I've read a lot but not all the comments on this thread about RX9.

My dad used to have excactly the same model.

This car is the same car with Mazda's 929 L '82-'84 model. The difference from 929 L is that RX9 was powered by a rotary engine, the same that RX7 of '79 up to '83 model used.

It was sold as RX9 in New Zealand, maybe in Australlia but I'm not sure and in Greece.

Nice find. This car was known as the 1977 Mark 3 or the Mazda Luce Legato or Mazda 929, and when it had the 12A rotary engine its know as the Mazda Cosmo or the Mazda RX9. it had 12A engine or 13B option. this was a luxury family sedan back in 1977 thru 1981.

That's nothing, I have a Mashda RX-12. It has the new 3liter Square Rotor Engine. The extra side helps it make 1000hp. It has also abandon the conventional Front-Drive, or Rear Drive layout in favor of a Left-Drive, setup. The front and rear left wheels deliver power to move the drivers fatass around more efficiently.

yea man it didnt start @ 7....rx stands for rotary experiment...so rx7 was the 7th experiment car and it got perfected and thr rx7's all gens became famous. im a proud owner of a 88FC (2nd gen) and a 95FD (3rd gen) i have much love and respect for the 2,3,4,5,'s.

they were are known as

"luce" pronounced (lu-che) and 929's these had the piston or disel engines..and the RX-9's had the rotary

i.e "RX" stands for Rotary expierament..

hence rx 1-9 ..

there is no RX-9, there is currently an RX-8 which has a RENESIS engine which is a combination of the words rotary and genesis. the RX-7's had rotary engines, they may have called them RX for rotary experiment but not anymore. and RX 1-9? what do you mean? they started at RX-7, generation one, then went to RX-7 generation 2 then RX-7 generation 3, then the RX-8, there were no RX-1 or RX-2 and so on. Just a lil correction of your seemingly made up fun facts.

The JDM LA43S Luce from 78-81 was called the RX-9 to "general export" countries. USA, UK, Oz where not "general export" countries so they only got the piston powered 929 version. 6x RX-9's where sent to Oz for evaluation in 1980 but the reaction wasn't posative enough to bring the rotary option down under.....
