I think everyone is being a little overly critical. It sounded to me like a general statement of basic firearms readiness. You all realize that this is just a tv show and not meant to be a reenactment of real life events. No the Glock has no manual safety but there was also a Mossberg pump shotgun which does have a safety and nobody seemed to care to mention that gun. Just watch the show and enjoy.

As for the fail issue here, it occurs when the guy appears to toggle what is merely the slide release on the left side of the pistol. However, they decided to put a clicking noise in post production making it look as if he was actually toggling it.

His chamber check was sliding the rear slightly to view the brass, which is standard for most pistols. Many Pistols have a safety switch on the left side forward of the grip. The show didn't Identify what kind of weapon it was, or get close enough to it to see it.

@TheBooban I think the problem here is the issue of the Glock not having a safety in the traditional sense most people think of when dealing with semi-auto pistols. Most semi-auto pistols do in fact have a "safety" that can be toggled in some fashion. The Glock does not have such a safety mechanism most people are referring to here. I believe that is what those of us who really know this particular brand are saying is the issue here. There is no safety, at least not on the side as implied here.

I don't see the point in telling me that a short barrel variant of the 550 is used by DEA and by special forces groups. Virtually any firearm that can have non automatic variant manufactured can be purchased in the United States. Just because some military or paramilitary group somewhere has adopted it doesn't make it a gun civilians shouldn't have. Though with the 551 the barrel is too short for most people to legally own
. Short barrels are NFA Class 3 weapons, you have to go through a lot of rigamarole to own them, same with suppressors and pre 1986 automatic weapons.

His chamber check was sliding the rear slightly to view the brass, which is standard for most pistols. Many Pistols have a safety switch on the left side forward of the grip. The show didn't Identify what kind of weapon it was, or get close enough to it to see it.

Nah, most of our (extremely large) prison populace is in for smaller petty crimes, mostly drug possession charges, according to the US Prison Board Review of 2010. A much smaller percent are in for violent crime, and even fewer in for gun crimes. As for groups patrolling the border, yes, but that's a govt. run organization, not vigilante. I'm sure there are some, but most are govt operated.

I have been to America many times and it is a different country with many cultures mixed together but their constitution says they can have guns. And of course it means for protection but there are far more people in America than in the UK. @TheBooban I think the problem here is the issue of the Glock not having a safety in the traditional sense most people think of when dealing with semi-auto pistols. Most semi-auto pistols do in fact have a "safety" that can be toggled in some fashion. The Glock does not have such a safety mechanism most people are referring to here. I believe that is what those of us who really know this particular brand are saying is the issue here. There is no safety, at least not on the side as implied here.

@TheBooban Yes, Glock does tout the trigger thingy as a safety feature but it isn't the kind of mechanism that can be toggled on or off the way other pistol models can be actuated, and it certainly isn't the kind of safety feature one has to ever check to make sure it is engaged or whatever. It is simply one of those automatic features that just does it's thing on it's own when you put your finger on the trigger. Not exactly a safety in the traditional sense.

I don't see the point in telling me that a short barrel variant of the 550 is used by DEA and by special forces groups. Virtually any firearm that can have non automatic variant manufactured can be purchased in the United States. Just because some military or paramilitary group somewhere has adopted it doesn't make it a gun civilians shouldn't have. Though with the 551 the barrel is too short for most people to legally own
