At once a history lesson and a look forward at what's to come for those who dare surf the Everest of big wave spots, "Ghost Wave" drops you in the middle of the North Pacific and leaves you hanging onto every word. A must-read for surfers and landlubbers alike!

i totally agree jaws is a super fast wave and so is what you can see at cortez banks. anyhow, the surfline guys reported it that way and i'm not inclined to question them. both are way crazy spots and neither of us would charge them. peace man

I don't think it moves way faster than Jaws. Hawaii is esentially exposed to the open ocean as well. Look at footage of Jaws. I've never seen a wave that moves quite like that...

@OsgoodFielding111 - so you are questioning the expertiese of the surfline crew, sean collins etc., who have surfed both breaks and studdied them in a scientific manner, and claim that its not faster because you looked at videos? your definitive reasoning is based on looking at footage online? really? @kinglaggg The expertise of Sean Collins, AMATEUR meteorologist and Billabong XXL and Surflie, who determine heights of waves by looking at pictures? Yes I do question them...My point was that the bathymetry of Hawaiian Islands drop off abrubtly offshore much like the Cortes Bank and yes, watching footage of jaws on a 20ft@20sec swell provides a visual que on the waves speed...

Growing up in Minnesota, the closest I ever got to the ocean was watching the beach movies with Annette Funicello's and listening to my older sisters Beach Boys records. I grow up fascinated with the way these guys could conquer the waves. I never moved to the beach and I never learned how to surf, but I still find it fascinating. All this to say, watching the surfers conquer the waves of Cortes Banks is like watching my first surfing movie when I was a mere 8 years old.
