LOL, I think Dave benoit(singer) is having a great time up there, especialy in the beginning. I saw yes live in grand rappids when i was 13. now im 14. I mean,,,Chris squier called Benoit after seing him from a youtube video. How shocked would you be if some one amazing like squier called you up?
Tekman, you got that right. I hope they play a lot of Drama on the upcoming tour. Since Horn is producing and doing some back up on the DRAMAtic new album and Downes is back, Horn has definitely given Benoit David thumbs way up for singing hos songs. Drama was one of my favorites and I'm glad they're finally follwing it up.
Oh man.......this Yes sound is dynamic, I love it....I agree with the other comments about Oliver. He is a great keyboard player but I don't think his heart was fully into the Yes sound and you can tell in the way it was performed! Geoff Downes is another story......this guy is very creative and innovative in every way. As a writer and performer.....He is the keyboard wizard to take Yes forwards with Benoit David. Trevor Horn is a brilliant and creative producer & player aswell. What a line up..
Nice to see them performing this song live again. With Geoff Downes back in the fold it's easy to see why I suppose. Interesting to see Canadian vocalist Benoit David covering a song that was originally sang by Trevor Horn (Yes-Drama)...Benoit does a pretty good Jon Anderson as well :)
@whiterobin as i am only young i would go against you, this is the yes i have been brought up with now! i do listen to other music to... i also understand your opinion, but to me this yes is great.
@whiterobin they are not a cover band! chris squire is still there, he was the founder of the original band!! then he asked jon to join the band, and what drummer doesnt break into a sweat after 2 numbers.... there is the lighting down on him, drummer moves most of his upper body and the slight nerve of plaing in front of 1,500 to 2,500 people... just stop your argument!!
@whiterobin if this is a "sucky" band then why did you use to like them. its a change in singer and keyboardist. nhot change in the music. your sad by swearing all the time. this is real music!!! your sad. this line up is great. your a "sucky" guy who cant handle a band that in your opinion is now shit. and in your spare time slag yes off. end of! they still have a massive fan base.
@whiterobin is that all you can do, is swear! i bet you are actually a little kid! if your not, then grow up. yes have changed their line up all the time! its music!
@whiterobin so why watch clips of yes in their recent line up if all you can do is complain, and whats with the swearing, are you some angry little kid?
@whiterobin i have listened to early stuff live, and yes it was good, but times change, and yes fans should be happy that a yes is still playing!!, have you seen this line up live... if not, dont say things like what you said. this yes line up is great, they are in their 60s, apart from benoit and oliver, and manage to still make music. your just a jon anderson fan boy who doesnt understand change!!!
Something is not right here. Where's the frantic energy? This song is supposed to be a "ripper", but it seems to just lay flat. A shame to see Chris Squire is such terrible shape.
Rush has only three guys, Yes has always had at least one keyboard player and sometimes two guitarists. It is more difficult to keep a line up. It is amazing they do what they do for so long, and with neat sound of a keyboard involved.
I was at this show right up front. Seen YES 15 times since 76. Steve, Alan and chris were good as usual. Oliver looks like his dad but doesn't come close to his playing ability. The dude singing was good but didn't have the soul and presence of Jon. Basically they were a really good cover band.
Great version. I love drama. Listened to it a lot in my early 20s. David does the Horn stuff so well! I hear they are going to tackle We Can Fly From Here on the new record coming out this year, with none other than Sir Trevor producing it! Exciting news!
Excellent song, it reminds of The Police when the first verse starts, typical style of the early 80`s.
I saw Yes yesterday and thought it was awesome, I was very surprised. Lots of comments I`ve read weren`t positive but that`s because those people wanted Jon in the band, and I completely understand but Benoit did a good job and the band sounds very powerful and dynamic.
@Delgift Yeah... So, how was the concert in BsAs? I live in Brazil and went to Columbus just to see them play live. Now they are coming to town and I'll go see them again on the 28th!
@ricardomt Are you going to see them again ? If I find a companion I`ll go back as well.
The concert was surpising to me, in a very good way. I never thought Yes could sound so heavy live. Besides Steve & Chris are very charismatic, the whole band did a wonderful job but both of them stood out. ; )
Let's face it folks, Yes has had MANY lineup changes over the years. The only member in every lineup has been Chris Squire. I must say, Benoit covers Trevor Horn better than he covers Jon Anderson. Also, I'd bet Squire, Howe & White were glad to finally be able to play some 'Drama' material live, since Jon would not agree to. Many will disagree with me, but IMO 'Drama' has some of Howe & Squires best material on it. Did they play 'Does it Really Happen' on this tour?
That HAS to be young Master Wakeman on the keyboards....looks just like his Father, Rick, when he was young! :) Cooool...takes me back to the early 70's when I first saw them live and Rick with that flashy, glittery robe he used to wear back then. I saw someone jump up on the stage, snatch off that robe while he was playing but security was ALL OVER that joker and got the robe almost as quickly as he snatched it. lol Great times!
Despite the unhappiness about not having only members from the prime recording era (or at least Jon singing), I'm happy that someone is doing the material and playing live, and extremely happy that it has 3 of the 5 main members who created the oeuvre that is YES. 25 years from now, there may be virtually no one left due simply to longevity and this video will be a treasure at that point.
Just saw Steve Howe with Asia Friday night. Sounded great. I brought my 13 year old son who just got a guitar for his birthday so he could see one of the best. I had hoped they would have played this song on the 2007 tour since Geoff Downes was the original keyboardist but, they played video killed the radio star instead, DOH! They did all Asia songs this time.
@Flyfromhere2011 Yeah! Just went to an ASIA concert here in Brazil last Sunday and Geoff is definitely going to be an upgrade to this lineup! Thumbs up!
@ricardomt Geoff is a great keyboardist and I'm excited about the new album. Jon will be missed but Chris, Steve and Alan are all good writers so I'm sure they'll do fine.
Ya know I can't understand what Jon Anderson hated about this... yeah its essentially the Buggles, and overall the album almost killed the band (as a followup to that ghastly Tormato thingamy... ), but theres shiney bits of gold in the drama that was Drama... this was one of them.
They had to wait since the 1981 tour to play this song live. Anderson wouldn't play anything off of Drama. Now that he's not performing with Yes, they can play the songs again!
No Jon Anderson no Yes? You want some cheese with that whine? I love Jon and Rick, but this sounds fantastic, I'm seeing them live tomorrow in Cleveland, can't wait.
I absolutely loved DRAMA, and I am so happy that they are performing songs from this much under-appreciated album. I missed the original tour here in Montreal because my favorite band QUEEN performed on the following night and I could only afford to go to one concert. Thankfully, my financial situation has much improved over the years. lol
Just like any band thats been around for 40 years its kinda hard to keep to favorites or originals together consistantly. Its in the spirit of yeas and as much as jon anderson is the voice of yes i would have to say that you could not be more wrong! This is yes 100%, or are you deaf?
I'm sorely pissed off that I haven't seen this lineup live yet...because I've been praying for Drama material since I've become a fan (almost twelve years now.)
Singer is pretty good. But he adds a gay, and wimpy flavor to the band. Tempis is played too slow here. Its supposed to be fast and fusion like. Still not bad for old guys. HAHA.
There have been 3 lead guitarists, 4 keyboard players, 2 drummers and 2 lead singers. So tell me. What is Yes? With Yes It is more about the people who are there at that time. So I guess we can say 3 lead singers and 5 keyboard plays.
I am happy that I can take my kids and share music that I love.
@bluejfk - Actually there have been 6 keyboardists (Kaye, R Wakeman, Moraz, Downes, Khorshev, O Wakeman) and 4 guitarists (Banks, Howe, Rabin, Sherwood). I agree with your post 100%, I just don't want to leave anybody out! lol
Yeah,at last they play this song!In Japan, they've played this song without Jon(I think jon doesn't like this song).Sound chaiser is fast tune too ,but I like this song much more.
IF you are a Yes Fan you would like the music to live on.
We all love Jon and are aware of wot he means to yes and wot he did, but sooner or later will come the day where all present members wont be able to play anymore...
... it's like Rick said back in 1991... a Yes in existence...
Loosen up folks - OF COURSE it is still yes
"Music, music... it's the music..." (Jon Anderson, 1989 live ABWH)
How can he be his own person when he's being paid handsomely to sound exactly like Jon? They found him in a tribute band--that's what tribute bands do--copy the look and sound of the ones they emulate; Seems simple and inoffensive to me.
Ok but if they found him like that, at least he garantees high devotion and love to the band's music, left aside the money thing. I don't like the band move in itself, but I aknowledge that Benoit sounds great, so five stars to him.
Benoit will probably just be himself in the future--the plan is for a new album in 2010, and Benoit and Oliver are most likely going to be doing it. Even on the official Yes website they are listed as members and Jon is an "alumnus".
Tempus Fugit was actually sung by Trevor Horn ack in 1980 on the Drama album. Jon's rendition might have sounded better but it's hard to tell considering he didn't sing any of the songs from that album. Not even in concert I don't think.
i like this guy, benoit david... i'd like to see a Yes album with him. Yes is ready for a mostly instrumental album , and this guy would probably let them get away with it.
Great picture & sound on your recordings! Thanks ever so much. Now when someone asks me if they can still cut it live I can just send them here. Wish I could have done something like this at the Cincinnati show last night. Thanks again. :)
Excellent capture ricardomt!! Best visual and audio I've seen on Youtube..Thanks to you and the others who take their time to download for all our enjoyment.
Great posting, man. I was at this show! In the balcony on Steve Howe's side of the stage. I'm a big fan of the Drama album, but was too young to see that tour, so it was cool to finaly see a few of those songs played live. Did you record Machine Messiah?
Thanks, dude! Unfortunately, I didn't record Machine Messiah. My camcorder is pretty nice, but the battery life is not that great. I had to skip several songs! :(
This video amazes me. Steve Howe is old enough to fart dust, Squire's bass is well supported by the old table muscle and Benoit voice all work!

does this new French-Canadian fucker have to DRESS like Jon too ???? For fuck sake !!

Would you rather have him dress like Angus Young? Who cares dude....

he should be his own (fucking) person.....not emulate Jon !!
getchasumm 3 years ago
How can he be his own person when he's being paid handsomely to sound exactly like Jon? They found him in a tribute band--that's what tribute bands do--copy the look and sound of the ones they emulate; Seems simple and inoffensive to me.
cubfever7 3 years ago
Ok but if they found him like that, at least he garantees high devotion and love to the band's music, left aside the money thing. I don't like the band move in itself, but I aknowledge that Benoit sounds great, so five stars to him.
Ah! his haircut is Jon's 90125 era.
alberticko 2 years ago

Saw Yes last night, been a LONG time fan, great night, great setlist, it's nice to see them finally able to play the Drama album!

Great posting, man. I was at this show! In the balcony on Steve Howe's side of the stage. I'm a big fan of the Drama album, but was too young to see that tour, so it was cool to finaly see a few of those songs played live. Did you record Machine Messiah?
swinedog712 3 years ago
Thanks, dude! Unfortunately, I didn't record Machine Messiah. My camcorder is pretty nice, but the battery life is not that great. I had to skip several songs! :(

Going to see them tonight-can't wait!
