Car sounds pretty good from what I can hear from the camera. Only change I'd make is getting a buddy to hold the camera for you so you don't have to fiddle around with it while driving.
Have you noticed any issues with the car running rich after a shift due to the BOV? I've been debating weather to get a BOV as opposed to a 100% BPV for my 2011 MS3 but will probably just get one of the kits that are switchable despite the extra cost.
read the other comments - this setup was what i ran when i first got the car - i took off all these parts and went with all cpe parts - running catless on the stock turbo is a mistake for this car - and yeah the less you recirc the more unburnt fuel will be in your exhaust between shifts (causing backfires) - because the injectors still spray in anticipation of the recircd air - join mazda speed forums.org and read - any/all info you want is there...
i like the gauges to on the side like that but in this car i wouldnt do it because of the air bags, i would put them in the center right above radio and ac display. other than that nice car man!
i've gotten rid of them since this anyway, but like i said in the lower comments - the airbag doesn't come out of there - that's just where the little sign is for it - it comes out of the area over the actual window - where your head is - the bag is stored in there, but it doesn't come out there
like ur setup i think theres a way u can shut the pillar off or actually remove the pillars air bag not saying its the smartest thing but i think u can do it . I LOVE this car. can't wait to get more mods for mine definitely keepin this vid in mind but might go wit cobb DP
thanks - like i said it's not really a big deal because the bag comes out of the top of the piller and deploys above the window where your head is - cobb and cpe both make a nice dp - i really like the txs too - the only draw back is the connection at the mid pipe - cobb & cpe don't have that connection - they are solid all the way back to the rest of the exhaust
you know if you do a little research you get an image of what the airbag looks like on mazda's website right? and if you would do that you would also know it's curtain airbag that just deploys from inside the a-piller and actually comes to cover the top part of the window - when it deploys the hard plastic never moves - just because there's a little airbag symbol there doesn't mean it's going to explode in your face
if you just pull the insulation back our of there you can see that the airbag only sets in there by about 2 inches - what's dangerous is driving this car w/out seeing your boost on it's crappy factory control
15.5 but with the stock bleed off type boost control it's all over the place - it can spike to 19 level off at 15 or so and taper off to like 13 but the time you are ready to shift
i have never had it on a dyno - dyno time is too expensive - i'm trying to acquire all the bolt on's i want along w/ my tuning - install them all at once and head to the dyno - this defective pcv system/smoking issue has put a hold on my plans for the most part though...
there are clips that allow you to clip it on - but i just used 2 screws with little covers - only a bit of the airbag is in the pod - you can see it if you take off the weather stripping - it's no concern it deploys by your head - you just have watch where the bag is and use small screws
WOW looks like shit in your car.

you know you have a pillar airbag right?
It is a sweet set-up, but it will be thrown in your face if you crash

Cool, who makes the pillar pod cluster? Also did you follow any particular "how to" or did you just install it from experience?
I'll be doing my first install of gauges and was hoping to follow someone else's example.
abysal311 2 years ago
pretty cool, how was the side gauge cluster install? did you have to do anything with the side air bag?
