This is pretty stupid to be honest. If you look both ways and there's no cars coming there's no reason to wait forever for a green light. Besides, its legal for bikes and even motorcycles to do this in many cities.

I bicycle commute and often need to stop, look, and then proceed thru the red light because I cannot set off the sensor. Please don't be so quick to condemn cyclists that do this safely.

I sympathize with your point here; As a bike commuter myself, I know that many cycling laws conflict each other and that every municipality has its own rules and situations. This PSA was created for a New York City organization, and there are no sensor-controlled traffic signals here in Manhattan; all the lights are timed. Especially with poor line-of-sight at city intersections and many speeding vehicles, the idea here was that he looked, didn't see a car coming, and figured he was safe.

Correlation does not equal causation. You need to research WHY there appears to be a correlation between stopping at red lights and a higher death rate. My guess is that women are more likely to stop in the driver's blind spot.
