Hey, just letting you know - nice work on showing people these cars deserve a spot right next to the Mustangs. If anything, a spot higher than that because of how hard they are to come by in good shape. I'm actually REALLY hoping to grab this mint one on Craigslist for $1,500 this weekend. T-tops and all. I used to own a Fox, and still have my Camaro. These Capri's are about as different as it gets while still using an awesome platform.
Thank you. It is certainly not professional quality, but it is what I can afford as a non rich guy with a family. I do all the work myself. There is no better feeling than beating a rich guy in a bracket race that you just know that the person paid someone to do the work for him and he just climbed in and raced the completed for him car.
Yes, I ran it for all of 2008. I sent the MSD out to get repaired so that fixed that problem. Ended up running 6.60's in the 1/8th at 101 or so mph. 60 foots around 1.46. Unfortunately I spun a rod bearing over the winter last year when I had to start it to move it one day during 20 degree weather. Did it at an idle, the oil must have been too thick. I might do a video on it sometime.
that aint a Capri...its a frigging Mussy with differnt badges Capris are made in Köln Germany or Dagnam England or Melbourne Australia, never looking like that
I don't particularly care what you think. I laughed the first time, now you show up here again a month later. Quit wasting my time with your useless opinions.
That's some great experience you've got there, my dad was more into BMW's and Benzes but I caught the American Pony car bug early. It's funny, I think the day I posted that response I had seen another 'cam break in' video of a Pantera just idling.... I hear ya on the lottery, but I'd probably build an all aluminum Cleveland! Also, I think your car needs the RS front spoiler to give it a meaner look. Always loved those Capri's!
LOL, looks like I have some car magazine mechanics giving me advice. The cam is a solid roller, which needs no break in time. The timing was pre-set as close as possible on the engine stand, hence the quick and easy initial firing. Just some fine adjustment needed. There is no thermostat, just a restriction orifice. Also an electric water pump, therefore no bleeding is needed for the cooling system.
Oil was drained the next day after the 20 minute warmup cycle that broke in the bronze distributor gear, started the initial ring seating process, and verified that the engine wasn't going to overheat or have any oil or water leaks after warmup.
I hope you're referring to Jackdaniels, I've been a mechanic now for 8 years and have been tinkering with these cars for over 14. If I had known it was a roller cam, I'd have known it didn't need the tappet break in cycle which is what I thought you meant by your 'obligatory break in cycle' :)
Don't get excited, I was just picking a little. As for me, My Dad started racing in 1961, I have been working hands on with cars, mainly Fords since I was 8 years old. So I have a little bit of experience as well. Have worked on everything from Boss 302's, to Cobra Jet Mustangs to Turbo 4 Cylinder Pinto's. Speaking of Cobra Jets, di you see that Calvert won the Winternationals earlier this year with a new Cobra Jet? If I win the lottery, you know what my first purchase will be??.......
no your suppost to break in the cam which is a different amount of time for every manufacturebase timing should be set before you turn the key and the cooling system should be blead when ever it get to operationg temp which sould be 5 mins or less also make sure to change the oil after shuting off check oil for metal and cut open the filter and inspect for metal particals
You're supposed to do the 20-minutes-at-2000rpm right away, on the initial start up. You set the timing and bleed the cooling system at this time, much easier as a two man operation. Loving the Capri, how does the little Windsor compare to the Cleveland?
The low end torque and consistency is much better. I am running about the same 1/8 mile times as I was with the other motor , only shifting at 6500, rather than 7200.
Not too bad, 6.60's in the 1/8 mile, which was exactly what my performance target was. Much quicker than that, and I'll have to do some more chassis upgrades to get it to be consistent enough to do any good bracket racing.
beautiful car. Ive always wanted a mustang/capri. I wanna save up and buy one. There was one i was interested in, same year as yours except its black.
too bad you didnt live near me! my friend put a shitload of $into his 85 RS eng. to try and out run my 66 GT350;he should have kept his money or spent more! though it is a fast car now;i bought it when he moved, after he couldnt even get a bid on it at an unreserved auction 12 yrs ago (with orig paint no less!) so i bought it cheap, just put 6K into paint and such (though it wasnt necessary)'bout 8 yrs ago i tried to sell for 3500 and couldnt even get that! orig paint. low 70k miles..go figure
nice steed...

@RedOct74LH - the Mercury Capri of that model was a rebadged and slightly restyled Ford Mustang. Not the Capri you're thinking of.

No such thing as an 82 RS Capri. RS's had the front air dam (84-86)
kryss119 4 years ago
Yes there is...both Turbo 4cyl and 5.0L. The first year for the RS was 1979...I've owned 12 fox body Capri's, my first was a '79
