just finnished the book never heard of it before, its bloody good and it makes me want too fight lol , my dad was a lance copral in the RAF my grandads one was in the trenches one was in the secondwar i ve been living in france since i was 15 and when i was 18 i tried to join the RAF but they said i was no longer a patriot and have to move back to england for 2 years and that did not mean they would take me, i wish i had tried harder now lol , no way i was going to join french airforce lol
The tragedy about Sniper One is that Dan Mills had to tell the story because the Government want to keep it all quiet. British forces are dealing with this stuff as a matter of routine and we nice soft civillians don't need to know. We reallly should give them the equipment they need... .50 cal and continued respect!
my dad was there when this video was filmed he knew with dan mills yet he is in none of these videos. all these videos concentrate on the snipers there was other soldiers there aswell.
I too have viewed this video after reading Sgt Dan Mills' book. I am in awe of what you guys achieved. I will use this video in my science lessons. (When we cover velocity, I use snipers as examples, .308 compared to .50 cal, or working out impact kinetic energy. Much more interesting than balls dropping of ladders!)
When i first read Sniper one, I was AMAZED, and the second time, i was just as amazed! the Sniper Platoon have really showed there worth on that tour, You guys put up with a lot of stuff, and amazingly only lost one guy, and that wasnt due to enemy fire as well. Not many people could stick that out!

The sheer tenacity and discipline of our soldiers is outstanding. I wish I joined up years ago just so I could say I've done my bit but I'll always be a soldier at heart!
Sniper One is an incredible book. Absolute respect to all the soldiers over there. Its a disgrace that weeks go by and there is no media recognition of the job that those guys and gals are still doing in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Totally agree with the majority of sentiments. I have a great respect for UK forces as I come from a family with a strong military history. I could not join because of a hearing problem due to childhood illness. However not sure if I could hack it. Sniper One was lent to me by my son's mate in the Household Cavelry, The professionalism, humour and courage shown by those soldiers in PWR is a great source of inspiration. Especially as it was written without macho chestbeating bullshit. Respect

Id hedge my bets at SBS, the other lad was a royal marine so would make sense to pal up an RM lad with an SBS guy. If he was SAS maybe they would have sent a para sniper??
Possibly, but both regiments are tri-service now anyway so SAS and RM teaming up is possible, and why train someone in aquatic special warfare and underwater combat, diving etc then send them to a desert country ha? waste of money....not saying it's not possible though..
True. You have to remember though that the Royal Marines, although essentially a maritime force, are one of the best at working on land. The final RM test being 30 miles in under 8 hours across dartmoor.... RM have proven themselves in the desert, jungle and arctic id say more than any other conventional british force. RM and SBS are not limited to just waterbourne operations as so many people seem to think ; )

Totally agree with the majority of sentiments. I have a great respect for UK forces as I come from a family with a strong military history. I could not join because of a hearing problem due to childhood illness. However not sure if I could hack it. Sniper One was lent to me by my son's mate in the Household Cavelry, The professionalism, humour and courage shown by those soldiers in PWR is a great source of inspiration. Especially as it was written without macho chestbeating bullshit. Respect

Suprised you guys kept your composure and didn't beat the shit out of each other (besides to the 2 dudes always going at it) must fucking suck getting hit in the head with a pan, better then a fucking Mortar round eh. Faarkin great book, faarkin great clip! The grit shown by Y Regiment gives me all the reasons i need to be proud to be British. I am not a military man but if my tax pounds go towards more green spots for men like this then all i have to say is "Get Those rounds down!!".
Just wondering though, and it is driving me nuts, what Regiment was Buzz in, he obviously had some clout and as he had to leave cimic house in the manner he did, he sounded and read to be a man in demand. Great clip, quality.

Id hedge my bets at SBS, the other lad was a royal marine so would make sense to pal up an RM lad with an SBS guy. If he was SAS maybe they would have sent a para sniper??

Possibly, but both regiments are tri-service now anyway so SAS and RM teaming up is possible, and why train someone in aquatic special warfare and underwater combat, diving etc then send them to a desert country ha? waste of money....not saying it's not possible though..

True. You have to remember though that the Royal Marines, although essentially a maritime force, are one of the best at working on land. The final RM test being 30 miles in under 8 hours across dartmoor.... RM have proven themselves in the desert, jungle and arctic id say more than any other conventional british force. RM and SBS are not limited to just waterbourne operations as so many people seem to think ; )

hello mate, were all on the same side here! sorry that you feel aggrieved,the RWF is a fine Battalion, in which I have several friends, yr Battalion is mentioned in the book, however there is only so much space & cuts had to be made! the book is afterall about the sniper platoon, somethings do get missed out... lots if individuals did good things, if everyone was mentioned the book would have been massive, as it was, cuts had to be made and the main theme wanted was of the Snipers of 1PWRR......

I read the book "Sniper One" by Dan Mills, he was up on the roof of cimic house. I can relate to "RPG Alley", "Sangar", "Pink Palace" and those seemingly horrible conditions the soldiers live in. I couldnd imagine being mortared every day 24/7. Respect.

at the end of the tour A coy rwf were the most decorated unit in the british army no hold on that was 1pwrr in fact pte beharry was rwf ALL the medal winners were rwf a single coy did the lot the pwrr just ate ice cream c coy pwrr didnt suffer 25% casualties in 6 weeks as they never left camp the attached SAXON coy from the rwf did every single patrol were in every contact and got all the gongs the book sniper one is ficton !!sad that ppl want to steal another regiments laurels on fucking utube!

im very aware of how many troops there were at cimic mate i was based there apart from being at abu nadji for op bayswater now and then i spent the rest of it at cimic the dates of this video my entire plt was there as well as a mortar det 2 heavy c/s with their dismounts all pwrr and multiple from the rwf commanded by 2LT stone i think at the end c coy pwrr with 4 cr2 escorts came and did a relief in place EVERYONE left cimic house in warriors,no hold on a min the welsh did it all just 1 coy !!

Awesome video. Great job to everyone that fought at Cimic House. I just finished reading Sgt. Dan Mills book. I couldn't read fast enough when I got to the part about the F-16 dropping the 500 pounder.
Quick question to anyone that was at Cimic House. Did anyone ever figure out who Buzz was? The guy that brought the .50 cal Barrett? Clearly he was somebody. Hitting targets 1,600 meters out and calling in that air strike.

nope the tour lasted nearly 7 months,that was just a bit of the tour,i could quite happily say we were busier than you,although i do respect your warriors for saving our skin a fair few times,you think every single contact over 300 we had they were either on foot or in lannies with nothing but chicken wire protecting us,and the fuckers were so tight they wouldnt even let us go back in the warriors,and no i aint proud of what we went through
