The police identified the likely suspect as Chiew Chan Saevang, a Thai immigrant and drug smuggler. The story appeared on America's Most Wanted and this led to his identification. His motives were never precisely determined, but apparently the husband in the family was involved in an opium smuggling ring with the Saevang. Saevang murdered his girlfriend and killed himself in Utah as police closed in.

I think it was the girl who made the call, I think she went with someone to a motel and the guy returned - I think she thought she was in love with the person that killed them. She may have even tried to pick and wrap or possibly hide the murder weapons possibly. Anyone who has programs to play her call in reverse and analyze it, its loaded with stuff.
