@r3demption91 - actually i don't own a turbo car...but i think compressor surging engines are mainly fitted in high HP engines...well the BPU engines usually use BOV...nope...the turbo will get used to it...compressor surge also sound sexy lol...haha :)

@Gonzarelli When throttle body valve is closed on complete liftoff, and nowhere for the boost supplied by the turbo for WOT to exit, it has to escape by going somewhere. It will mostly try to exit through the compressor blade, and/or stall the turbo, run it backwards, which puts loads on the shaft bearings that they were not designed for. This does not happen when a properly calibrated blow off valve and wastegate is implemented.

Here we go, COMPRESSOR SURGE happens when the turbo's compressor is "asked" to produce a greater pressure ratio than it can sustain at a given volume of flow. Essentially the compressor wheel cavitates and unloads the turbine, and a spike in turbo RPMs occurs. TURBO FLUTTER is cause by a faulty blow-off-valve or restrictive piping (happens when throttle is released)

NOW true Compressor Surge is when the turbo is pushed outside of its ability to compress air. say safely the turbo setup you have is only able to make 20psi due to back pressure and compressor wheel design. and you attempt to go lets say 25psi. the outcome will be the turbo stalling trying to compress the air but the back pressure forcing the compressor and turbine wheel to spin backwards, causing damage to the turbines shaft

not all compressor surge is as bad as you people might believe. if you run your turbo at 20psi but during a run, then let off before you build full boost.. say 18psi, the BOV will not open causing all the air that is now trapped between the throttle plate and the turbo to escape. Going the opposite direction of the initial flow AKA back through the turbo. and the Flutter noise you here is the compressor wheel chopping up the air.

Hks Bov sounds very distinctive. Alot of tuners know what it sounds like. and usually why the HKS bov is good is because its a pull type rather than pull so it can handle more pressure without leaking, and release more air. the current bov he's useing isn't letting enough air out so the air bounces back and forth causeing that noise which isn't good. So he needs a better bov or a second one to compensate for the extra boost

was having this problem on my sbc with a gt45 , blow off valve was not opening enough. tapped my intake manifold and ran a 3/8 line to just power brakes and T'd the bov into that now it opens when revving in neutral and no surge problems.
