  • thank you ver much, you are a real OSTAD, because you know how to feel the ney!

  • this is armenian, it is called duduk, (the first part) :)

  • @alecjan21

no, it is not Armenian,Armenians do have this but it is an ancient ethnic Eranian instrument, we even use the word for "straw". and plus "duduk" sounds pretty Turkish to me, perhaps it was passed to Armenia by Turks, but hey we all share many things, kamanche, do-hol, qunun (which isn't Eranian) but with variants

  • çok güzel!!

  • @sonicBlunt

actually the ney is not persian arab or turkish in its origin. it is the oldest instrument still in common use today and its earliest record of use was in ancient egypt during the time of the pharaohs, who were not arabs, turk or persian.

the ney belongs to all of us

  • this guy play awsome

  • great job!

  • Respect !!

  • i'm rlly proud of you ,loved it,its very difficult instrument

    iranian from belgium

    thanku

  • Amazing, Relaxing.

  • WELL DONE. VERY GOOD,

  • İts so beautiful but, its sound is really similar to turkish ney,

can any anyone tell me what is the difference?

  • They are really played differently. Mouth positioning is different. Also there are more varieties of Persian Ney.

  • This one I guess the F Ney, the tallest and harderst to play. He does an excellent job really.

  • A good player can get three totally different ranges of tunes using different mouth gestures. You can judge how virtuous a player is by checking how quickly and consistently he can switch to different tunes.

  • thanx a lot

  • This is magnificent! The ney is perhaps one of the most difficult wind instruments, and you play it so well. Thanks for sharing

  • Very well done! Looks like it is not easy at all to play! Thanks for your music!

  • Thanks for the insightful comment.

  • @persianney : It takes dedication to play any musical instrument - much respect to taking up the Persian Ney. It's a beautiful instrument.

  • don't hate man. this man is not even persian and he is playing an ethnic persian instrument that takes a lot of dedication to play. i have lots of respect for this man because he is the one that has tutorial on Ney even tho he is not Persian. god bless him.

  • @30iavash this musition is persian from south iran(bushehr).

  • Very beautiful =) sounds great. This bass Ney really has a deep and "mystical" sound to it. I love it.

Does anyone know if there is a clarinet that can produce a similar sound??? Which one would it be? An A-clarinet or Bb-clarinet?

  • Lowest note is F>

  • why is this fake?

  • hi my name is mohammad ali, sence i lisoning you'r ney i got crazy, i just want listen and listen. anyway where can buy ney or am i able to order ti

  • You find Ney in Iran. How to order it, I dont know. Good luck !

  • go on ebay

  • good job, nice video

  • good feeling,nice shushtari,

though not professional, not fake at all.

Low ney are very hard to play. Barikallah

  • shaza

  • I love persian ney, it´s very different from Arabic/Kurdish/Turkish,The air goes between the tooth not like others with lips,Gudley Instrument Sounds like heaven.Gotta Love it.

  • you could be right, this ney sounds slightly different

  • i love the sound.. i was thinking how close it sounds to a duduk.. ofcourse the sound is not the same but still in a way it does kinda sound a bit like duduk sound.. groetjes....

    take care

    Jay

  • oh shut up you foolish child, if you were a ney player you would know about Kees Van Den Doel.

    Great sounds!

  • haya . i am ney player

    excellent . its very nice

  • Van Ney Khane Doel Tala

    (hamshari bande)

  • What does that mean? Sorry I've been to busy learning ney to learn farsi...

  • It means Van 'The Golden Ney Player' Doel.

What type of ney is that you are playin? I have an F# ney, I'm buying a new one soon, this one sounds very nice and low

  • This one is F> (F sori).

  • well,, it is good not bad he looks funny sorry.. but sill Ostad Hassan and Mohammed Muzzavi are the best,,, they are the masters of Ney.

  • Music is an international language that communicates with one's soal. Let's hope to keep alive these traditional treasure in our hearts and our soal as these are important parts of our identity and who we are...

  • its the artists prefference to choose the size ,lenght etc of the ney.what size do you fit in your mouth

  • Music has no borders every talented person can enjoy and play the instrument they like, in his case if he is not middle eastern!! I give him a standing ovation for learning an ancient instrument that is strange to the western music. Bravo it is very nice

  • it looks so funy im sorry he looks so foreign to the instrument but yet it sounds right, bizar

  • you are so right

  • me 3

  • where do i place my tongue ?

  • its not the tongue. its the tooth that make the sound and how its located between upper lip and the tooth.

  • Tooth has no role in the sound production.

    There are toothless ney players.

  • I believe the source of sound is the vortex shedding from the pipe edge. One may look up tip vortex to see visualizations of this.

  • Professional players may ask a dentist to open the gap between their two front teeth. Just enought to have a thin sheet of plastic (usually medical radiograph films like the one in this video) to fit through the gap

  • It helps to have a small space between your front teeth to anchor the ney. One person I know had crowns put on his front teeth to create a space for the ney.

  • I've tried practicing on my pvc ney for some weeks and almost made a sound. This video has a good close up and gives me a better idea of the mouth positions and er... that island of similar topics.

  • i just bought one for myself when i was in turkiye....cant make any sound yet

  • ney means "straw" in farsi. it is one of the 5 persian instruments founded and developed in ancient persia. all other versions are derivatives and modifications.

  • how can any one say that ney is not originaly persian? the word ney is a persian word, not an arabic or turkish word and it is used every where

  • please please don´t make the discaution about who is who !take it only as a respect for all of the people who are playing this very old instrument !it is not important which cultur is startet the instrument !listen what is the intrument says: it goes very in the heard if everybody listen this insturment !and it speaks about peache and emotions !

  • if anyone says it arabic style, u can imply that it is also persian because the persians founded their culture and civilization. if anyone says otherwise, just look in the history books. who existed in 7000 bc? thank you :)

  • is not arabic style this is an old Indo-Iranian style

  • indeed ney is an ancient persian not (turkish not arabic) instrument!

  • @DconanD "Study history" ? It's from Iranian verb "navaayidan"/"navaakhtan". Why not look up what it means ? you need education.

  • good

  • holland

  • where's this guy from, by the way ?

  • actually he's playing shushtari in homayoon but the LAHN is arabic. sepecially when he's holding the LA note. just have a listen to Hejaz in Arabic to make sure.
