Please , please answer to my question: I want to buy the perception 820 because that's amazing , but if i buy the 220 (especialy for the vocals) the quality will be also great ??!
@FanMusicOf in theory, the 820 is a condenser tube microphone. so, the sound reception and quality will be better than a simple condenser, but, all will depend in your mic preamp, maybe if your preamp is really good, your probably only need the 220.
- For vocals : A good condenser mic, like the akg perception 820, buy a nice one, so you wont need a better one
- A usb of firewire interface: you can buy a 8 ins interface, i recommend a firewire, so you can record in high quality, remember, you can record 8 inputs at same time, i recommend a Presonus firestudio project, this interface have good mic preamps, so you wont need extra mic preamps
Studio monitors: for high sound fidelity, this speakers are for monitoring your sound, so, i recommend a m audio bx5a, is a good pair
a DAW (digital audio workstation): there are many of these softwares, but, i have experienced the presonus studio one, there are 3 versions, artist, studio and professional, i personally recommend this, because is very easy to use, and have lot of great options and plenty of effects
Plug ins: if your songs gonna use drums, strings, syths, using real instruments sometimes is to much expensive, so you can use the plug ins, or vsti, these are digital instruments, sequensers and effects using to create and imporve signals, there are some like, Guitar Rig 5, Waves GTR, Cakewalk session drummer, and millions more effects, like reverbs, echos, delays, mic pres, vocal effects, lots of em, there are, INSTRUMENTS and EFFECTS
@FanMusicOf the INSTRUMENTS are controlled via midi sequences, you will need a controller like a keyboard, the M audio keyrig 49, is a good piece for work, this will allow you a live control among your midi squences, there a lots of controllers out there, jsut, find the one you need, THE EFFECTS, this only are filters for signals, depending in what the filter is, will be the result of the signal... keep this in mind, all of the vsti are used in the DAW.
@FanMusicOf so, if you like a little interface, get in the presonus web site, there are lots of em, i recommend you presonus, for the mic preamps, are good, so, you will need and acoustic guitar maybe, and a electric too.. and a bass if you want. but, your signal will always go to your interface.
@TrochezCovers Well.. i don't if you realize but you help me A LOT.. thank you so much for all the names .. for all ...( just ask).. Me i just want simple, i know how to play piano and guitar i just want a microphone, a console digital and the amps(with many EFFECTS) i don't want to have all this things (drums.. this things.. later) well.. i'd like to have the REALLY basic ! So what do you subject of cool for all i need ? And Will it be connected to a computer to recording? (:
@TrochezCovers And i don't know at all what i must connect with for the amps.. forthe microphone.. :L ? thanks you again for all without i would never create my studio .. ;p
@FanMusicOf ok i will give you a list. but remember that you have to expend money even if it gonna be a small studio, cuz you always need and want a standard quality.
- m-audio fast track. there are of 2, 4 ans 8 in, you choose which you want.
- m-audio bx5a monitors
- DAW: the fast track includes a copy of protools, so you wont need extra money for this
- m audio keyrig for midi controller
- the plug ins, protools includes lots of em, including amps, effects intruments and more
and a Auralex Mudguard for keep you vocals clean if needed
the tip in building a studio is not hesitate in buying things, grab some money, a expend it in good things, if you buy a cheap equipment, maybe dont give good results, and you will regret it. so, make choices man :D
@TrochezCovers :O Thank you thank you you're really a nice person , so if i understood i only need this things for a "simple studio"? And they're connect to the computer? :))
@FanMusicOf yes, they do, the m audio interface connects via usb to you pc, and the keygig too.. the m audio monitors connects to your interface via trs analog cable, i mean, normal audio 1/4" cable :D so, plug your equipment, and ready to go :D.
@TrochezCovers i'll work on this and of course for the money it's expensive lol but when i'll have i'll send u a coment, and i know i say that ALL THE TIME but thank you so much :'))
@TrochezCovers should i buy this if i buy the perception 420 :Behringer-Xenyx-1202-AND M-Audio Keyrig 49 is only for create some sounds or also for recording with the microphone??
@FanMusicOf ok, is not a bad deal, but, the xenyx 1202 can only record stereo via the usb, not multitrack, if you record stereo you miss some fidelity in the audio, try to look for a interface, is not merely needed a mixer :D
normally usb mics work on Ubuntu as well if they use standard USB protocol. For Ubuntu this would not require drivers, it either works or it doens't. Make a deal with your local store to try it out. I work with Ubuntu professionally (Reaper.fm) and stable.
@ThePicazzoMc oh i'm no expert :) i'm just a homerecorder as every other one is aswell :) its just my feeling.. i mean you can try it and it might sound awsome but to be really shure that it sounds good for rap vox i think you should go with a solution that's safer ..
@ThePicazzoMc I think it might even be too good ;) don't get me wrong but if you can hear all the different sounds whatsoever made by the artist it might seem too analytic in the mix..
I have the AKG 220,but i cant figure out crap about it, Im new... and if you know anything, please let me know. i got a Voco Pro, it wont work on it because it doesnt have power phantom, mmkay then I got a amp that does, THE QUALITY SUCKS! @zany4rhymes It is a matter of taste. The C 414s are a standard in the studio since the 1980s and used on many number one hits. The C 214 is a cost-friendly alternative with cardioid pattern only. The P 820 Tube is a great sounding tube microphone which adds some natural harmonics to you voice. All three microphones sound great, therefore, I would compare them with your own voice and find out with sounds best.
hey can u help me pleas?i cant get my akg 220 to work ,i have a akg220 and hig quality cabel and audiobox usp ,but i dont gnow how to set it up ?....peals help
@onfire4000 For vocals and electric guitar we recommed the 820 Tube or the 220. For acoustics guitar the 170 does a great job. You can also combine it with the 820 Tube or the 220. Sounds great :-)
Could an AKG Perception 220 sounds good to mic my guitar ampflier ? I woud like to use an other mic in addition of my Shure SM57 in order to catch a more "global" sound
@JocasseeFender Oh, thanks......But I already bought it and it works flawlessly ! So , no problem at all! Thanks a lot though you took time to response, I appreciate it :))
He TomStu, i am about to buy a akg microphone but i am in doubt between the 210 and the 220. The difference in price is pretty big but can you also hear that difference in the quality? I'm going to use it for vocals, guitar and violin.
@jayrobxxx The Perception 120 mic is a good choice for vocals. In general, the Perception models P 220, P 420 and P 820 Tube sound even better due to large diaphragm capsules, lower noise and tube electronics(on the P 820 Tube only)
The Perception USB is a good choice due to the easy installation and the USB interface. It sounds very transparent and I definitely would recomment it for recording vocals at home.
@TheDanielearwood Yes, the 420 is a great choice but the Perception 820 Tube sounds even better due to its tube electronics. The add that "magic" tube sound quality to any instrument.
@ArsiekDHOL Usually you start in the middle and listen. If the sound is too bright move the mic away from the center. If the sound is too dull move the mic closer to the edge.
@Kevinkoch2443 There are so many ways. You have to try and listen. Let's start in the position like in the video, listen, and the move the microphone, listen, move the mic,.... and so on.
@hellgirl1512 The 220 is a great microphone but we wanted to show the whole range of microphones. Moreover, the 820 Tube adds rich harmonics to the voice due to its tube electronics.
@KevinRachidDick I have the 120, and it's damn good, but so is the 220, if you're willing to spend a few extra go with the 220 I guess. You can find great deals online for them.
Ok, I have a few things to say. I have the 200 series, and it's nice and all, but when I talk into it, it's a lot more clearer than it records, it's that normal for all mics? Also, I don't even have up too loud but when I sing into it, it scratches really easy like I'm screaming into it, what could that be? Could that be based on how I have it hooked up, wires, the mic itself, where the mic is cornered in my closet, etc... Can you give me some advice?
Is it a good choice to get a P2 for my band in order to double as a kick mic and a bass mic? In other words would the aluminium cone I'm using come out warm and bright as i hear it in the track through the P2? I have so far used an sm57 and an sm58 Beta and both record a very defined sound but I have to blend DI in for the lower frequencies and was thinking that maybe the P2 would do that on its own....
Hello I want to get a condenser microphone from AKG, but I don't know which one to buy. I'm female, and I want a condenser mic to record lead vocals only. I just want the sound and everything to be great. Please help..
@ssarahh15 The best choice in this range would be a perception 820 Tube due to its great sounding capsule and the tube electronics which add rich harmonics to your voice.
@PhilHotzProductions The C 414 would do a wonderful job on any instrument! It is a professional tool wich can be found in any mid- to large-sized studio around the world.
Nice and Funky, Jazzy, i love it, i was litle fear about the perception series, but with a good mixing desk and preamp it's sound good, is it build in Austria like the other's microphone ?
@Meteotrance The entire Perception line has been designed and engineered by AKG in Vienna, Austria. The microphones are manufactured in China under strict quality control by AKG. This is how we can offer our microphone technologies and exceptional build quality at very attractive prices. All our premium products like the famous C 414, C 12 VR, C 451 B, K 702s and so on are handcrafted in Vienna.
@llemotivell I would prefer the P 220 because it is a proven large diaphragm microphone with very good sound quality. It delivers a full and clear sound which is great for lead vocals and miking guitar amps. In addition, the signal-to-noise ratio is higher.
@dukkcess Yes, the P 170 is a good choice because it is a small diaphragm mic designed for instruments and drums. Some engineers prefer large diaphragm microphones like the P 420 or P 220. It is up to you. In my opinion the small diaphragm mic sounds more precise and the large diaphragm mic sounds fuller.
For vocals the P 420 works perfect. Almost all sound engineers are using the cardioid pickup pattern for recording lead vocals because it is a directional pickup pattern which attenuates ambient noise and reflections from the ceiling and the walls.
@Rick0145 Sure. The Perception 120 USB was developed to provide a simple recording solution with a high quality sound. It's perfect for recording voice, guitars oder oder instruments as well as recording rehearsals and so on.
Hey AKG. I currently own the p200. I do a lot of recordings that have latin trumpets and sax's. I want to upgrade, but what mic(s) would you recommend me for this app. (vocals, latin trumpets and sax's) If any question, I'll be gladly to answer to them!
The P 120 has mid-sized capsule for a transparent and clear sound. They are a good choice for vocals. For recording lead vocals we recommend large diaphragm mics like the P 220, P 420 or the P 820 Tube. They deliver an upright, warm and clear sound which is even better that the P 120. In addition, they offer true condenser technology, low noise electronics and come complete with a spider-type shock mount which eliminates mechanical vibrations.
The AKG Perception 220 shows a true condenser large diaphragm capsule which is a great choice for vocals. It delivers a warm, clear and transparent sound that works excellent for lead vocals but also a wide range of other applications like stringed instruments, drums, brass or ambience miking. Perception does it all ;-)
Thanks for your interest in our products. The Perception 820 Tube is a very versatile tube mic. It can handle high sound pressure levels which occur on loud instruments e.g. close-miking of guitar amps and drums. Thanks to its special tube circuit it delivers rich and smooth sound. If you prefer a more neutral sound, the integrated 20 dB attenuation pad can be activated easily.
is akg perception p420 good for vocal recording? and is there a bether mic for similar price that is great for vocals recording? thank you! :)

@ArsiekDHOL try and listen! ;-)
scarletpb 1 year ago
@ArsiekDHOL Usually you start in the middle and listen. If the sound is too bright move the mic away from the center. If the sound is too dull move the mic closer to the edge.

What I'm getting from this video is how important the room acoustics, preamps and outboard gear are. You can't get this sound with prosumer gear.

I have one question, dumb one,but the thing is: I Have the 820 Tube,do i still need to use the phantom power of my interface?
pollin 1 year ago
@pollin No phantom powering is required on the 820 Tube due to its remote contol unit which powers the mic.

Hi, why didn;t you use 220 in this video for vocal record? Is the 820 better?
hellgirl1512 1 year ago
@hellgirl1512 The 220 is a great microphone but we wanted to show the whole range of microphones. Moreover, the 820 Tube adds rich harmonics to the voice due to its tube electronics.

Hey I just wanna know wich mic would be better for rapping... the p120 or the 220 ?
KevinRachidDick 1 year ago
@KevinRachidDick I have the 120, and it's damn good, but so is the 220, if you're willing to spend a few extra go with the 220 I guess. You can find great deals online for them.

@KevinRachidDick I would use the 220 due to its large diaphram capsule. It sound great.

extremely nice! What are you plugging those mics into? Would these be okay with a cheap usb interface?

@DoubleEdgedSword12 It would be ok but a better quality preamp helps! We used a Vintech Audio 473 to a RME Soundcard.

CastleRecordz 1 year ago
@CastleRecordz If you scream really loud you should use the attenuation switch.

Is it a good choice to get a P2 for my band in order to double as a kick mic and a bass mic? In other words would the aluminium cone I'm using come out warm and bright as i hear it in the track through the P2? I have so far used an sm57 and an sm58 Beta and both record a very defined sound but I have to blend DI in for the lower frequencies and was thinking that maybe the P2 would do that on its own....
proutsos 1 year ago
@proutsos Yes, the P2 is a good choice. You will hear the difference easily to your other microphone.

as a singer AND bassist... should i get the k240 mkII or the k271 mkII?
CCMrJones 1 year ago
@CCMrJones I would use the K 271 MkII in general because it is a closed-back design which has much less signal bleeding into the microphone.

ssarahh15 1 year ago
@ssarahh15 The best choice in this range would be a perception 820 Tube due to its great sounding capsule and the tube electronics which add rich harmonics to your voice.
Kind regards,

Would the Perception 120 sound good with recording death metal guitars? Would it be able to pick up the low chords without it turning muddy?

@pauldz44 I would use either a P 220 with activated attenuation pad or a P 5 dynamic microphone.

Nice and Funky, Jazzy, i love it, i was litle fear about the perception series, but with a good mixing desk and preamp it's sound good, is it build in Austria like the other's microphone ?
Meteotrance 1 year ago
@Meteotrance The entire Perception line has been designed and engineered by AKG in Vienna, Austria. The microphones are manufactured in China under strict quality control by AKG. This is how we can offer our microphone technologies and exceptional build quality at very attractive prices. All our premium products like the famous C 414, C 12 VR, C 451 B, K 702s and so on are handcrafted in Vienna.

Hi, I wanna a mic for vocals and record a guitar amp, what is it better? P120 or P220. thanks
llemotivell 1 year ago
@llemotivell I would prefer the P 220 because it is a proven large diaphragm microphone with very good sound quality. It delivers a full and clear sound which is great for lead vocals and miking guitar amps. In addition, the signal-to-noise ratio is higher.

are p 170 good for drum over head recording?
i have p420, i use to record vocals, it has 3 pattern, which one suitable to record vocals?
thx
dukkcess 1 year ago
@dukkcess Yes, the P 170 is a good choice because it is a small diaphragm mic designed for instruments and drums. Some engineers prefer large diaphragm microphones like the P 420 or P 220. It is up to you. In my opinion the small diaphragm mic sounds more precise and the large diaphragm mic sounds fuller.
...
AKGAcoustics 1 year ago
@AKGAcoustics ...
For vocals the P 420 works perfect. Almost all sound engineers are using the cardioid pickup pattern for recording lead vocals because it is a directional pickup pattern which attenuates ambient noise and reflections from the ceiling and the walls.

how is p120 for rap/hip hop vocals
mikeyv1993 1 year ago
The P 120 has mid-sized capsule for a transparent and clear sound. They are a good choice for vocals. For recording lead vocals we recommend large diaphragm mics like the P 220, P 420 or the P 820 Tube. They deliver an upright, warm and clear sound which is even better that the P 120. In addition, they offer true condenser technology, low noise electronics and come complete with a spider-type shock mount which eliminates mechanical vibrations.

how is the akg 220 perception on hip hop r&b vocals
NewMoney90100 2 years ago
The AKG Perception 220 shows a true condenser large diaphragm capsule which is a great choice for vocals. It delivers a warm, clear and transparent sound that works excellent for lead vocals but also a wide range of other applications like stringed instruments, drums, brass or ambience miking. Perception does it all ;-)

How does the Perception 420 perform on vocals?
It would be nice to see/hear a comparison of the 820 and the 420 on vocals.
GoodKarmaZodiacs 2 years ago
Is the Perception 820 good for rock guitar amp/cabinets as well, or should it stick to vocals? Also, is it good for drums? Great band by the way.
ForestMan1129 2 years ago
Thanks for your interest in our products. The Perception 820 Tube is a very versatile tube mic. It can handle high sound pressure levels which occur on loud instruments e.g. close-miking of guitar amps and drums. Thanks to its special tube circuit it delivers rich and smooth sound. If you prefer a more neutral sound, the integrated 20 dB attenuation pad can be activated easily.
Hope that helps.
