Bonham was GREAT! But he couldn't hold a candle to Paice or Barlow in any Arena! They both are technicins and play with a swing not known to most drummers. In other words.... they were complete drummers, any time, any music, and anywhere!
Bonham was most certainly technically superior. His feel was his choice of use of technique : superb, whereas Pace's was uninspired, but frantically constant.
Put Moby Dick from Albert Hall against this any day of the week and telle me who is technically superior and not making drum solos for Sesame Street
You are so far off base, it ain't even funny. Can you imagine Paice and Bonham in an onstage drum battle? It would be embaresing for poor Bonzo. Enjoy your dellusion.
This was on my 15th birthday. Man, he was on fire that night! It sounds to me like he could have given Buddy Rich a run for his money. And there's only a handfull of drummers who can do THAT! The ultimate heavyweight battle would have been Paice vs. Palmer. Imagine that, folks!
In my opinion Ian Paice is better than John Bonham, but he was great too, because he was able to play great stuff without being so technical...and he had a great feeling!
I dont remember saying that. and you werent arguing about feel i was. and you mentioned nothing about creativity or improve, you were talking about technicality...
don't you see? people who wrote before me say the same thing.Bonham is GREAT(great feel etc) but technically Paice is better,no word about it.I didn't mention all these before, because as anyone else, i see that the big difference between these two is technique.
@akisspyros ...yes, but in the end it's a pure question of taste and not relevant to the techniques, that both have at incredible levels. If I have to underline their best skills in a single term I'd say that Bonham is very powerful and Paicey is more jazzy...it's not a car race or a battle drums, it's supposed to be a form of art therefore we have to put aside these lame comments about who's the best...frankly, it's an idiot matter
@akisspyros Paicey? yes, I've been following him since 1971....many times saw him live with Purple band, he's terrific...but calm and very relaxed...I love this little boy ehehe
Há!! This is my first DP album back in a long time. I still have the vinil, but no place to hear.... They are the best live performance rock band of all time.
il est mon mentor ,un très grand drummer a tous jamais.

Ouch! Both Bonham and Paice are top notch, saying anything else is just stupid.

Bonham played very hard for that time - just like butcher. Good drummer but not among the fast ones.

...Mmm...a good idea for a new TV show... =)
But the best battle would have been Buddy Rich,Carl Palmer and Ian Paice...more powerful than an atomic bomb!!!

Does anyone understand those people who say that John Bonham blows away Ian Paice? It's not even close!
