Hmm, short sleeved shirts on motorcycles? Must cause a bit of a rash if they ever came off. And as an ex-biker I should know. I always wore either denims in hot weather or leathers in the cold.
This was the second season CHiPs theme song .. very upbeat ... the first season was jazzed up with the trumpet in place of the violins as you can hear. I like both versions!!
Does anyone have Estradas number? I want to call and give him $5000 down via 800 number on the Mississippi real estate paradise of my dreams, sight unseen and totally based on his promises and integrity as a CHP officer.
This show was the Ultimate when I was a teenager.. decent, no nudity, no profanity, no off color humor. A great show your kids could watch without you having to monitor the channels.
Yea, I must admit as a pre-teen in the mid 70s I thought that these guys were the coolest ever, I was 8 or 9 years old then. I never knew how corrupt or trigger happy, and or how many were rednecks in the real CHIPS highway police force. Still, these guys and SWAT were my childhood idols.
Nah The Best Part Is From 0:15 to 0:19...What Is That Shit, Like Some Kind Of Funky Ass Organ...And There It Goes Again At The End. Always Been Captivated By That Sound. Ahh...The 70's, When Shit Was So Damn Musical.
yep. Especially the 405 freeway. And there's that saying about the 405. It takes you 4 or 5 hours to get home. And the 91 freeway takes you 91 minutes.
I knew a guy that tried to get hired with the CHP and during his interview they asked him what he knows about the CHP, and his answer was "Well, you guys had an awesome show in the late 70's."
I watched this daily after the Price is Right was over at 11am when I was a kid and home on summer vaction.
We were not rich so my folks did not ship me off to summer camp. This was maybe 1986-1988 or somewhere in there. The show seemed very dated even back then but I LOVED it.
At the time I thought the women on the show were ugly but boy was I wrong...heavy makeup, big hair, and big...uh...they were babes!
CHiPs was another fine crime drama TV show from the 1970's. I believe this was the TV show that got Eric Estrada started with his career as an actor and an entertainer. It made him very famous.
My favorite intro of all times. I remember bein 4 or 5 and I loved it. My parents told me that I only talked about "Chip's song".... It was a long time ago.
Actually, the original "jazzy" version was used only in the first year (1977-78). If I remember right, the first episode of the second season had a "roller disco" theme and they changed the theme music to match it...
Fuck the pigs haha

Didn't they film this on a new SoCal freeway that wasn't open yet? If they tried to film this today, they'd be going 10 MPH the whole time
veryslyfox 5 months ago
@veryslyfox look at some of their special fx during chases.. most of them ARE at 10mph.. they knew something we didn't

I really miss CHiPs! This is when cop shows were fun instead of being injected with hype like they are now. I'll trade in CSI for CHiPs any day!!

Anyone know the name of the freeway towards the end of the intro?
I'm thinking the 110 since it looks like downtown L.A.
PhysStud2006 3 years ago 2
Yes the ending is the SB 110, just before the Wilshire exit in downtown.
As for the begining scene, it was shot in glendale, on the SB 2 freeway between Verdugo RD and Mountain ST exits
