is up. But any other branch no matter weather you were Navy seay, paratrooper, army ranger. None of that mattears. You still have to go to Marine corps bootcamp. You have to earn the title. Me being a Marine, any branch cause myself and other fellow Marines are already the BEST. Semper Fi

better SF? really? so force recon is a joke right? scout snipers are a joke right? i dare u to tell a sniper, to his face, that he's not good enough for u. and to beat a dead horse, qualified marines can do the HALO course, which actually requires u to properly freefall, w/ combat load, then to fly a canopy, not just float aimlessly. and part of the course is to do it all at night w/ NVG's. so let me appologize on behalf of the marine corps for not being good enough for mr. armyfuckstick.

But ya know how it is, having a jump school you can go to without having to go into the special forces of an already elite branch is what it's about. Korea the Chinese wouldn't fight the "American's with khaki leggings" but they would fight the army. In Somalia they wouldn't fight the "shiny boots" but they would fight the army. But ya know why fight with the best when you can jump out of perfectly good airplanes?

Actually, the USMC are equal to Soldiers.
Check out the "Webster's Dictionary" definition for "Marine".
Marine is only another word for "soldier in relation to a Naval force".
There's nothing more special about either branch.
The Marines have their pogs, just like the US Army. The only difference, is the Marine pogs get trained better.
Everything else is equal, except for US Army special ops.
