Yes it is you ignorant, people take offense to it because it was used in WW2 when referring to the Japanese; it may not be offensive you to but to others it is because it degrades the race, just like calling someone that's African American the N word would be racist; maybe if you showed respect towards other races they wouldn't get so worked up, next time you're talking about the Japanese you should probably not refer to racist remarks and actually refer to them as Japanese.
