Why fly at all? Finland is the worst environmental friendly country of the Scandinavian ones. SAS is not as big because Denmark, Norway and Sweden work for a better nature - trying to finance and build better and faster trains for an instance.

1:41 That picture is from 80's or something and there are no MD-11's operating in Finnair's fleet no more. Last one whas took out of service recently. Also 757's are going to fly their last flights in Finnair colors very soon. I don't think those are even used anymore for regular flight traffic, only for some charter flights or travel agencies.

@Bendikoro Well the way i see it, is that if SAS keeps loosing money so much theyll be selling their stakes out of other airlines in no time! In one year, finland has taken 50% of SAS's asian travelers. Also, its not how many planes you have, its how you use them. The biggest hit for SAS is that the swedish kings family use Finnair to fly them. :)

It's not about the size of the fleet. It's about how they treat passangers and how safe tey are. Btw, finnair never had an accident. Not a single passanger or crew has ever gotten hurt when they have flewn with finnair.

And 50 of SAS planes are very very old MD82's etc. I'd say that average age of SAS fleet is older than Finnairs. Also most of SAS's planes are small regional airliners SAS has only 11 wide body airchafts. Finnair has 27 if you count the ones ordered.

My mother used Finnair and had a horrible experience with them. Flight from Helsinki to Shanghai got cancelled due to "technical reasons". She has been keep waiting for some information almost 3 hours at the airport. Finally she was asked to go to a hotel nearby the Airport (Finnair did not bothered to bring her with a shuttle bus). Finally the day after, after nearly 12 hours of silence, Finnair told her she was re-routed to Shanghai via Nagoya airport.

Yes, Finnair have Old MD-11 but last of them will leave in 2010. And SAS have old MD80 series, they burn much fuel. SAS have also good fuel economy airbuses, but also old MD 81, 82 and 87, hopefully Finnair give up those in 2006.

SAS got MD-80s which are quite old and surely experiencing technical problems too. Also, SAS had to sell all Dash airplanes, in which they invested a lot of money. This means that they lost a huge amount of economy. Plus Finnair has no record of crashes unlike SAS.

No onhan näitä vähän vanhempia 737 ihan monilla hyvilläkin yhtiöillä euroopassa, 737 on maailman myydyin matkustajalentokone, siksi sille onnettomuuksia enemmän sattuukin kun niitä on käytössä niin paljon. Mutta on sassilla kyllä huonommat koneet.
