While I don't agree with the Dragonforce comment, I think what the lad was trying to say was that they're getting some radio play for a genre that is typically ignored in the US. However, they've paved the way for nobody and really have nothing worthwhile to contribute to the genre. I can not stand them myself, but I can see where you could possibly attribute them to opening the door for the mainstream. But let's ask ourselves, do we really want that? I do not. I like our underground army!

By old metal, do you mean metal in which the vocalist actually sings instead of growls, grunts, or screams? This kind ogf metal never went anywhwere, it's just that the dictators of mainstream music have decided that metalcore is "what's in". Personally, I can't stand metalcore, with only a few exceptions, like Trivium for example which is more of a cross-over band from metalcore to thrash.

By mainstream, I mean what is typically played on metal radio stations on XM/Sirius and during MTV's Headbangers Ball. 8 out of 10 videos/songs on those mediums are metal/death core bands. Very few clean vocalist bands being played on those channels.

As for Avenged Sevenfold, that band has always been a poser band. Hell, they basically stole OverKill's skull with batwings symbol for their symbol.
