I'm sorry, moviepreviewcritic, but I have to disagree with you on this one. It's unworthy for anyone, even the fans. I can't see any fan of Dragonball wanting to see this piece of shit.
I have to agree with the idea that this movie is pretty much targeting the cool teen audience, mainly like the Harry Potter or Twilight adaptations. Most teens these days, seem to like things with a somewhat dark, and not all too innocent, which of course, does not fit the mold of the original show.
However, one justification this has for making every character a teen is that its plotpoint seems focused around the King Piccolo and/or Piccolo Jr. Saga, where the characters were at that age.

it was a good review since he based it on the preview and not the actual film, his briefing of the db past was a bit off, but what he said covered what happend in the movie, the movie was horrible, they tried to hard to make it modern, as well as making them older. You're usually uncanny, but I think you didn't arrive at the logical conclusion until the very end and maybe not even fully at that point. They gave whoever-it-is-who-wrote this three or four bullet points, a few names, and the title of the movie and let him have at it. The title, evolution, is to clue us into the fact that this is not going to be a traditional Dragonball...

As much as I liked Dragon Ball Z, this movie is something I rather would forget, even if it's timeline is a bit different (like most time inconsistent DBZ animated movies), way too drastic for fans who are very loyal to the Manga and Anime. Hell even the chinese movie take on the Dragon Ball saga was more faithful even though it was filmed either in the late 70s or early 80s, even though part of the set was going to be reused years later to do MK: Annihilation. at 4:57, CHI CHI IS NOT BULMA! The girl at the top is Chi Chi, Goku's wife. The girl at the bottom is Bulma, a friend of goku's, but definitely not his love interest. YOU GOT IT WRONG MOVIE PREVIEW CRITIC!! No offense.
the only movie i liked from the director of the dragonball evolution was the one with jet le, i never really liked luke cage from the comics, (because he had retarded ethics a hero for hire? the point of a hero is not to be a seeker of fame but doing it to protect and save people) kinda of the same way i feel about the fantastic four, for a black superhero movie i would rather see spawn (well hes more of an anti-hero), black panther, a storm spin off, or a war machine spin off.

Well, it's pretty obvious you don't know much about Dragon Ball, since you mixed up Bulma and Chichi (Bulma is the one with the blue hair and is the brains of the group, at best relying on a gun in a fight). The sad thing is, though, pretty much everything aside from the most basic elements (names and superpowers, mostly) are thrown out, so your assessment is still spot on. There is really nothing similar between Dragonball and Dragonball Evolution.
Actually, Goku looked about like he did at the beginning of the series at the Piccolo fight. He was fifteen, but he didn't have any growth spurt until three years afterward when he fought Piccolo Jr.
I read the manga when I was a kid (never watched the anime) and this was a terrible, lazy adapation. It's the "Streetfighter movie" of our generation.

In the series it takes about 3 episodes of powering up 2 more episodes of talking shit untill finally the fight episode happens than someone dies and has to be wished back with the dragonballs like krillin and the weaker characters plus they have meaningless character intermissions that are irritating as hell its hillarious really.

As someone who knows the entire story of Dragonball, I have to say it's really horrible what they've done. The main thing that concerns me is how Piccolo's character is totally messed up. It's like they've tried to merge the characters of King Piccolo, Piccolo Jr. and Kami into one.
vegeta was never introduced in Dragonball....he came in Dragonball Z after Goku defeated his brother in the beginning of the series. Goku, Chi Chi, Master Roshi, Bulma, Krillin, and Yamcha were the main characters in the TV series. Lord Piccalo was of course the villain.
don't judge a movie about dragonball if you don't know shit because you can't judge characters in the movie if you don't know the back story and please stop getting chi and bulma mixed up

Good review... I agree that the Dragon Ball series was not suppose to be as dark as they portrayed it in the film. But my biggest problem with the movie was the fact that Goku played by Justin Chatwin turned into his ape form without the moon and by a solar eclipse. That basically rules out Dragonball GT from being accurate even if they do decide to go that far. I mean how often is a solar eclipse going to happen? It would also have been nice if they would have introduced Krillin and Tien.

Sorry but any dragonball fans are really waiting for Fox to either do a revamp or a take a hike with this one. Dragonball is not supposed to be realistic, serious or even hip because the whole thing has that style. Even the origins of the dragonballs in this movie is bullshit let alone the fact that they have mixed up the villains. Mai is a ninja working for emperor Pilaf and Roshi lives on an island with a friggin talking turtle. They even talk about airbending. This is not Avatar!!!!

You're usually uncanny, but I think you didn't arrive at the logical conclusion until the very end and maybe not even fully at that point. They gave whoever-it-is-who-wrote this three or four bullet points, a few names, and the title of the movie and let him have at it. The title, evolution, is to clue us into the fact that this is not going to be a traditional Dragonball...
..and honestly I didn't know this exist until you reviewed it. Not really a fan.

As much as I liked Dragon Ball Z, this movie is something I rather would forget, even if it's timeline is a bit different (like most time inconsistent DBZ animated movies), way too drastic for fans who are very loyal to the Manga and Anime. Hell even the chinese movie take on the Dragon Ball saga was more faithful even though it was filmed either in the late 70s or early 80s, even though part of the set was going to be reused years later to do MK: Annihilation. Good Review 2 thumbs up MPC.

A couple years back (7years) when me and my friends were still in high school we were kinda talking about a if live action DBZ where to take place, were potential actors where extremely right at the time.
Jet Li (Picollo - Hell the only DB villain we know that made Goku scream like a B-, in the 23rd Tournament), Jackie Chan and Shao Yun Fat (Master Roshi) and Chuck Norris (Hercule - He's gotta have a part or he'll round house kick you in the head) XD

the only movie i liked from the director of the dragonball evolution was the one with jet le, i never really liked luke cage from the comics, (because he had retarded ethics a hero for hire? the point of a hero is not to be a seeker of fame but doing it to protect and save people) kinda of the same way i feel about the fantastic four, for a black superhero movie i would rather see spawn (well hes more of an anti-hero), black panther, a storm spin off, or a war machine spin off.

To be honest, this is the best review so far on this so called Dragonball movie.
Some of you are judging because the reviewer doesnt know anything about dragonball, I actually think its good because he can give is honest opinion about the "movie" and not on the entire background of dragonball and where they went wrong. (which we all know they did)
But even so, he says its good and bad, and added his comments on the "movie".
All and all, very good review...why u should/shouldnt watch it.

Even though you got a few things wrong, this review is proof that even the casual movie-goer would realize how much this movie sucks without even knowing the REAL story! You hit the nail right on the head, why make them all teenagers? Why did they create their own storyline for the movie when the series is so goddamn long that it has ENDLESS source material for plots? And what the hell was with the romance? The director and writer REALLY DID NOT GET this series AT ALL and it showed painfully.

I think they are trying so hard to make this into a popular teen movie, by takinging it out of its origainal context andrepackaging into a hgh school love story (as seen in the comercials)
Its almost like they are trying to make it seem like dragonball but add the stupid igh school musical virus into the storyline.
so I think this movie is going to bomb
also if they are going to make a Dragonball movie. at least do it with japanese actors like jet lee and dont doa high school love story

Well, it's pretty obvious you don't know much about Dragon Ball, since you mixed up Bulma and Chichi (Bulma is the one with the blue hair and is the brains of the group, at best relying on a gun in a fight). The sad thing is, though, pretty much everything aside from the most basic elements (names and superpowers, mostly) are thrown out, so your assessment is still spot on. There is really nothing similar between Dragonball and Dragonball Evolution.

Actually, Goku looked about like he did at the beginning of the series at the Piccolo fight. He was fifteen, but he didn't have any growth spurt until three years afterward when he fought Piccolo Jr.

Moviepreviewcritic i havn,t seen the movie yet but when you made the comment about the fight scenes i couldn,t help but laugh out loud because its soo true. In the series it takes about 3 episodes of powering up 2 more episodes of talking shit untill finally the fight episode happens than someone dies and has to be wished back with the dragonballs like krillin and the weaker characters plus they have meaningless character intermissions that are irritating as hell its hillarious really.

ok one thing with the name "dragon ball evolution" was actually a mistake if you read about it on wikipedia.the evolution was not supposed to be on there be they decided to keep it anyway.now bout the movie itself, if you remember goku had been a or maybe atleast an early adult before dbz and ive heard there is a 3 part series now my prediction is dbz next then GT and hopefully the actors will get better or get new ones.but ending this it did suck but you can agree there a few good parts.

I have to agree with this guy. It's really not wise to comment on the story if you haven't read the manga or watched the original Dragonball series.
As someone who knows the entire story of Dragonball, I have to say it's really horrible what they've done. The main thing that concerns me is how Piccolo's character is totally messed up. It's like they've tried to merge the characters of King Piccolo, Piccolo Jr. and Kami into one.

vegeta was never introduced in Dragonball....he came in Dragonball Z after Goku defeated his brother in the beginning of the series. Goku, Chi Chi, Master Roshi, Bulma, Krillin, and Yamcha were the main characters in the TV series. Lord Piccalo was of course the villain.

Good review... I agree that the Dragon Ball series was not suppose to be as dark as they portrayed it in the film. But my biggest problem with the movie was the fact that Goku played by Justin Chatwin turned into his ape form without the moon and by a solar eclipse. That basically rules out Dragonball GT from being accurate even if they do decide to go that far. I mean how often is a solar eclipse going to happen? It would also have been nice if they would have introduced Krillin and Tien.
