Every Aikido dojo is different. My style also has colored belts for Kyu ranks, as well as 10 Kyu ranks instead of 6. Do not assume that your way is the only way; it makes you sound very ignorant!
The simple reason is that this is just one version of the kotegaeshi that I do. I didn't have the time to do all of the versions that I know. This is just one way, one interpretation if you understand.
The other reason is that I find to put the additional tenkan in there takes too much time and allows the uke another opportunity to counter me. If you watch my other kotegaeshi videos, you'll see that I enter in and put them straight down. For me, it's quicker and more efficient. Try it!
Ah, I see. I tried it in class on monday, and it is just as effective.
Have you ever done a kotegaeshi from uraken uchi? I don't mean the usual kotegaeshi, but the one where you block the strike with both hands, place one hand on top of the thumb side of the hand, then move your intire body under and through the arm, keeping the grip on the arm? It's like the first step of shihonage, except it isn't a four corner throw.

No, there are no colour belts in YOUR aikido. We have plenty of color in our belts. The only problem is you have to EARN it. Thanks!!!
