@djtiestops3 absolutely not. Water dragons are NOT social reptiles. You can POSSIBLY house a male and a female together (never a male and male), in an enclosure that is ATLEAST 6 feet high, 8 feet wide, 3 feet deep.
Thank you for the advice! Are the waterDragons easy to clean because at the moment I have a Marsh turtle, cause every time I have to clean He's aquarium I have to empty out all the water and then fill it up with a bucket and also scrub He's tank ,it takes me about 2hours
@MrBosco777 well you saw in the video, it's pretty quick & easy to clean out a ;cat litter tray for water, anything larger would take longer and a built-in glass aquarium for their water would be a nightmare I reckon haha.
Great! thanks for the advice, your videos really help.I'm going to b & q in a few weeks and also duggan glass to see if they can cut 2 pieces of glass 4 me. And do you have water proofed walls or is that not needed.
@MrBosco777 Nah, the sterling OSB exterior board which i use is treated for outdoor weather in... well sterling i'd assume so it can handle the wet season haha! cheers.
The viv looks gr8,I would like to ask for some advice. I was going to buy a viv from a pet store which is quite expensive and only 150cm x 60 x 60 , then I saw your videos and was thinking of building my own viv.How much did it cost to build just the frame and the glass front of your viv
Hi, just thought I'd say how I got on. I decided to get a complete set up from a reptile specialist. I bought it today along with my new CWD, Enki! Bit surprised how much lighting and heating they gave but i guess they should know what they are doing?! Anyways, thanks for your help again.
Thanks for the fast response! Really helpful! I'm building a starter viv of 3ft wide by 2 ft high by 1 ft deep. I know its not large enough for when he is an adult so will be building a bigger one. I'm planning on getting a spot lamp and a uv tube (2ft long) for day time and then to run a ceramic lamp during the evening. do you think this will provide enough heat and light?
well, for such a small viv i'd imagine that would maybe be too much heat, a heat mat would suffice given the size of the viv as opposed to a ceramic, the spot lamp and UV tube sound ideal though.
Hi awesome video. found it really helpful. I had two water dragons when i was younger. but i am now in the process of building another viv as i want another dragon. could you tell me what light sources you have in there? and what wattages? also, do u use a heat mat? cheers! rachael
well, from left-right (in the video) lighting-wise there is:
125 watt t-rex sun-glow bulb (i think that is what it is called) it is a mercury vapour lamp anyway.
then there is a 42" 10.0 Exo-Terra UV tube. then the second basking spot is a regular 100 watt basking spot lamp.
nope, theres no heat mat, you may wish to use a ceramic heater for night-time heating as i have found a heat mat in a viv of that size is a large waste of money haha!
thanks for the reply on the swimming pool contact Eric,I am not sure how much damage either that the chlorine can have...I plan on getting him his own little baby pool so he will avoid future contact with the pool...maybe we can get some more responses on the pool info...
I live in NW Florida area in the states...I have a good question for you Eric...my water dragon got out today and jumped in the pool..well,he swam and when he went underwater,he didnt want to come up right away. I grabbed the pool net and scoop him off the bottom right away. My question is,how versatile are water dragons in a chlorinated swimming pool and how long can they stay underwater? He was motionless when I pulled him out,but I think he is okay..
i would imagine that prolonged contact with the chlorinated water would be really rather bad indeed.
it can effect the eyes and if consumed i should imagine the innards also - have never looked into this to be frank.
rather interesting.
they can stay underwater for around 15 mins up to a half hour if they wished to do so, as an escape mechanism from predators they tend to lie motionless under water, primarily for escape from birds etc.
I have fed my water dragon some harmless brown spiders, rolly pollys, and also some various beetles..what is your opinion about feeding mine these insects? With times so hard here, anything free is absolutely great!
feeding insects from the wild is great,m helps to provide a nice variety.
however...
they should be colelcgted from a nature reserve of the likes as on regular sites (parks etc) hey may have been subject to being sprayed with fedrtiliser or pesticide which can in turn have negative effects on the water dragon.
I agree with the post about the Petland info...they are about 35.99 at Petland and they house them with other lizards. I bought mine at the Flea Market from a lizard/snake guy for 35.00,but he has been a very healthy one. Petsmart would be a good choice, but they hardly ever have any to sell.
I would really like to know about meal worms...I have heard two opinions: dont feed them more than two or so at a time and then the video with the guy giving his dragon a bowl of them. I know mine eats around 6 or 7 at a time. Is this bad or should I just use them as a treat as the pet store has said. He likes them more than the crickets.
Careful, I used to spray my enclosure with not even 1/4 of the water you used a day using a pressure washer which completely turned water to mist.Myy water dragon developed a fungal infection since I think the branches held the water so much that it seeped onto him, although it may have been caused by something else.I now use a fogger, and a 3ft water bowel which gives great humidity.Nice job though, just a word of warning
lol in canadina money a baby chinese water dragon is 30 buck.. so like ya 15-25 in the us.. actually i paid 30 box for my young male adn 130 box for my 3 yearl old fat female
it depends where your from, the age of the dragon, whether it is in good or bad condition, what store you get it from, who exported it from asia, or if its CB the price is higher and it depends on the person who bred it as to what the price would be.

make sure there is enough heat, provide differnt types of meals like small pinkies or small goldfish, fruits and make sure water is always clean..work around these areas for a healthier CWD
hi i owned 2 water dragons, one was bitten by a cricket on the knee and he got a massive infection in the joint and i had to have him euthanised 2 months ago, so now i feed in a seperate enviroment to avoid this happening again. Excellent enclosure hun, it looks good!
any, it isnt particularly important to get them into a set routine as in the wild they may not eat for days on end and definateky wont eat at a set time.
Hi Erik, My dad is thinking of building a viv, would 4ft,4ft,2ft be ok for a male and female CWD at 8 month old ? Also nice viv there m8 and excellent vivs, gave me alot of info :)

hi i owned 2 water dragons, one was bitten by a cricket on the knee and he got a massive infection in the joint and i had to have him euthanised 2 months ago, so now i feed in a seperate enviroment to avoid this happening again. Excellent enclosure hun, it looks good!

sorry to hear that, its a shame to lose a pet. Thanks for the compliments!

ok m8, what time of day do you feed ur dragons aswell?
l8nnchris 3 years ago
any, it isnt particularly important to get them into a set routine as in the wild they may not eat for days on end and definateky wont eat at a set time.
