Its terrible what this boy had to go through those people should be ashamed of themselves making a 13 year old eat lunch alone, using a seperate bathroom, amd calling him names!!! Hope those ignorant pieces of shit never forgive themselves!!! RIP Ryan White you were a very courageous boy to stand up for what is right its sad that you had to die. Hope you are with Michael in heaven. :)
Sorry, but fuck that I remember when AIDS was "new" and not fully understood. It's easy to indict in hindsight, but lets make a comparison. Say that next year, 2012, a new and hence incurable communicable disease arises that eats away your liver. Science has some broad ideas about how it's transmitted but isn't certain. One thing's for sure- it IS transmissible. Some kid at your child's school has it. Are you going to let your kid use that bathroom?
@ChicagoScrapper All i know is the doctors said to people it cant be caught through regular contact. They knew that back then. Also his mom and sister lived in the same house as him and never caught it. that should have been enough proof for those ignorant people. Their were no excuses for they way he was treated by the kids and shockingly the adults.
Towards the end of his life, science was reasonably sure that it couldn't be transmitted through casual contact, but we're talking a year or two removed from a time when science WAS NOT TOTALLY SURE how it was transmitted... The public has since learned the truth but in the 1980's, there was a lot of legit uncertainty about AIDS. I don't think it's fair to condemn people for reacting cautiously to an unknown, BRAND NEW, 100% fatal communicable disease.
I have the people magazine from April1990 in plastic, I was 16 years old when he died, I remember him very well as i live in Illinois his story was huge then. Very grateful that I am encouraged to live in the era he was alive, wish one day to take my daughter to visit his grave, and visit the museum. God gave you a purpose and you fulfilled it, now your in paradise resting with our Lord Jesus, and thank you jeanne white your an amazing mother.
He was an amazing person. Most people who were treated as he was in Kokomo would not have the guts to go to school even if they had to, and he fought like hell to get back in. Some people don't see how much strength of character that takes. He was cute too. I wish I'd gotten the chance to know him.
I've never forgotten him. I saw this movie in school when I was younger. I'be been tested just because. I am happy to say, I do not have this.. RIP Ryan White!
i wrote to Ryan's mother after his death. She sent me a picture, and a letter saying thank you. Love you Ryan. You had a mission from GOD. Thank you for fullfilling it. Thanks for uploading!
