@BronzeProductions even so are normal analog thing. Last week I was driving in my mother's car and the rear left suspension suddenly broke. Everything can brake.
@Yarach Oh, sorry I wasn't going that route. I was saying in less than safe driving conditions, does the suspension inhibit you from feeling the road? Also, giving a person false feedback from their vehicle causing more wrecks or damage to their vehicle.
@BronzeProductions Not really, whole purpose is real time dampening. You can still bottom out like any other suspension system since there obviously only is so much travel for the suspension. Other then that what miscalculations would there be, real time dampening = no dampening adjustment, hence the purpose of this suspension system. Hope that helps?
this could do a full 3d laser scan of the incoming terrain to build a map... so basicly if u brake like an animal over a sidewalk border the senzor will see it coming and raise the wheel and you will keep breaking past it without any damage to your rim/tire
i wonder if they're adjustable from within the car... change your ride height, stiffness, and camber at the press of a button. now that would be awesome
In fact, you might, and pretty soon at that. Dr. Amar Bose is very optimistic about this technology, initially the plans were to introduce this in high end luxury cars by 2009 end. A bit delayed, but this will be reality soon buddy.
However, Citroën has possibly given the idea, since their cars, to the 50s scenario were the best engineer could offer - when subject comes to suspension. I very much admire that company for it.
However, of course this BOSE system looks absolutely incredible.
True, but can you say that every car is inspired by Mercedes-Benz,because they were the first??? Or that every independent suspension is inspired by Peugeot, because they were the ones that invented it and used it for the first time?
this is amazing~! ur not driving anymore, ur floating~!!
It could be a good upgrade for a show car, but might be too much for daily use and too sensitive for a rally competition. Might work for F1, but it still needs to reduce weight
And totally eliminates the need for a variable and adjustable sport/luxury switch setting. Actively dampens constantly, giving an even and smooth ride over bumps, and greater handling through corners. Simply amazing!
Does this platform provides rally/drifting/offroad roughterrain sport handling? B/c the Jaguar Air-suspension and RangeRover Pneumatic do. Of course, most cstomrs aren't concerned w/sporting, but some of us need the stiff or computer chassis for living!
No, seeing as how this is an automotive suspension and not something you can put in your living room and listen to. I don't know much about Bose, but I went to my friend's house and I swear someone was playing guitar, but it was just a Bose radio. Believe it or not, it's actually quality shit.
I think it's generally accepted (well, generally accepted outside the U.S.) that Bose audio is little more than a triumph of marketing, but their suspension rig does seem like genuine innovation.
Mostly because anything sold on TV is generally accepted to be shit here. The last thing I saw was some kind of "amazing" so and so that could be "yours for only 15 payments of $19.99" or whatever. Because Bose was sold through some of those ads, people didn't have as much respect for the product as if they'd stuck to simply TV commercials (instead of ads).
Lotus and GM had this technology working 20 years ago. We'll see if Bose can overcome the issues of weight, cost, power consumption, and reliability, that have kept active suspension out of production cars.
I can hear the Knight Rider music now.... (watch the end and you'll know what I mean - Thanks St. Patguy for that idea.)
This could be the best thing out of Bose since... Well, ever. Oh, and if they treated this like their speakers, it would be made out of cheap, poor performing materials, that would be expensive due to high marketing costs. :p
They have been doing this research since mmm 3 years ago I think, it's great to see some new info on this particular subject. The Audi car in qhich the first test were made didn't jump over obstacles though hehe this is the coolest suspension system I've seen and one of the reasons I got even more excited with my carreer - mecathronics.
Makes sense that bose would do it, they're essentially treating your car like speakers and considering they can reproduce 20khz vibrations at 500w with ridonkulous accuracy...
That's not hydraulic suspension they've got there. At least, not the kind that i'm familiar with. For comparison's sake, go search youtube for "Top Gear" and "Citroen C6". The C6 is a car you can buy right now with a suspension that has proven to work repeatedly. (Saved Charles De Gaulle's life once, in fact!)
Overall, i'm a little nervous about buying a suspension from an audio company whose motto may as well be "Bose: Selling shit to people who don't know any better."
