Firstly, when anyone says that Catholics worship Mary either viciously lies, or misrepresents Catholicism. Mary is not a Goddess at all but Mother of God (Θεοτόκος - Theotókos). She cannot do anything without Jesus nor is the object of worship in and of itself. It is because she was (and still is) the closest person to Jesus-before and after his death-that we hold her in the highest esteem. I went to catholic school, did all that i can but I was never fully happy or satisfied. I was missing something, there was clearly a void. I went crazy during college. Let's say a man falls into a hole and Christ pulls him out, he is said to have been saved by Christ, but if a woman is about to fall into a hole and Christ stops her from ever falling in, she is said to have been saved by Christ. Mary had Jesus as her Savior. She was saved but in a greater way than us. So the point, Mary was sinless becuase God prevented her from detracting sin, but she was still saved by Christ

We have a deep respect for the mother of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ as any good Christian should. In the Catholic church, we believe that only Jesus is the Way, not Mary. Mary was the most obedient and pious person whoever walked the face of the earth (except Christ).

I would disagree-and if an alternative interpretation is your assertion-exactly what passages are you reffering to? What passages do you interpret as encouraging worship to Mary or anybody else for that matter?

@carriebrk Do you know how many lost passages there are, how many passages have been removed and changed? The Bible today is not like what it used to be. And if you don't believe that, you better go do some research. Humans have been debating over this stuff since its creation and it really is a joke.

Its time to stop being so Narrowminded and learning to put religion aside and working on what is really important... Faith, having a relationship with God. Thats what all of us Christians have in common.. I communicate with God through my heart. I don't need religion finatics telling me whats right and whats wrong. They ruined it in the first place.

@carriebrk Whoever told you that Catholics worship Mary or anybody else was VERY wrong. It upsets me that people are too stubborn to realize there is not passage that encourages worship to Mary in the Catholic Bible. I have grown up a Catholic and I have never once seen such a distraught thing. I'm sure there are some people that do in some churches, but the majority would never think of such a thing. You have obviously never been to a Catholic service

@carriebrk Catholics pray that Mary as well as other angels would pray for us. Never would we think that Mary is going to answer our prayers. We do give respect to her, but do not worship her. God would not be very happy with that. What bad is it to ask for a little help in prayer? Would God be so cruel to punish someone for praying for peace and asking others to join in prayer, in person or spirit? And if Catholics are wrong, who gives a shit. What do you care. It's none of your business.

I don't care what other people say about what I think. I love Jesus just as much as you do and he would never be mad at me for trying to be a good person by doing what I feel is right. @carriebrk I believe in the Bible very much. I don't take all of the readings literally. And I don't know the Bible front to back. I believe that it has been tainted and changed somewhat by man since its creation. Alot of which was from the Catholics before churches broke away. Which interpretation is correct? Why are there so many passages taken out? It doesnt matter, all that matters is faith.

Watch the video about other guises or saints. Fact however is these saints are used , not as gods, but as mediums in a hiarchy. one would be closer to asuming they worshiped the dead. She is merely held up as the prime example. Why don't you protest the praying to the saints? I was and still am surprised when a catholic releative says she was praying to st. Jude, even though I know that saints have always been a basic difference between catholicism and other forms of christianity.

@1954phyllis How do you know they are not helped by veneration of Mary? She points the way to Jesus in every essence of her being; she must have been pre-ordained by God, was certainly reverred by Jesus and the early church; was prophesied, and is central to the Bible story; she is the new Eve who does God's will as opposed to rejecting it. From a Christological and Theological point of view as well as a human one she is entirely necessary

@1954phyllis It is just an interpretation of where Mary is in the whole story of Jesus and the Bible, does she get no place at all in your opinion? If so Gabriel was wasting his time; even John the Baptist was wasting his time and particularly his mother Elizabeth, who was filled with the Holy Spirit and exclaimed to Mary that she was blessed among women and blessed was the fruit of her womb. So here we have reference to her position before Jesus was born and before Christianity existed

@no1hoopsman Mary was very blest by God. I have the utmost respect for her but I dont worship her or pray to her. Jesus is the one that I love and worship. He suffered such agony like no other man has. He is the one that gave HIs life a ransom for many. Mary was so blessed by God that He gave her the privilege of being the mother of the precious Lamb of God. I love Mary for being such a good mother to the Son of God.

@1954phyllis And the agonies she must have gone through as well; she was at the foot of the cross when the apostles bugered off. And love for a person can be expressed in many ways; veneration and adoration for example. My understanding is that the Catholic church has never advocated Mary instead of or in front of Jesus; he is the central part of the mass and of the church

It is a waste of their time to confess their sins to a priest when they have an advocate with the Father, Christ Jesus. He is the only one that loved them enough to die for their sins and He is God the Son. Mary shouldnt be prayed to at all since it is a waste of time. What is a rosary. Yes I believe in miracles.

@1954phyllis Well I know and see plenty of people who benefit from the rosary, from reconciliation. In modern terms we would be told to go to a psychiatrist to tell them of our faults, failing and concerns, and the sacraments are well referred to in the Bible. This institution has been around for thousands of years; good people and ordianry have been involved in giving their life for god and the church; in study and prayer. If you don't agree that's fine, peace be with you

I know that you have your beliefs and I am not wanting to offend you but Jesus will help you Himself to get closer to Him. To tell you the truth I dont even know what the rosary is. Just remember please that no one makes it to heaven by his or her good works.
