The ending would have been much better if it portrayed that there were hundreds of billions of galaxies in each marble instead. I'm not trying to discredit the ending but IMO it just could have been done better as it feels too unplausible to anyone who has studied high-school level astronomy.

This ending falls in place with current "mul-tiverse" hypotheses: If the marble represents the universe and dimension we inhabit, the unimaginably enormous alien it zooms out of is perhaps a good interpretation of another universe and dimension existing along side ours. Definitely one of the most thought-provoking endings to a movie of the 1990's.

Star clusters are part of galaxies.

Galaxies are part of the universe.

Those are facts. Now this theory seem to put galaxies completely apart from each other on a whole different scale (the marbles frontiers). It is not accurate since it is possible to travel to other galaxies. Now if our "marble" wasnt the galaxy but our universe, that is completely possible. It is what scientists study as the multiple universes scenario
