Not only that but how else did the people of Madina show joy for his arrival other than to sing in his praise- 'tala al badru alayna' ... O the White Moon rose over us...
Wherever Islam went it did not wipe out people's culture but allowed room for its incorporation and good use to be put as a means of transforming people. What you are seeing is a meeting of Africa and Islam, and the influences of the Arabian peninsular cannot be ignored.
And if every day, why not more so in the blessed month of rabee al awwal that he came upon us. The beautiful spring that revives what has passed into new life. Many of the companions composed poetry in his love, and he used to ask Hassan ibn Thabit to take to the pulpit and recite in his praise! For verily the benefit was for Hassan and a legacy and way to follow was left for all the aashiqeen of the Prophet.
Those that lost their children in war in that time were comforted with the knowledge that the light that walked amongst them, their beloved Mustafa, was well! Allahumma salli alayh! In our time, our equivalent of all these physical altercations that the companions had are to attach ourselves to his sunnah, his seerah and to show gratitude for the favour of his coming to us every day.
