Jones was good when he wanted to be. Otherwise, he's one of the more lazy, undisciplined and talent wasting baseball players I can remember. And I think
he was juicing in the mid '00s when all of a sudden, he had a tremendous power
Andruw had the most put outs for an outfielder for several years. The amazing part is he seldom dived for a ball. Meanwhile, Tori Hunter gettin' accolades on ESPN all the time for making a diving catch. Andruw Jones was always on step better than Tory and everyone else. He never dived for the ball because he did not need to dive. He read the ball off the bat better than anyone else. He was like a hunting dog detecting where the ball was going at the crack of the bat.
@fek2000 nah, he was just a centerfielder. It's hard to maintain being great at center because of the beating and how guys get bigger. He was the best fielding outfielder on the planet for about 8-10 years. His bat really wasn't ever anything too great except for a few years. He was never complete though, either contact at a young age then power older. Maybe one year I think he hit about .303 and had like 27 homers, but really, it was his glove.
Lol Just look at Jeff Francoeur he's like "I know Andruw will catch that so I'll go into the dugout" Andruw Jones is forever an Atlanta Brave. Braves Rule.
I meant to say in either league. As evidence in this clip, Jones is the best the Dodgers have had for a long time. Too bad he will play in L.A. 10 years late and not when he was a rookie.
Damn I'm glad he's going to play for the Dodgers this year. One of the best in the either league, if not the best. Good thing Juan Pierre won't play center for us anymore. =D
Andruw Jones isn't on web gems as often as other centerfielders and that's because he's good enough to make hard catches relatively easy, NOBODY gets better jumps, he's 3/4 of the way to the destination before the ball gets past the SS in the air.
He studies tapes and asks his pitchers how they plan to pitch guys, he's actually underrated.
Damn Right jones makes it look so easy, he hardly needs to dive for a ball. Is not that much about speed out there there are many fielders way faster than jones but cant do what jones does. Is about knowing where the ball is going to go.
I don't know about the greatest, but definitely one of the greatest. It was a very good catch, and I'm glad I caught it on video, but I never thought it was going to be a homer. I did think it might get over his head though.
2 of the best defensive CFers right there (Edmonds and especially Jones.)

You notice how Francour or whoever is in right field already starts walking back towards the dugout before the catch. Andruw used to be GREAT.......

At one time he was the best centerfielder in baseball but he's an early flameout, or maybe he was older than his birth certificate stated????

Andruw Jones is probably one of the greatest center fielders. Amazing glove and hitter. But he's going to need a few more solid seasons with the bat.

Nah, Edmonds is extremely overrated. :P

I call bullshit. He played extremely shallow but still caught everything that wasn't going out. Even some of those he caught.

andrew jones is one of the best centerfielders
to ever play the game. the reason he can track the ball so well is that he can keep his head still while on the run.

Andruw Jones greatest centerfielder of all time. I love the way the crowd thought it was a homerun then Andruw robs Edmonds.
