TYT, You sir are a retard, Health care plan will destroy private health care. Who is paying you to say this crap, Your a sell out. You belong in France. TYT is for Socialists. You scum bags will never get the public option because we are not socialists and will never be socialists.
So how do you suggest we reform healthcare? There is no other option. Health Insurance companies run this country and operate like the mob. The have a stranglehold on the middle and lower class Americans. You need to open your eyes, Repubs are sheep...
Has everyone forgot about the progressive lobbyists that push this healthcare plan? Most of the citizens that support this plan can't tell you how much of our current annual spending we BORROW! Also, does anyone remember the other 4 times universal healthcare plan was proposed in Congress. (Hint: Fist 2 times, this was from KNOWN Socialists).
Oh, and I am a PRIVATE CITIZEN, not a insurance lobbyists. I have a finance education, I actually know history, and I can think logically.
What point are you trying to make? Outside of showing yourself as a pseudo-intellectual twat with a head full of misfiring synapses that is. I don't think you really know yourself.
People need health care NOW. Do any Republicans have a suggestion to fix this horrible situation? No, they don't. Republicans offer nothing but negative points to this argument. What is your suggestion? I am actually curious.
@patriciaannpat Spoken like a true Repub! You can't muster anything better than that? Can you offer some ideas, or are you just another fucking robot? I'm also curious how you think I answered my own question? I'm sensing you wear a helmet on a daily...
@GenuineVanillaFace republicans dont care about health care. they are heartlees, cold, void of emotion. to them the best thing that could happen is to see everyone but them dying in the street like wild dogs, no matter how old, how young, how sick or injured.. they would even walk by and shoot us in the head for joy, then go tell God what a good deed they did.
Does anyone else remember why they so quickly retracted the offer of 1.5% reduction by year? It was because of the outrage of proposing to cut the Medical loss ratio. Basically denial to pay for the health care policy holders paid for. It would force possibly tens of thousands of Americans into bankruptcy due to overwhelming medical expenses. This was fought against by mortgage companies, I suppose a few senators had some objections as if that mattered.
When an insurance company talks about cutting medical care costs. They are talking about denying medical payment for policy holders. They are not talking about reducing profits. Corporations have a legal obligation to increase profits for shareholders wherever possible. They can go to jail if they don't in a worst case scenario. They say in Cenk's quote "reducing health care spending" Not reduce company profits or administration costs. I don't think Cenk knows what he is saying in this vid.
I wonder if Cenk knows how health insurance companies cut health care costs? The largest and most popular way is by cutting down what is called the "medical loss ratio". What is that? Basically it is the portion of policy holders premiums that is used to pay for medical care. When you make a medical claim that is what they pay the hospital/doctor with. The only way to cut this cost is to deny coverage of medical care or to cancel policies on a technicality.
we dont need health care reform as much as we need good paying jobs for the people so they can afford health care.lot of people working 3 min wage jobs part time with no health care.we need to quit shipping our jobs to china and start paying the people enough they can live!!!just look at the mess the govt has made of social security and worker comp.what u want to have a attorney just to get health care too?
bo stinks and so do his bigger goverment ideas.we need to vote all these jokers out.
You know what... Fuck insurance companies and fuck the medical industry. They worship money and have no interest in your health. They want to keep you on drugs and take all your money. Fuck you all.
It is kind of amazing some "people" think health costs are like buying a car or any other commercial proposition (eg: all the insurance co-sponsored posts on Youtube by varying "people"). You can plan to buy a car or a house: it's your own responsibility and your money allocation--but you can't plan a medical affliction. Not the same. I simply note one anti-health plan person on Ytube had her two fave videos as a) a revolver shooting into a tank, and b) a clip of Milton F'man on "Greed". True!!
Great. Now we're getting somewhere. Since you aren't afforded the arena of a town hall meeting where you can get in my face and shout me down, I am curious. What is a reasonable cap to put on YOUR eyesight then?
Are you suggesting some sort of blanket caps then? That is totally insulting, and it does not allow judges to do their jobs. You are leaving the judges out of the equation too.How about jurors? Maybe we should hold the jurors accountable and do away with that system. Any defense of the current carny-run scheme where insurance companies have entire call centers dedicated to denying coverage is obscene, but I would expect as much from those who see the world strictly in erms of dollar signs.
I'm suggesting legislation to scrutinize the validity of these malpractice lawsuits, so that the frivolous ones don't go anywhere. Putting some reasonable caps on malpractice lawsuits would also be a good idea. Call me crazy, but when a doctor would have to perform a thousand operations perfectly to make the money just to pay for a single, minor mistake, something is clearly wrong. Nobody needs $15 million for slight pain from an operation.
Fortunately, the American people have been blessed with the internet, and are paying close attention to politics and government, as opposed to even twelve short years ago, when it seemed most were in a coma on such issues. That is why Obama won the last election and why the GOP is shitting the bed. The old tactics of lying and pulling numbers out of your ass aren't going to work. The people just aren't going to fall for every problem being solved by throwing more money at millionaires.
Once again - Totally relying on strictly numbers. Hell - Three deaths from unnecessary surgery are too many. The point is, are the doctors who caused these deaths supposed to be able to walk away scott free then? Are you a doctor, an insurance company exec, or just a Republican?
I am no fan of ambulance chasers either, but when someone receives such incompetency that they are disabled, blinded, maimed, you can't tell me that they should just be allowed to not be culpable. The yellow pages are full of doctors (lawyers too - I don't know which has the most real estate there) - not all of them are outstanding, and a few of them had to be at the lower end of their class. Anyway-You are right, lawyers need to be reigned in, but not at the expense of public safety either.
Oh yeah - The typical backwards Republican solution to everything: Throw even more money at the wealthy. This is why your party is dying a certain death.
How ignorant can you be? Malpractice attourneys make millions from frivolous lawsuits. HALF of your doctor bill is to pay for malpractice insurance, and the other half pays for the doctor, nurses, clerical staff, medical equipment, etc. Doctors aren't getting rich, only these worthless lawyers and their clients are. Reducing these lawsuits will DIRECTLY reduce the cost of healthcare. But please, just downrate my post and pretend lawyers are good people. Lawyer obama will thank you.
You are ignoring the real bastards - I have not said anything regarding blaming the doctors except if they do indeed screw up - not anything "frivolous" unless you consider certain things frivolous, but I'll give you the benefit of a doubt as to your common sense. My biggest gripes are actually with the insurance companies and the politicians in their pockets, but I'm sorry-I'm not going to roll over and let doctors get away with seriously screwing up.
Why don't democrats ever talk about medical melpractice attourneys? Doctors have pay for malpractice insurance, and the cost is passed on to the patients. It accounts for almost HALF of the doctor bill! Many of these lawsuits are frivelous and all of them are outrageously expensive. Legislation against them would be MUCH easier than obama's current plan, and probably more effective too since it will actually reduce the cost of treatment. Competition is good, but let's fix the real problem first.
Really im the tool by stating some simple facts, if the DR. can counter, it would cut out alot of the people that are trying to make a quick buck, and if there was a cap on the reward as well dr.s would have to buy as much insurance, and the cost would come down
Listen, turd! If you get your fucking leg lopped off when you went in for a rotor cup operation, what is YOUR motherfucking leg worth to you? What an asshole. Keep looking at the world strictly through economic glasses and where does that leave you? Right smack dab in the middle of the Republican party which is as useless and putrid as the shit-filled, rotting corpse of John Wayne. Good luck with all that shit, and you will be 50 before you know it - Good luck.
Really??? show me something where someone lost there leg within the last 10 year from a rotor cup operation?
Im sorry for being a right winger but i like to work for my money, i don't believe you should be able to use the system to get money for free. thats about cutting out the people who have no real reason to sue and stop the "slip-n-fall" lawers.
and in my eyes Marion Mitchell Morrison was the foundation of what Americans should be.
One question are you 5 years old? i come in post on a video and get attacked and called names, while trying state facts, there are other mean taking care of the problem, like tax cuts for people who buy there own insurance allow 2000$ a year to cover the cost, that way where not printing more and more money and making the value of the $ tank, its already limping with the spending thats going on, another trillion in paper would make it worth less than the paper its on
Let's try because just this morning NBC announced that a mere 200,000 people DIE in the U.S. from medical fuck ups-Of course, since it didn't come from Fox,most right-wing turds will say that story is fabricated.I am just so pissed -Tom Harkin was a victim of this new shouting tactic at his town hall meeting by people who aren't doctors, but were taking their marching orders from the insurance industry, preventing any real discussion.Meanwhile, the company where I work is ditching our coverage.
J.A.M.A:"The report apparently shows there are 2,000 deaths/year from unnecessary surgery; 7000 deaths/year from medication errors in hospitals; 20,000 deaths/year from other errors in hospitals; ....." you cut out the post op complications, and drug side effects that number holds no weight, even there source says "Experts estimate that a staggering 98,000 people die from preventable medical errors each year." that was a fabricated number.
What will a health care system do for USA? A more healthy and contented population. It will help the whole system when it has a healthy and working majority. It will gain the economy with about 70%.
The problem with saying public healthcare will be optional is that it's not. Everyone has to pay for it. It's only the using it that's optional. In the UK everyone has to pay for the NHS but if you want private (good) healthcare you have to fork out for that on top of what you're already paying.
But you know what they would do they tax the most on things that kill people. Like cigarettes, and alcohol. WOW something that will prevent people from buying stuff that kills them and they get health insurance it seems stupid to me!
Sorry this is scary if u read this far u will die in 10 days if u dont send to any 15 videos in 2 hours good luck hope u dont die
if you stop reading now bad things will happen,
4 months ago a girl was found dead at her computer dripping in water, she was still signed in to her youtube account and had not forwarded this message. copy and paste this message to five other videos before sunset
im sorry im just kinda scared of some person saying this
Let's try MEDICARE for all as an option for two years giving the Obama administration time to pull the plug and go SINGLE PAYOR like the rest of the civilized nations of the world, in time to run for re election... otherwise Palin/Romey 2012 and Labor Camps! :) :(
How can you possibly trust a monolithic organization to provide any service?
Having government provide healthy care makes it inevitable that a giant industry lobby will come to dominate the industry.
The free market is the only way to keep people honest. When government funds any thing, it lets the bureaucrats sit on their ass and leech off of the taxpayers.
That's why this thing will play along with the free market. It's not that the government will provide health care and nobody else can compete with the government.
republicans say "they want to put the government in between the patient and the doctor!!!" as opposed to what,a faceless,for-profit insurance company? that don't sound too bad
Question for people who are starkly against social medicine, have you ever lived in a country with social health care? I hope I get some replies. Thanks in advance. :-D
I don't have health care now. The options here are out of my reach. I have a family friend who is a doctor I pay cash to but...I can't afford anything serious. I will gladly take "medicare for all". Obama's team is smart on this because right wingers can keep their HMO & watch others save money & get better care. That is the foot in the door for single payer. Brilliant.
I say go to a voucher system that forces these behemoths to actually compete rather than form a cartel to monopolize the market. As with in the banking system; rather than give them trillions of dollars, give the money to the consumer and break up the companies that are 'to big to fail' and make them actually engage in business.
Well, to be fair, the issue that republican's have with a public option is that it would crowd out private competition. It would get so many people, and be so much cheaper that the vast majority of people would move to the public option, effectively destroying the health insurance industry.
I get that. It's actually a selling point for me. By crowding out private insurance companies we get that much closer to single payer.
isn't it funny that a plant like marijuana is illegal and all of these pharmaceutical companies deal shit that has printed on the label side effects that sounds worse than the actually illness? My friend takes anti depressants and his brother takes ritalin. My other friend has zynax. You take two handle bars and drink one beer, you can wake up in a jail cell covered in blood but no...weed is illegal.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
where do u lazy liberal scum get off thinking that ur entitled to free health care anyway? just a bunch of slobs lookin for another handout at my expense
right on! I am a Peace Corps volunteer living in Guatemala and I tell you our tax dollars in the U.S. get a LOT OF VALUE out of the Post Office, Police, electrical system, etc. compared to here in Guatemala. I am sure that Health Care will be the same because, as Americans, we have high expectations.
You do know that NO ONE in the private sector can handle what the Post Office handles, at the price it does. The PO does not make any money, it is taxpayer funded for the most part, cost covered somewhat by postage fees. FedEx couldn't even come close to the volume handled by the Post Office.
this is absolutely true. ive used all 4(3 now) of the mailing options extensively and by far the usps is easier, more convenient and cheaper than ups and way more than fedex.
Friction is so stupid that he thinks that phsyical laborers and troops and other dangerous proffessions are just lazy jobs, while the fucking white collar people that sit in a desk perfectly safe for decades are hard workers that will get screwed over by the health care.
After my comments if he's not pursuaded then he's a useless shit republican that can't understand how the world works.
Most of the people who need health care get the shaft especially when their job is a huge factor in it.
what about the free education elementery school children get at your expense, or the free law enforcement people get at your expense, this is no different. there is no such thing as free health care, but everyone contributes and everyone benefits, its called working together its what civilization is based on.
because you can't empathize with the circumstances of other Americans except as a single, white male with no kids or parents to take care of or illnesses, one day you are going to have one or all of these things and it will be a expensive.
You see the people who need health care can't afford it. The people that can afford it can't get coverage because by the time they can they're called a "Pre-existing condition"
So let's say that you're a physical laborer, and because of the economy you lose your job and your job provided health care. Then something comes up while on temporary insurance. They WILL NOT pay for it because of that clause.
So your argument is exactly ass fucking backwards.
I'm not getting health care. It would be a waste of money. I'd have to pay 1 week's pay before health care would pay for the treatments, PLUS the monthly fees that are half a week's pay every month, PLUS I could easily be denied for pre-existing conditions due to not being on health care PLUS i'm not even eligible for health care till I work at my job for a fucking year of doing physical labor.
friction, what happens if your employer goes out of business, or you get laid off or fired. Your screwed, thats what. And how good is your insurance. Wait till you have a major medical expense and watch how quick your insurer finds a way to deny your medical treatment. But I guess your rich enough to cover the medical expenses yourself, or get a good lawyer to fight it. 50% of all bancruptcies
in are do to medical bills. Do you really think they will come thru for you when you need it.
Well just pray to what ever God you might believe in, that you don't get let go, or lose your job, or get transferred, or anything else that might make you change your insurance company, and then find out that you're still covered, but they won't pay because they consider you a pre-existing condition.
If you don't believe in a God then just remember that fact. When you pay for coverage and then do not get the help you deserve, you'll end up wishing the government had fixed SOMETHING about it.
the health care industry (HMO's,Medicare, medicade, and private insurance companies) have been lying to everyone for the past 25+ years. Why are you so stunned and surprised. They screw doctors, patients and anyone else who is in their way to make a a quick buck at some else's expense. It is criminal and unfortunate that this ultimately puts lives at risk.
Question for people who are starkly against social medicine, have you ever lived in a country with social health care? I hope I get some replies. Thanks in advance. :-D
Republicans are the ONLY party that has offered competition in the health care market. The only option Democracts have offered is let government control it. Republicans want families to choose their provider, while Democrats say let government control it. Funny how government cant run anything efficently, i.e. social security. Free markets is something that Democrats don't believe in. That would mean they wouldn't have power. The more government the happier Democrats are.
Agreed, to an extent anyway. The Democratic party in the states is an excuse of an organization
The fundamental problem though, is that the 'free market' rewards only personal selfishness. Pure capitalism is a form of Anarchy. On paper communism is perfect, but in application it hasn't been so effective.
I think the real question is how we avoid selfish apathy while not stifling a person's motivation.
Offering the choice of lower cost, more efficient healthcare to anyone who wants it (meaning anyone who doesn't... doesn't have to take it... ) is common sense. Making statements like "republicans want families to choose their provider while democrats say let government control" are just attempts to scare people and ignore the FACTS and current status off Americas healthcare system. Sure the govt doesn't run everything perfect...but its not being run perfect now... is it?
Ok to your comment about Govt. control health care and the status of American Healthcare. Isn't funny how citizens from Europe and Canada come to the US to get health care. Where there is socialized medicine the govt tells you when and even if you are allowed to have your illness taken care of. Sure our healthcare isnt perfect, i know that, BUT it is by fair the best healthcare industry in the world.
Oh man! When and if I am allowed to have my illness taken care? What a joke! It's obvious you know nothing about the Canadian healthy care system. I get whatever treatment I need whenever I need it and it's at least as good as what you get in the Excited States. So, you need to learn a thing or 2 about the Canadian healthcare system before you disparage it.
I have seen study after study of Canadian Citizens who cant get the healthcare they need there in Canada and come to the US to pay out of their own pocket to get surgeries and other medical treatment they need to live. Look at the actress who was in that skiing accident several months back. Instead of going to a Canadian hospital there in Toronto, her husband flies her to the US. When asked why he did that he said that the US healthcare was a better system and she would have a better chance here
Thats the biggest piece of bullshit I've read in a while. Rich hypochondriacs go to the States and pay top dollar to have unneeded MRIs every now and then, but ask any Canadian whether they'd swap our system for yours, and they'll laugh in your face.
Sure, the US health care system is great if your rich. But what about the millions who have rip-off hmo's or no insurance at all. There are very few Canadians who would rather have the US health care system. The US was ranked number pathetic number 37 by the World Health Organization.
Then how come the U.S. has the highest infant mortality rate in the first world. It may be true that some wealthy Canadians go to the US, but thousands of poor Americans come to Canada to use the health care services our tax payers pay for. The irony is our Socialist system costs the Government less per capita, than your corrupt inefficient "industry" so how can yours be the best
you didn't answer my question about how republicans have attempted to add competition the healthcare system
The us and canadain healthcare system are both flawed. I'm not suggested we model our system just like canada. we take some good ideas from them and learn from the bad.
Do you realize that many americans go to canada for prescriptions and simple operations?
also don't overlook the fact that Canada has a HIGHER life expectancy than the us
and a LOWER infant mortality rate while spending much less per person than the us....
Am i suppose to believe that the has a better "fair" healthcare system just because the pople that do have healthcare have good (expensive, but good) healthcare? while millions go with out?
Infact did you listen to video at all? about the free market and competition, this insurance companies need a wake up call. Do you pay for your own insurance? do you really even know how much it cost for a plan?
Also how are republicans the only party that has offered competition in the health care market? now dont' get me wrong i'm not saying the dems have either/yet, but please tell me when the republicans have
HHH00069, your comment is classic Republican Health care propoganda. My guess is that you work in management at a major HMO, or work for the Republican Party. Nobody believes that Bullshit lie anymore.
I don't understand you Americans, does it not say in your constitution that you have the right to LIFE liberty and the pursuit of happiness. Yet your health care "industry" trades in human lives for profit. How can you have liberty when your life is owned by an insurance company to be thrown away on a whim, how can you pursue happiness if you die of a curable but untreated disease. Forget the right to bear arms your more fundamental rights are the ones not being protected.
Healthcare reform has been a top priority for most Americans for decades. But Big Business has successfully killed any type of reform. So why does health reform suddenly have a chance of passing now? Because Big Business is taking a hit. For example, it costs GM $1500 more to build a car in the US than in Canada because of health care for US GM workers. That's per car. When Americans talk, congress says fuck you, but when Big Business talks everyone in Congress listens.
well thats because the average persons pockets aren't as fat as GMs, but ya your right man and some or all of our senators are corrupted and accept money for their seats
The Healthcare industry came up with the 1.5% per year cut in health care costs to placate Big Business and Congress, in an effort to stop actual reform. They have no intention of actually following thru on it.
I think a real conservative wouldn't necessarily want a public option, but would rather have anti-trust measures do their job and ensure healthy competition within the private sector.. and if health care costs are just going up unbounded, then it would seem we have an obvious case of monopolistic practices to me.
problem with public health care is that's not necessarily "healthy" competition, because the government sets the rules and can tend toward monopolistic characteristics itself.
healthcare companies ROCK! government run healthcare? HAHA!! that's a joke. yeah, if u want the worst care ever. the government can't even deliver the mail. maybe the post offices could also become walk-in clinics.
Health care is affordable for those that maintain their health. Health insurance is not health assurance. eat right, exercise, live right, and a person will see the blessings of good health. Do the contrary, and the best health care industry in the world cannot protect us. If everyone in the US committed themselves to returning to good health, we could put an end to the greed that has become rampant in our health care system.
what about people that just get sick? I know that might seem like a crazy concept but uh it happens. perfectly healthy people get sick and die early for genetic reasons or a bunch of other reasons. i do think obesity is ridiculous but i am a smoker too so that is something I should work on but i dont necessarily know if I should be punished for it since I am so young right now...the point is that poor people have a harder time getting access to healthcare. its not as easy for some people
If the majority of the populace were to maintain lifestyles that promote good health, the relatively few that are and will get sick should be able to afford health care, or taxpayer assistance should be able to help pay for it. Health care cost are high due to supply and demand. Too many people are in poor health, more than taxpayers can afford. future generations should not be put in financial bondage because their parents did not take care of their own health. I wish you all the best.
Same old crusts are sitting at the table. Any "savings" cut will be wages of healthcare workers. Single payer advocates were led out of the room by cops.
Usury by credit card co.s allowed on Fri by dem bluedogs..33-40% interest is the worst news in years for the taxpayers who just bailed them out! Credit is over people.
France has no problem being heard by their gov't.
U.S. has been wearing us down on all sides for 9 years w/threats & fear.
I say get rid of the middlemen have the competition and yes make the government pay for it. Cause it is ridiculous for the insurance companies to deny people healthcare and yet pay for viagra but not mamograms. And yes, I am all for Universal healthcare
exactly dude thats what I always say. it'll be a more competitive industry and there could still be private doctors to attend to people that need immediate attention...so people's arguments about waiting list are void and pointless. there is really no reason not to make it accessable to people who need it dont you agree?
If a American goverment like NASA can send a man on the moon, they sure as hell can manage a hospital. Americans can do whatever they set their mind to. Greating from Sweden.
Am I the only one on the planet who thinks the health care industry shouldn't involve any business aspects at all? There's something sleazy about it. I don't know about any alternatives, but making money from sick, elderly, and dying people seems really horrid.
public healthcare only works if they make everyone do it, Massachusetts has shown us that, the private one will get destroyed by this, that is why they are scared. not saying it will be better or worse, only time can show us that
Get rid of healthcare companies all together and introduce a national healthcare service where Americans can get free healthcare at point of delivery. They pay a small contribution each in taxes to cover expenses. End of H/care companies.
You're absolutely right, a national healthcare service is the solution. It works in Canada, the UK and France to name just a few. Unfortunately the greedy Mega Healthcare industry will kill it dead in its tracks, just as they have done for decades. Our government isn't about providing healthcare, it's about ensuring mega industries like the health care industry make gazillions of dollars.
I don't say it's a perfect system but run properly it'll probaby stop a cancer sufferer having to ring up to see if the h/care company will meet the costs of treatment, or the h/care company trying to wriggle out of paying anything, which I think is truly disgusting. Thanks for replying
The best solution is to join the French and pay them for our healthcare. We wouldn't have to even bother with the government formulating a healthcare plan. Just give everyone a ticket to fly to Paris and see the doctor.
No you're not, thats the point. It won't be free healthcare for everyone, it will be healthcare for the people that buy it. But it won't be doing denial of service or paying ceos and shareholders rediculous compensations, so it will have lower overheads, and therefore be cheaper for its members. And the more people that join, the cheaper it becomes through economy of scale, so they can undercut the HMOs and put them out of business. Hence Competition.
Anything is better than what we have now. You have to mortgage your house and take out a $50,000 loan just to step inside an emergency room. America is ranked number 37 by the World Health Organization. Fuck yea, monopolize it, socialize it, whateverize it, cause it can only be better than it is now.
So no one can afford it before, but by simply removing the choice to pay for it and making it mandatory will suddenly make those costs disappear?
No, all it will do is drag us down economically and now no one will have to risk their mortgage because they'll be renters for life so they can hand what little savings they had to their children so they can buy the small house they couldn't.
But let's say for a second that it brings costs down, the quality will go down because there aren't as many
incentives to become doctors. The cold reality is that most people that get into medicine nowadays do it for the money, "lowered costs" is the equivalent of a salary cut and the effect of that will be an exodus from the profession.
The few doctors left that actually want to help people will have a huge workload and you'll end up with large waiting lists, ect.
The doctors that left the "public health care" system will leave to start their own professions for a larger fee and some will follow.
Some of their patients will follow them to their practice.
Most people will opt for the cheaper "public health care" but when it comes to life and death matters and a waiting list isn't an option, they'll go to the doctors that started a private practice.
Meanwhile, with the large vacancy from all the doctors that left, those that do go through the training to become one for the "public health care" system will basically be guaranteed a job regardless of their skill and the accident rate will
skyrocket, and said accidents will largely be ignored unless it comes to the public spotlight, because they'll need what little personal comes through.
The bad doctors will will continue to grow through the cheap system because there would be no other way they could get patients and the good doctors will continue to start their own practices and private peer organizations
Eventually there will be a similar public outcry and the "loving" government will step in to "fix" the disparity by forcing
the private practices to either drop their rates, rejoin the "public health care" system or they may simply make it illegal to run a private practice.
The same thing will happen when the good doctors left the "public health care" system, only this time, they'll leave to another profession, or will continue to operate underground, which may very well lead to it's own tragedies.
All that will be left is a giant, unaccountable rabble of bad doctors who will end up doing more harm then good.
Eventually, people will stop paying for this service and will go overseas for care and the system will become a burnout shell of what it once was.
A third public outcry will occur or the system itself may be labeled as "too big to fail" and the government will inevitably step in to make it universal.
Of course the quality won't go up, it'll only continue to plummet and people will still go over seas for treatment, only there will be less people that can afford to do so because they'll still be
paying for the service they're going overseas to avoid.
In the end, it will only hurt more people then the current system and now there are a bunch of doctors that we desperately need looking/training for a higher paying job.
A national healthcare service is the solution.
For all it's praises, people get hurt by the waiting lists in those countries, so I'm 100% against it.
But you're right about big pharma, it is way out of control, however the absolute worst thing you could do is change it from government backed to part of the government, as that will only make it worse and even more bloated.
Then you'll be glad to know that a public option won't be "part of the government". You'll get your own doctor, your own choices-it will merely be *paid* through Medi-care (or equiv.) instead of a big HMO. You actually get less interference and less bureaucracy that today's system. They'll just cut the check. It won't be like Canada. And you can keep your existing plan if you like that better.
Oh yeah, let's quit our jobs, because having free healthcare while not being able to afford a decent lifestyle is so much fun. I would quit my job anytime for that.
I'm partly agreeing with you. If it's about holidays, cars ... luxury goods, YES, you should and you have to work for it! You won't be able to afford such things without a job.
But you shouldn't have to work your ass off for basic things like healthcare.
You can't bottom out the pay rate for doctors without having a massive exodus from the profession which would effect the quality and time it would take to get to you or me medically.
no body said you have to quit your job...this will benefit you my friend. it will just make old grandma who cant work no more get approved of that surgery she desperately needs...if you think government run programs is "socialism"..stop sending your children to school.
One of the things with healthcare and business in general is to defeat the more honest competition. Compare it to a race where one runner will try to "kneecap" the other when no one is looking and then it's "a walk in the park" to victory. Can you imagine a rich or status person accepting less money when they could cheat and get more money and position themselves better? It's the kind of thing in life that makes people want to wear suits and ties and go to the bank.
I've said it before, I'll say it again, healthcare should not be a for-profit industry.
We as a nation have the power to make sure every member of our country has available healthcare that won't put them into huge financial burden. The question is will we do it or will we let greed keep us from that greatness?
The solution is to make it more like an ACTUAL free market. Get gov't out of the way and let consumers be in control once again. The idea that healthcare can't operate like any other market is just absurd. We can if we let it work. Let's empower consumers, not put more debt and gov't on their backs.
Besides, don't we ALREADY have a public option known as Medicaid? And SCHIP for kids? All we have to do is fix those systems. Fix eligibility requirements and whatnot.
Making our healthcare system "more competitive" by introducing a so-called public option sounds stupidly ironic, dontcha think? And are you REALLY gonna give up to reforming the system that easily, by just increasing the size and spending of gov't and making ANOTHER agency for public healthcare??? The whole reason we're in this mess is because of stupid shit gov't's been doing to healthcare SINCE at least the 1960s! It's no coincidence that gov't growth and spending have skyrocketed here.

Saromatae 2 years ago
When an insurance company talks about cutting medical care costs. They are talking about denying medical payment for policy holders. They are not talking about reducing profits. Corporations have a legal obligation to increase profits for shareholders wherever possible. They can go to jail if they don't in a worst case scenario. They say in Cenk's quote "reducing health care spending" Not reduce company profits or administration costs. I don't think Cenk knows what he is saying in this vid.
Saromatae 2 years ago
I wonder if Cenk knows how health insurance companies cut health care costs? The largest and most popular way is by cutting down what is called the "medical loss ratio". What is that? Basically it is the portion of policy holders premiums that is used to pay for medical care. When you make a medical claim that is what they pay the hospital/doctor with. The only way to cut this cost is to deny coverage of medical care or to cancel policies on a technicality.

What is a reasonable cap to put on YOUR eyesight then?
kipptumor 2 years ago
Are you suggesting some sort of blanket caps then? That is totally insulting, and it does not allow judges to do their jobs. You are leaving the judges out of the equation too.How about jurors? Maybe we should hold the jurors accountable and do away with that system. Any defense of the current carny-run scheme where insurance companies have entire call centers dedicated to denying coverage is obscene, but I would expect as much from those who see the world strictly in erms of dollar signs.
kipptumor 2 years ago

The people just aren't going to fall for every problem being solved by throwing more money at millionaires.
kipptumor 2 years ago 4
Once again - Totally relying on strictly numbers. Hell - Three deaths from unnecessary surgery are too many. The point is, are the doctors who caused these deaths supposed to be able to walk away scott free then? Are you a doctor, an insurance company exec, or just a Republican?
kipptumor 2 years ago
I am no fan of ambulance chasers either, but when someone receives such incompetency that they are disabled, blinded, maimed, you can't tell me that they should just be allowed to not be culpable. The yellow pages are full of doctors (lawyers too - I don't know which has the most real estate there) - not all of them are outstanding, and a few of them had to be at the lower end of their class. Anyway-You are right, lawyers need to be reigned in, but not at the expense of public safety either.

"I'll tell you what you can buy, what you can eat and drink, and what energy you can use. If you disagree then you get to pay more taxes"
Put a huge tax on medical malpractice lawsuits instead if you really want to fix the problem by taxing the problem.
Monawanaha 2 years ago
Oh yeah - The typical backwards Republican solution to everything: Throw even more money at the wealthy. This is why your party is dying a certain death.
kipptumor 2 years ago
How ignorant can you be? Malpractice attourneys make millions from frivolous lawsuits. HALF of your doctor bill is to pay for malpractice insurance, and the other half pays for the doctor, nurses, clerical staff, medical equipment, etc. Doctors aren't getting rich, only these worthless lawyers and their clients are. Reducing these lawsuits will DIRECTLY reduce the cost of healthcare. But please, just downrate my post and pretend lawyers are good people. Lawyer obama will thank you.
Monawanaha 2 years ago
You are ignoring the real bastards - I have not said anything regarding blaming the doctors except if they do indeed screw up - not anything "frivolous" unless you consider certain things frivolous, but I'll give you the benefit of a doubt as to your common sense. My biggest gripes are actually with the insurance companies and the politicians in their pockets, but I'm sorry-I'm not going to roll over and let doctors get away with seriously screwing up.
kipptumor 2 years ago
Why don't democrats ever talk about medical melpractice attourneys? Doctors have pay for malpractice insurance, and the cost is passed on to the patients. It accounts for almost HALF of the doctor bill! Many of these lawsuits are frivelous and all of them are outrageously expensive. Legislation against them would be MUCH easier than obama's current plan, and probably more effective too since it will actually reduce the cost of treatment. Competition is good, but let's fix the real problem first.

The problem with saying public healthcare will be optional is that it's not. Everyone has to pay for it. It's only the using it that's optional. In the UK everyone has to pay for the NHS but if you want private (good) healthcare you have to fork out for that on top of what you're already paying.

Socialized healthcare = bad.

Brilliant.
Corporations8MyBaby 2 years ago
I say go to a voucher system that forces these behemoths to actually compete rather than form a cartel to monopolize the market. As with in the banking system; rather than give them trillions of dollars, give the money to the consumer and break up the companies that are 'to big to fail' and make them actually engage in business.
franksnow79 2 years ago
Well, to be fair, the issue that republican's have with a public option is that it would crowd out private competition. It would get so many people, and be so much cheaper that the vast majority of people would move to the public option, effectively destroying the health insurance industry.
I get that. It's actually a selling point for me. By crowding out private insurance companies we get that much closer to single payer.

You don't understand how the world works.

So what's your story/condition currently huh?

But I guess your rich enough to cover the medical expenses yourself, or get a good lawyer to fight it. 50% of all bancruptcies

kymystic65 2 years ago 2
Well just pray to what ever God you might believe in, that you don't get let go, or lose your job, or get transferred, or anything else that might make you change your insurance company, and then find out that you're still covered, but they won't pay because they consider you a pre-existing condition.
If you don't believe in a God then just remember that fact. When you pay for coverage and then do not get the help you deserve, you'll end up wishing the government had fixed SOMETHING about it.

HHH00069 2 years ago
Agreed, to an extent anyway. The Democratic party in the states is an excuse of an organization
The fundamental problem though, is that the 'free market' rewards only personal selfishness. Pure capitalism is a form of Anarchy. On paper communism is perfect, but in application it hasn't been so effective.
I think the real question is how we avoid selfish apathy while not stifling a person's motivation.
Where is the balance? That is the question.
*Optional* Public Health *could* be a step.

Sure the govt doesn't run everything perfect...but its not being run perfect now... is it?
stucker0 2 years ago
Ok to your comment about Govt. control health care and the status of American Healthcare. Isn't funny how citizens from Europe and Canada come to the US to get health care. Where there is socialized medicine the govt tells you when and even if you are allowed to have your illness taken care of. Sure our healthcare isnt perfect, i know that, BUT it is by fair the best healthcare industry in the world.
HHH00069 2 years ago
Oh man! When and if I am allowed to have my illness taken care? What a joke! It's obvious you know nothing about the Canadian healthy care system. I get whatever treatment I need whenever I need it and it's at least as good as what you get in the Excited States. So, you need to learn a thing or 2 about the Canadian healthcare system before you disparage it.
cryptodud 2 years ago
I have seen study after study of Canadian Citizens who cant get the healthcare they need there in Canada and come to the US to pay out of their own pocket to get surgeries and other medical treatment they need to live. Look at the actress who was in that skiing accident several months back. Instead of going to a Canadian hospital there in Toronto, her husband flies her to the US. When asked why he did that he said that the US healthcare was a better system and she would have a better chance here

They have no intention of actually following thru on it.

exactly right - The large healthcare costs hit 'Big businesses' hardest during recessions. congress will listen when they start crying...

HAHA!! that's a joke. yeah, if u want the worst care ever. the government can't even deliver the mail. maybe the post offices could also become walk-in clinics.
friction00815 2 years ago
Health care is affordable for those that maintain their health. Health insurance is not health assurance. eat right, exercise, live right, and a person will see the blessings of good health. Do the contrary, and the best health care industry in the world cannot protect us. If everyone in the US committed themselves to returning to good health, we could put an end to the greed that has become rampant in our health care system.

what about people that just get sick? I know that might seem like a crazy concept but uh it happens. perfectly healthy people get sick and die early for genetic reasons or a bunch of other reasons. i do think obesity is ridiculous but i am a smoker too so that is something I should work on but i dont necessarily know if I should be punished for it since I am so young right now...the point is that poor people have a harder time getting access to healthcare. its not as easy for some people
seestickglue232 2 years ago
If the majority of the populace were to maintain lifestyles that promote good health, the relatively few that are and will get sick should be able to afford health care, or taxpayer assistance should be able to help pay for it. Health care cost are high due to supply and demand. Too many people are in poor health, more than taxpayers can afford. future generations should not be put in financial bondage because their parents did not take care of their own health. I wish you all the best.

Same old crusts are sitting at the table. Any "savings" cut will be wages of healthcare workers. Single payer advocates were led out of the room by cops.

ValyTraveler 2 years ago
exactly dude thats what I always say. it'll be a more competitive industry and there could still be private doctors to attend to people that need immediate attention...so people's arguments about waiting list are void and pointless. there is really no reason not to make it accessable to people who need it dont you agree?

If a American goverment like NASA can send a man on the moon, they sure as hell can manage a hospital. Americans can do whatever they set their mind to. Greating from Sweden.

Am I the only one on the planet who thinks the health care industry shouldn't involve any business aspects at all? There's something sleazy about it. I don't know about any alternatives, but making money from sick, elderly, and dying people seems really horrid.

Get rid of healthcare companies all together and introduce a national healthcare service where Americans can get free healthcare at point of delivery. They pay a small contribution each in taxes to cover expenses. End of H/care companies.
Cutchswife 2 years ago 2
You're absolutely right, a national healthcare service is the solution. It works in Canada, the UK and France to name just a few. Unfortunately the greedy Mega Healthcare industry will kill it dead in its tracks, just as they have done for decades. Our government isn't about providing healthcare, it's about ensuring mega industries like the health care industry make gazillions of dollars.
kymystic65 2 years ago
I don't say it's a perfect system but run properly it'll probaby stop a cancer sufferer having to ring up to see if the h/care company will meet the costs of treatment, or the h/care company trying to wriggle out of paying anything, which I think is truly disgusting. Thanks for replying
Cutchswife 2 years ago
The best solution is to join the French and pay them for our healthcare. We wouldn't have to even bother with the government formulating a healthcare plan. Just give everyone a ticket to fly to Paris and see the doctor.
pongman 2 years ago
"Public health care" isn't competition, because regardless of whether you use it or not, you're paying for it.
cheeseaura 2 years ago
No you're not, thats the point. It won't be free healthcare for everyone, it will be healthcare for the people that buy it. But it won't be doing denial of service or paying ceos and shareholders rediculous compensations, so it will have lower overheads, and therefore be cheaper for its members. And the more people that join, the cheaper it becomes through economy of scale, so they can undercut the HMOs and put them out of business. Hence Competition.
Rawthorn 2 years ago
So you want to monopolize health care and expect it to end well? And the government is the one pushing for it and you expect it to be voluntary?
Is that you're position?
cheeseaura 2 years ago
Anything is better than what we have now. You have to mortgage your house and take out a $50,000 loan just to step inside an emergency room. America is ranked number 37 by the World Health Organization. Fuck yea, monopolize it, socialize it, whateverize it, cause it can only be better than it is now.
kymystic65 2 years ago 3
So no one can afford it before, but by simply removing the choice to pay for it and making it mandatory will suddenly make those costs disappear?
No, all it will do is drag us down economically and now no one will have to risk their mortgage because they'll be renters for life so they can hand what little savings they had to their children so they can buy the small house they couldn't.
But let's say for a second that it brings costs down, the quality will go down because there aren't as many
cheeseaura 2 years ago
incentives to become doctors. The cold reality is that most people that get into medicine nowadays do it for the money, "lowered costs" is the equivalent of a salary cut and the effect of that will be an exodus from the profession.
The few doctors left that actually want to help people will have a huge workload and you'll end up with large waiting lists, ect.
The doctors that left the "public health care" system will leave to start their own professions for a larger fee and some will follow.
cheeseaura 2 years ago
Some of their patients will follow them to their practice.
Most people will opt for the cheaper "public health care" but when it comes to life and death matters and a waiting list isn't an option, they'll go to the doctors that started a private practice.
Meanwhile, with the large vacancy from all the doctors that left, those that do go through the training to become one for the "public health care" system will basically be guaranteed a job regardless of their skill and the accident rate will
cheeseaura 2 years ago
skyrocket, and said accidents will largely be ignored unless it comes to the public spotlight, because they'll need what little personal comes through.
The bad doctors will will continue to grow through the cheap system because there would be no other way they could get patients and the good doctors will continue to start their own practices and private peer organizations
Eventually there will be a similar public outcry and the "loving" government will step in to "fix" the disparity by forcing
cheeseaura 2 years ago
the private practices to either drop their rates, rejoin the "public health care" system or they may simply make it illegal to run a private practice.
The same thing will happen when the good doctors left the "public health care" system, only this time, they'll leave to another profession, or will continue to operate underground, which may very well lead to it's own tragedies.
All that will be left is a giant, unaccountable rabble of bad doctors who will end up doing more harm then good.
cheeseaura 2 years ago
Eventually, people will stop paying for this service and will go overseas for care and the system will become a burnout shell of what it once was.
A third public outcry will occur or the system itself may be labeled as "too big to fail" and the government will inevitably step in to make it universal.
Of course the quality won't go up, it'll only continue to plummet and people will still go over seas for treatment, only there will be less people that can afford to do so because they'll still be
cheeseaura 2 years ago
paying for the service they're going overseas to avoid.
In the end, it will only hurt more people then the current system and now there are a bunch of doctors that we desperately need looking/training for a higher paying job.
cheeseaura 2 years ago

kymystic65 2 years ago
For all it's praises, people get hurt by the waiting lists in those countries, so I'm 100% against it.
But you're right about big pharma, it is way out of control, however the absolute worst thing you could do is change it from government backed to part of the government, as that will only make it worse and even more bloated.
cheeseaura 2 years ago
Then you'll be glad to know that a public option won't be "part of the government". You'll get your own doctor, your own choices-it will merely be *paid* through Medi-care (or equiv.) instead of a big HMO. You actually get less interference and less bureaucracy that today's system. They'll just cut the check. It won't be like Canada. And you can keep your existing plan if you like that better.

Great, so I'll have no say on the fruits of my labor.
Hell, why don't I just quit my job, get welfare and sit around and enjoy myself. Working is for suckers who like to have their paycheck stolen.
...OH WAIT, if everyone does that the system falls apart.
If you keep creating incentives for people not to work, they won't and it will continue to have a cascade effect.
cheeseaura 2 years ago
Oh yeah, let's quit our jobs, because having free healthcare while not being able to afford a decent lifestyle is so much fun. I would quit my job anytime for that.
... OH WAIT, it actually isn't so much fun.
psyborg0815 2 years ago
So in the end you admit if they want something people should work for it.
Glad we agree.
cheeseaura 2 years ago
I'm partly agreeing with you. If it's about holidays, cars ... luxury goods, YES, you should and you have to work for it! You won't be able to afford such things without a job.
But you shouldn't have to work your ass off for basic things like healthcare.
psyborg0815 2 years ago
You can't bottom out the pay rate for doctors without having a massive exodus from the profession which would effect the quality and time it would take to get to you or me medically.
It sucks, but that's the way it is.
cheeseaura 2 years ago
no body said you have to quit your job...this will benefit you my friend. it will just make old grandma who cant work no more get approved of that surgery she desperately needs...if you think government run programs is "socialism"..stop sending your children to school.

It's the kind of thing in life that makes people want to wear suits and ties and go to the bank.
hypnofan35 2 years ago
I've said it before, I'll say it again, healthcare should not be a for-profit industry.
We as a nation have the power to make sure every member of our country has available healthcare that won't put them into huge financial burden. The question is will we do it or will we let greed keep us from that greatness?

health care is something that should be dealt by the governement whatever you say. Health care shoud not be a business !!!
Melpheos1er 2 years ago
The solution is to make it more like an ACTUAL free market. Get gov't out of the way and let consumers be in control once again. The idea that healthcare can't operate like any other market is just absurd. We can if we let it work. Let's empower consumers, not put more debt and gov't on their backs.
Besides, don't we ALREADY have a public option known as Medicaid? And SCHIP for kids? All we have to do is fix those systems. Fix eligibility requirements and whatnot.
whoo689 2 years ago
Medicaid is only for low income. Not for everyone so get your fact straight.
Melpheos1er 2 years ago
Making our healthcare system "more competitive" by introducing a so-called public option sounds stupidly ironic, dontcha think? And are you REALLY gonna give up to reforming the system that easily, by just increasing the size and spending of gov't and making ANOTHER agency for public healthcare??? The whole reason we're in this mess is because of stupid shit gov't's been doing to healthcare SINCE at least the 1960s! It's no coincidence that gov't growth and spending have skyrocketed here.
