I completly disagree with pole-dancing, the act in itself is for strippers and perverted women. To show off themselves. They should cut all pole-dancing classes, they are not needed. There are other ways for women to feel good about themselves, like joining a team, doing something worth acoomplishment, not spinning around a metal, sex device. They should be out of business.

A real woman holds her head up high no matter what people say or do. You only empower us to continue doing what we do. You obviously have never taken seen a class. I do not deny that a woman should be beautiful (I am one after all), but to swing around on a metal pole is got to be one of the most perverted practices in soceity. To allow woman to act as strippers is not that far from the real thing. And besides, why would I take a class? Would that change how I feel about the practice? Does that opinion hold up in regards to plastic surgery? After all, if someone has a poor body image, why not plastic surgery? Is that a valid "treatment?"

Are people seeking these services to help them feel better about themselves good or bad? Who is to judge, really? They got the money; the technology is there, I say - go!! It should be clear that simply because one does not find Burlesque objectifying, doesn't mean Burlesque is therefore NOT objectification and does not stem from patriarchy. Keep in mind, cumulative actions have an affect on gender roles. I am quite certain people from Miss America/Universe also find their "work" liberating. It is the language of our age; "liberation," "individual freedom," and "personal responsibility." These are empty words and slogans, devoid of any meaning.

Pretty awesome video. I have many plus size women approach me to tell me they feel empowered after shows too. Also I think the reason why pole dancers are considered sleazy is that pole dancing happens in regular strip clubs every day. We are far enough removed from when Burlesque started that it doesn't have the same connotation anymore. Plus there's money tied to stripping. Burlesque dancers spend more on costumes than they make and many perform for free. Strippers do it for money.
