Some actors are really talented just like Einstien or Mozart and the other category is like Jersey Shore, bacherlotte etc. that is the height of stupidity.
I love De Niro - he is so right. This bullshit interviews are for nothing, he acts, he gets paid, if he is good, he gets more roles, if not, he doesn't. He is right.
i know alot of people were saying that they were boring but iv'e never been bored watching an interview of dustin hoffman or robert deniro, i seriously blame letterman here, once you get him off script he sucks

hahaha lmao!! De Niro and Hoffman at their best! Letterman needs to be screwed with every now and then to bring him down the obnoxious ladder a few notches. Nicely done gentlemen. Also, I love Hoffman's laugh!!!
No I don't think that's the case. De niro is notorious for being a very poor interview. He just doesn't like audiences. Uk Film critic Barry Norman once described ' De niro as the most arrogant man he ever met, after he took a long time to show up, then was completely uninterested in the interview.
I read once that he envied Hoffman's extrovert personality.
Letterman got de niro offside immediately by sticking it to him for never being on his show, from that moment on you could tell de niro just wanted to get out of there he wanted nothing to do with letterman.

Same can be said of Pacino. It's no longer legit to suggest that he can look down upon the "Celebrity bullshit" bc he is an "actor." He's clearly not.
any questions related to The Method i.e. questions about their process as an actor, questions about Brando and Dean, they remain quiet. Almost like they refuse to answer them....interesting

Can't stand seeing so many people feel compelled to defend De Niro. Indeed, he is a highly accomplished actor. But, you don't achieve that level of fame without a larger than life persona. I have never met the man, but I am willing to bet that he can more than take care of himself. If he is quiet, it is because he doesn't care to stand up for himself. He does not feel threatened or bullied by anyone on that show. He could care less. And remember, this is TV. Well choreographed and rehearsed....
@alfadlo91 Totally agree. Both Hoffman and De Niro are A-C-T-O-R-S....that's what they do. The way I see this is De Niro having fun in his own quiet real-world way; this guy is made in the world, what is there left for him to prove. An actor of the caliber of De Niro more than knows what to expect from a show like Letterman.
I totally respect De Niro as one of the greatest actors, but he really deserved Letterman's mocking here.. I mean he was never really into the program, it was all Dustin show :))
obviously deniro wasn't on letterman for those 30 years because letterman is a dillhole and a bully. and deniro is here now as a favour to his dear friend hoffman.
and letterman knows it.
and then the bully does what the bully does best.
SIMPLE THING: hoffman is an extrovert and deniro is an introvert.
thats all. please stop picking on deniro guys. only people with shyness can understand him. and please judge him or anyone by his work, not the way he socially behaves, it hardly matters. i see lot actors do great socially but actually they are lieing n suck at their work. i'd encourage people more to be themselves, rather than being clones of each other n making same old jokes by being fake!
@hanger55 Okay, Deniro's cushion does sink, but maybe he weighs more? (obviously he does, imdb says he's 10 cm taller than Hoffman) I don't know, it just seems so... I mean imagine Hoffman calling Letterman saying "okay, I will come, but make sure I won't look shorter than Bob"...
Wow, I actually thought DeNiro was older than Hoffman and they were only kidding around, but it turns out Hoffman is 73 and DeNiro is 67... Hoffman looks so laidback here, I'd give him 67 and 73 to DeNiro...
Look at Dustin Hoffman's seat cushion and look at DeNiro's. Hoffman is very short in real life, so I wonder if requested a seat supporter or firmer seat so that he would look about the same height as DeNiro.
@hanger55 What are you talking about? Rewind the video to the bit where they come onto the stage and compare the two seats. The cushions are both exactly the same.
I don't think Robert DeNiro is boring; rather, I think that DeNiro is entirely less interested in David Letterman than David Letterman is interested in David Letterman. I think labeling him as boring is inaccurate.
It did seemed to me Letterman's ego is genuinely hurt by De Niro never being on his show. After all, he's the one and only David Letterman. How could anyone have the nerve to decline his invitation?
After David got it off his chest -- it seemed like a pretty funny, lighthearted interview. Why on earth would De Niro be angry?
I love this interview. Just great. All you Letterman bashers out there, he did the best of this interview and I bet everyone there just took it for what it was and enjoyed it. Why would De Niro be upset by anything? Honestly, I don't think he care.
Or just maybe, DeNiro knows he has a reputation for being a difficult in interviews, but also has a fantastic dry wit and sense of humour, and is just playing along with the whole thing. Besides which, they are all probably good mates. He's an actor you fuckin' morons! And that, is class showbusiness.
Fuck Letterman, DeNiro didn't deserve that shit, he's one of the best actors I've ever witnessed in the movie business and didn't deserve this shit from this schmuck
Could it be that Deniro has a problem with speaking in front of a crowd, or maybe he's shy...cause honestly the way he mumbles and dosen't look anyone in the eye is kinda suspicious
DeNiro is awesome. Obviously, interviews are not his thing, but acting is. If only ALL actors and athletes would keep their commentary to their art like Mr. DeNiro. DeNiro obviously does not chase the spotlight except through his great acting, and I respect him for that.
I wonder if De Niro is just such a genius that pretentious 'here, analyze this' questions are so naive and boring that he'd feel like a showbiz bitch if he tried to answer them. So he doesn't try.
Or maybe he really is just slow/shy/introverted/reserved/proud/whatever.
In either case, despite his wit, Letterman doesn't seem too skilled in creating rapport with his guests.
Hoffman convinced De Niro to come on the show. De Niro agreed only if Hoffman showed up with him. If Hoffman wasn't there, just imagine the interview; it would be incredibly dull mainly because De Niro, as great of an actor that he is, simply struggles to answer questions. Thinking on the spot is something that doesn't come naturally to him and so he's left forcing out general answers. Perfect example is his answer to Letterman's question 7:41.
I love all the butt hurt De Niro fans in these comments. De Niro is a notoriously shitty interview, Dave is clearly trying to make the most of what would otherwise most assuredly be another snooze fest like of Robert's appearances.
Also, stop acting like De Niro is soo hurt from Letterman's jokes. IT'S FUCKING DE NIRO, you think anything anybody says about him matters? He is an adult.
De Niro should have stayed at home. He knew he was going to be in a TALK-Show. So what is use in defending him here. If he wants to keep silent why did he go at all.
Everyone expects De Niro to be this extravert, loud, talkative person because of the characters he plays. Which is a beautifull testiment to De Niro. The fact he is such an opposite to the characters he potrays really does prove that he is the greatest actor of all time.
The audience don't help with the awkwardness of the interview, they can't stop fucking laughing at every single sentence!!! For fuck's sake guys, take some valium and RELAX!!!!! Letterman - "The sky is blue and the grass is green", Audience - " Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!!!
The audience are really annoying, so is letterman. They keep laughing their asses off and Letterman has the most annoying laugh. What's so funny guys?!!!

I find Letterman's style can be quite annoying and I think that Mr Deniro shares the same opinion.

I find Letterman's style can be quite annoying and I think that Mr Deniro shares the same opinion. Letterman just has to make everything a joke.
A. De Niro, Hoffman, and Letterman most likely set this up as a gag since De Niro is known for being a man of few words.
B. De Niro is a grown man and can stand up for himself and he seems to have a great sense of humor and is able to laugh at himself.
C. Again, he's DE NIRO!!!! 'Nuff said!!! He can take care of himself, so stop feeling sorry for him or angry at Letterman, and see it for the comedy that it is. Giving monosyllabic answers is his way of getting back at Dave. Get it? ;)
Letterman is an idiot here. Instead of doing the best to make De Niro comfortable and maybe having him again on the show he makes it a nightmare for him and frankly most people would not enjoy having one of their favourite actors attacked so it makes it uninteresting to watch. It's not like De Niro has been avoiding him and only him in particular. He doesn't appear on any of the shows. In fact he is making a gesture here by appearing but I guess Letterman can't see that deep...
I think that De Niro is an introvert. Introverts can find small talk tiring – and sometimes boring. The guy probably just wanted to go home and Dave Letterman can be extremely annoying and what's with his stupid fake laugh all the time.
I saw a re-run tonight. Absolutely LOVE DeNiro and Hoffman as well. DeNiro doesn't come on these things because he either hates them or has a phobia or both. Not sure why the industry folks make him do it. It's never a good thing. I think Letterman tried to make a very awkward situation better, but it turned into him reading out the names of their movies and just more clapping from the audience. And, hey, Dustin: I really LIKED ISHTAR!! Most people were just too stupid to get the humor.
This whole setting is not right...a mean to start with, the guests cant even c the damn interviewer...untill they turn thr necks what 90 degrees which is very uncomfortable...thr shud be eye contact to feed off each others reactions...and when u interview an introvert person like bobby, the interviewers role is bigger, which is to make him feel comfortable, and feed him questions upon which the conversation can continue, cos he sure as hell wont start a conversation with u..
DeNiro is not payed to talk he is payed to act. If you want to hear a good interview get the one from The Actors Studio This interview is funny it made David work which is good he has gotten lazy
I don't like how they keep making fun of DeNiro, makes me feel uncomfortable watching. He's an actor first and foremost, and needless to say he is one of the best (for me he is THE best), and that's all that really matters. He obviously isn't the most extroverted type and he doesn't have to be, and laughing at him won't make the situation easier for him or make him relax.... anyway, I'm really happy to see him, unfortunately you don't see him giving interviews too often!
@ababayo358 You do realise they do the preinterview ,about how its gonna go, its suposed to be like this becouse they know how to play it it seems like he is a victimized or something, but he is shy as hell :D
@ababayo358 you're right. letterman tried to quell it a little bit, don't you think? i don't always like him but i think this interview was one of his better moments. de niro really hates being interviewed
@ababayo358 I didn't see that at all.All i saw was DeNiro being DeNiro. If you were 68 years old and a living legend, what the heck do you have to prove.....answer,not a damn thing.I thought this interview was pure gold and both Hoffman and DeNiro came up with this just to screw with Letterman.
@ababayo358 give me a fucking break, he's obviously got nothing against it, just look at how he's having the entire crowd laugh with little to no effort
If you made fun of how bad Tiger Woods is on golf, would Tiger cares? No.
If you told jokes about MJ....Michael Jordan missing many baskets, would MJ mind? Of course not.
Deniro is as big as Madonna, he can handle some jokes. Note that besides the JFK moment, he laughs the entire time. Trust me, he is OK, and yes, he is one the best actors ever. Watch The Fockers and you will see whay they were acting this way on the show. :) Peace.
Good lord, guys, these three are just acting. It's three legends of the entertainment industry and everyone of them is doing the best he can. As Dustin says at the end - talking to two of the most esteemed actors of all times without them saying one single thing is pretty much the hardest you can get as a talk-show host.

@misztong Look at when they sity down. Dustin's doesn't move at all, and DeNiro's completely sinks down.
hanger55 9 months ago
@hanger55 Okay, Deniro's cushion does sink, but maybe he weighs more? (obviously he does, imdb says he's 10 cm taller than Hoffman) I don't know, it just seems so... I mean imagine Hoffman calling Letterman saying "okay, I will come, but make sure I won't look shorter than Bob"...
misztong 9 months ago
Wow, I actually thought DeNiro was older than Hoffman and they were only kidding around, but it turns out Hoffman is 73 and DeNiro is 67... Hoffman looks so laidback here, I'd give him 67 and 73 to DeNiro...
misztong 9 months ago
Look at Dustin Hoffman's seat cushion and look at DeNiro's. Hoffman is very short in real life, so I wonder if requested a seat supporter or firmer seat so that he would look about the same height as DeNiro.
hanger55 9 months ago

VicenzoV 10 months ago
I love this interview. Just great. All you Letterman bashers out there, he did the best of this interview and I bet everyone there just took it for what it was and enjoyed it. Why would De Niro be upset by anything? Honestly, I don't think he care.

I swear,I thought that the whole first part of the interview would be of people applauding!!!!It was hilarious!!

Or just maybe, DeNiro knows he has a reputation for being a difficult in interviews, but also has a fantastic dry wit and sense of humour, and is just playing along with the whole thing. Besides which, they are all probably good mates. He's an actor you fuckin' morons! And that, is class showbusiness.
zuss10r 10 months ago 2
Fuck Letterman, DeNiro didn't deserve that shit, he's one of the best actors I've ever witnessed in the movie business and didn't deserve this shit from this schmuck
MrMayonnaise999 11 months ago
Could it be that Deniro has a problem with speaking in front of a crowd, or maybe he's shy...cause honestly the way he mumbles and dosen't look anyone in the eye is kinda suspicious

CheshCat1124 11 months ago
DeNiro is awesome. Obviously, interviews are not his thing, but acting is. If only ALL actors and athletes would keep their commentary to their art like Mr. DeNiro. DeNiro obviously does not chase the spotlight except through his great acting, and I respect him for that.
joelpaulsero 11 months ago
I wonder if De Niro is just such a genius that pretentious 'here, analyze this' questions are so naive and boring that he'd feel like a showbiz bitch if he tried to answer them. So he doesn't try.
Or maybe he really is just slow/shy/introverted/reserved/proud/whatever.
In either case, despite his wit, Letterman doesn't seem too skilled in creating rapport with his guests.
larauc 11 months ago
who the fuck do they think they're talking to?
Yajirobi 1 year ago 3

If he wants to keep silent why did he go at all.
gillan5 1 year ago
Everyone expects De Niro to be this extravert, loud, talkative person because of the characters he plays. Which is a beautifull testiment to De Niro. The fact he is such an opposite to the characters he potrays really does prove that he is the greatest actor of all time.

DeNiro is so fucking legit, he doesnt need dave's apreciation or his friendship for anything, he is just being himself.
PD: i think he got disengaged when they started making fun of his bobby kennedy sory.

Letterman - "The sky is blue and the grass is green", Audience - " Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!!!

Get it? ;)
bleachgirlish 1 year ago
Letterman is an idiot here. Instead of doing the best to make De Niro comfortable and maybe having him again on the show he makes it a nightmare for him and frankly most people would not enjoy having one of their favourite actors attacked so it makes it uninteresting to watch. It's not like De Niro has been avoiding him and only him in particular. He doesn't appear on any of the shows. In fact he is making a gesture here by appearing but I guess Letterman can't see that deep...
kotapaka 1 year ago
De Niro is known for not wanting to give in interview..Totall respect.
Hell..he is one of the finest actors of his generation and my idol.
So why does he have to pretend to be enthusiastic with Letterman?
His work stands for itself and that is sure as hell enough for me

:) Peace.

@vicalm007 Madonna is not nearly as big as De Niro. She will be forgotten in the decades to come, De Niro not.

Good lord, guys, these three are just acting. It's three legends of the entertainment industry and everyone of them is doing the best he can. As Dustin says at the end - talking to two of the most esteemed actors of all times without them saying one single thing is pretty much the hardest you can get as a talk-show host.
TheDolph100 1 year ago
De Niro just is not a big talker. He's uncomfortable without a script. The same thing about Pacino.
