  • I don't care if he stole material or not, he's still an awful comedian...

  • Bill did it better when he wrote it

  • I like Bill Hicks, but his fanboys are the most irritating people on Youtube. I won't deny that Leary may have stolen a few jokes, but to go and say that his whole persona is stolen of Hicks seems kinda excessive. They both spoke of the same subject matter, but with a different delivery. Plus, the whole ''asshole comedian'' stchick is directly lifted off Carlin and Lenny Bruce anyway.

  • his good but youre fuckign nuts if you dont think he raxed some jokes

  • leary stole bills act. it's not even up for fucking debate. some jokes he copied almost word for word. don't fool yourselves into believing otherwise.

  • he look like the bad guy from the crow

  • not that funny, but I appreciate him defending smokers nonetheless.

  • Lol I love cigs too Denis :)

  • To thatguytheyareafter. Does it really matter if he stole from hicks in the first place? Let him. Who cares. Its not about who wrote it its about who delivers it better. if someone can tell someone else joke as good or better then they can fuck the other person and let them.

  • I don't think leary ripped anyone off, but still, the motherfucker should slow down.

  • one of the best 5 minutes of stand up EVER! sustained hilarity. never lets up and he's BOLD!

  • Material was decent

But the crowd had a 4-drink minimum that night

  • rofl

  • so since bill hicks talked about smoking and drinking and drugs does that mean no one else is ever allowed to talk about the same topics ever again? because you just said exactly that. good job on being a biast, closed minded piece of shit fuck face of a retard.

  • He ripped off his entire persona, buddy. If you honestly think Leary didn't rip Hicks off, you haven't seen enough or you're deluded. It happened. The two even used to be friends.... then Leary ripped of Hicks' material... and recorded it!

  • @llevitron

You must be one cynical sonofabitch if you think that Bill Hicks is the creator and only person with that persona. This is a rather common persona in American society, or don't you leave your house?

  • @SMALegacy05 I'm talking in terms of comedy, for one. For a comic, the persona that Bill had was quite genuine in terms of his true self and not much like that of your typical comic... that's all I was getting at there. But sure, on certain levels, I am very cynical. I'd say a more common, contemporary persona in America is the typical "gangsta" travesty where everyone walks around thinking they're God on Earth.

  • @llevitron

That's what I was getting at basically on that last part. I am American and I'll admit to that, but I'm not like that, so I could care less about that perception, haha. So we are in agreement on that one. However, how can you say that it isn't genuine of Leary? Did you know him personally before he hit the stage?

  • @SMALegacy05 Of course not... But just the same, how can you really say that it IS genuine of Leary? We're really in the same boat as far as this goes, wouldn't you say? What seals it for me is that back in the late eighties, Bill and Denis were friends. Go type in "Bill Hicks" in Wikipedia and scroll down to "Hicks and Denis Leary"... It's essentially both sides of the story and some other lady's side to it. Honestly, I've yet to see or hear anything viable to the contrary.

  • aggreed it will be like a comedian talking about asians, a bunch of people will complain saying they stole shit from russel peters.

  • @banshee939

nice one genius the reality is the jokes are literally line for line. Changing a few fucking words doesn't make it original. Sadly that just how it is with topics like smoking but a good comic should be able to come up with something original. otherwise he shouldn't be up there

  • ppl like you are the reason some comics never make it, they have material about the same topics as other topics so obviously they're stealing. every subject to talk about has already been touched at one point or another so i s every comic stealing? you make a losing argument unless you say they all are. its about your take on the topic and how you construct and deliver the joke from your own POV. denis leary never stole material from anyone.

  • @banshee939 Fuck, are you an idiot? Leary even stole Hicks' clothes.

The SUBJECTS aren't copyrighted. The wording is. The only thing Leary really did was dumb down Hicks' material so that it was fit for American mainstream audiences.

  • okay assholes lets see you comedy act.and your fucking movies! dumbasses

  • @tacodrill Wow. The perfect idiot's argument.

  • This is the same material he was running in 1990, what a strained try-hard loser. If he hadnt have been so coked up and unable to see beyond his own ego,m he wouldn't have been able to look himself in the face. this material is all stolen. sure, he might be a good comic 'actor' but theres such things as Intellectual Property. He is a cheeky little cock bean in my opinion.

  • 2 more words for the non-smokers-KEITH RICHARDS! And he can AFFORD to smoke 10 packs a day!

  • stolen from hicks?

  • there are only so many premises one can draw from. great stuff!

  • denis leary is great. he touches on the same subjects as bill hicks (who is also very funny) but the joke are different.

  • Umm obviously you have never watched an entire Denis Leary special along with an entire Bill Hicks special. Sure, take some joked out of context and it might look like plagiarism. But if you watch each guys' specials in their ENTIRETY you can clearly tell that while they do touch on a lot of the same issues, the punch lines are different.

  • very true. same topic diff joke. Leary rules.

  • Comment removed

  • @phillyfan345 bullshit i have watched both and leary blatantly steals jokes and ideas for material,as leary said oh actualy as hicks said 1st, whinning fucking maggots !

  • "Shut the fuck up by Dr.Denis Leary!"-Get the hint?

  • Ive never seen this before. Great!

  • Yup, you guessed right. It aired on A&E in 1992, I updated the description. Most of my other vids so far are from around this period as well, though I wasn't absolutely sure so I didn't write anything. Thanks.

  • What year is this? I'm guessing 91-92?

Don't matter, he's still funny as hell anyway!
