  • I remember Jewish students protesting at the Soviet Pavillion for not allowing Jews to leave the country.

  • Jean A. Greif Composed the theme song for Expo 74-

Meet me by the River @ Expo 74

  • It cracks me up how bad people say Spokane is.... I grew up in Ca and moved to Spokane 3 yrs ago. I love it here. I have had so much fun living here! I don't think people who grew up here appreciate what they have. I would have loved to been born n raised here. :-)

  • @levelzeroband i did love being born and raised there. i moved to florida in 1985 and i sure do miss Spokane. my job keeps me here but i still make it back to visit. im gonna go back for 2 weeks in july, cant wait

  • Although history freaks me out, I love Spokane and everything about it. The shopping is great with three wonderful malls. You get a taste of every season and the holidays are so much fun. The huge, white, metal butterflies really scare me but still, I like it here.

  • I have lived here for 7 years. Im allowed to say I think this city sucks.

  • I was born here, left a couple of times, came back due to economic impacts (still had a house here to retreat to), and now I'm trying to escape again!!! This place has nothing to offer. In one word "slow" - drivers, thinkers, etc.

  • We were stationed at Fairchild AFB from 1970-76. We were newly weds and rented an apt. in a beautiful old house on south hill. My wife bought us a season pass to Expo 1974 and we went many times and also went to many ot the concerts and shows that were there that year. What a wonderful time of our lives!!

  • Proud Spokanite wavin' a hand!

  • I still have my Expo 74 stuff from when I was there. I was like 4 years old during the fair. My parents helped with putting it togethor. I was born and raised there. Had some fun times there.

  • My Grandfather Jean Anthony Greif, wrote the theme song for the Expo. Meet me by the River at Expo `74.

  • So many students in spokane take spokane for grantid..I Love my city. It really is MY favorite city. xD

  • This just simply reminds me...I have been around "forever" ! Spokane 1974!

  • the river isn't nearly as polluted as it used to be. spokane has its problems like any town, but it is still better than so many other places. if you want hell, try living in detriot, st. louis, chicago...you get the picture.

  • I Remember Spokane in the 1960's and 1970's. I loved stepping over dozens of bums on Main, and teenagers crusing Riverside until you could barely breathe the air downtown. The only thing it had going for it was the surrounding forests and lakes, but now are all bought up and being developed. The Spokane river is so polluted that they were talking about building a fence around it. What morons have done to that river is a discrace and I also enjoy all the meth users.

  • @HappyBrain333 You obviously haven't been to Spokane in a very long time. It is nothing like that anymore. You can swim in the river now. And the city is very clean.

  • @HappyBrain333 Spokane is the best place in the the god dam world to live so dont go on about it if you're not even here and the time your commenting on it in the 70s and by the way the Spokane River isnt polluted, ways to tell; the fish arent f'ing mutated like you find in other rivers, you can see the bottom of it, no damn muck, of all the times ive been to the river not once have i seen any trash, and another way to tell is all the people having fun in it and also, meth users are EVERYWHERE

  • My parents met at the Expo! :) I love my city.

  • I moved to Spokane 3 years after Expo 74 and didn't leave until I graduated from college in 1996! I love this city!

  • We had season passes to Expo 74. I have wonderful memories of an entire summer "playing" downtown Spokane. We didn't miss one day. Saw some of the pavilions many, many times. It was our first introduction to Bavarian Waffles with strawberries and whipped cream. What a fun summer!

  • :) I love Spokane. I live in Otis Orchards, near Spokane Valley, but I have to go downtown almost every day to take the bus to Cheney to go to college.

Thanks so much for the vid

  • So when was this made? It has a late 80s early 90s feel.

  • Another good thing about spokane. Man out is shot there.

  • Whoever posted this video, thank you. I never knew it existed. I performed at Expo 74 at the Energy Pavillion. We did six shows a day, seven days a week. The surprise for me in this video is there is a still shot of me at time stamp 1:30. There's a short shot of a guitarist and a trumpet player. I'm that trumpet player. What great memories this clip brings back. We even had quite a few groupies that would attend almost every show of ours.

  • Hey, what are some quotes for Expo '74? AND who said them, "Celebrating tomorrows fresh new enviroment" who stated that?

  • i had no idea until now spokanne hosted Expo

  • I remember going to EXPO 74 it was a very nice set up and one of the best things that they did to downtown Spokane. Riverfront Park is very nice to visit in the summer.

  • I wish I would have been alive to experience this. I went to the Expo in Vancouver. My Dad has told me many stories of the pranks he did on people down at the park. Like spray painting rock gold and leaving them around and watching people go crazy over them. classic. I also wish I was around for Nat Park. Spokane is boring but it just depends on what you are into. If you dig the outdoors it is a great place.

  • Jeez, I admit peoples, I lived there for the better part of my whole life. I couldn't wait to get the hell out, "too boring" i said. "nothing to do". What I didn't realize was when I got out and traveled this whole country that every place I lived since, Vegas, Chicago, Omaha, San Antonio, Forida, Oklahoma, were far worse than anythings I could have imagined. I miss Spokane and I cherish every oppurtunity I get to go back there. sorry ya'all don't like it!

  • Sorry to the proud Spokanites on this board, but I lived in Spokane my entire childhood, through to about 21, and I couldn't get out fast enough.

  • why woudl you go any length to go to spokane, i live in the "spokane valley" nice little community for sure, but dreadfully boring!

  • Spokane has changed a lot since some of you have been there. I was born and raised here and wouldn't want to live anywhere else. My grandparents went to expo 74.

  • I found the people very friendly on a recent visit there. And ya know the best part? When visiting the malls there, I see no Villi Falau-types (Mary Kay Letorneau's boy lover)who totally populate Seattle-area malls. Who the hell are these darkies? Phillipines? Malaysians? Do even they know where they from???

  • "Darkies?" What are you, a 1950s klansman? What the hell century are you living in?

Vili Falau was from Samoa. And just because you don't know anything about the world around you, doesn't mean others don't.

  • Fuck off! My point was Spokane was absent of what Southcenter Mall in south Seattle is full of, and is the better for it. Klansmen? Why bring that up? I aint talkin' bout blacks. When Villi-Falu-lu types start takin' over, its time to complain. Go check out Southcenter Mall (Seattle) foodcourt. Disgusting!

  • Sad.

  • And this is one of the reasons why I cannot wait to move out of Spokane. Ignorant redneck bigots like you!

  • this was made B4 1982. Now Noxville, Tennise is the smallest city t ohold a world's fair. sorry! i spelled some things wrong.

  • As a new Airman just out of basic training, I was sent to Fairchild, AFB, just outside Spokane. That was in December 1970. Spokane was the most unfriendly town I had ever been to. They hated the military, and I was so happy to leave for Guam in September 1971. I don't think I will ever go back to Spokane.

  • I live in Spokane. It is a pretty damn boring city, and full of a lot of cranky people. It would be a wise move to stay away. There is no point in living here or visiting unless you have to. I know that as soon as I am old enough, I am moving away. I intend to go to UNLV for college.

  • wow you must of had a really bad experience that you wanted to go to Guam.

  • I was in the U.S. Air Force, so, it wasn't a choice to go to Guam. Nor was it a choice for me to be in Spokane when I was there.

  • Also, Guam had a warmer climate and much friendlier people.

  • I have been to Guam and have been trying to go back ever since. I love that place.

  • I love Guam.

  • "Meet me by the River at Expo 74" was written by my Grandfather Jean Anthony Greif. I never saw the Expo, being that I moved to Arizona in 74 and have lived here ever since.

  • Spokane is really a dump. I was there in the summer of 92. I was so disappointed. Stay in Coeur D'alene. You'll be glad you did. Spokane is dullsville.

  • I think Expo '74 truely did have a positive impact on Spokane and its environment.

  • Wow... it's crazy how ugly it used to be. That area is so pretty now

  • it will look alot better when they finish the Kendal Park area downtown and put in those new buildings. Nearby Coeur'd'alene is a nice resort community (minus the neo nazi history)-

  • I moved to Spokane in Oct 1998. It was cool to see what used to be. I love Riverfront Park! I'm so glad they changed it! I'm really glad they left the clock tower! It's a great monument downtown and really beautiful.

  • And I thought Spokane was ugly now, yuck.

  • I love Spokane! There is no place else like it.

  • I LOVE SPOKANE....We live in UGLY ARIZONA, But moving back there in 2 years...home prices willing

  • The best part of Spokane is the Heavy Metal WHORES!!! Ohh and the lack of fresh air in the vally. Smells like gradma's bath water and fast food.

  • I'm from Spokane. Yeah. It's okay...but kinda boring. I like all the gardens though...and Fort Wright Mukagawa. ^^

  • i'd like to punch that old fart that comes on at 3:00, warbling about the old train station!

  • I'd like to PUNCH YOU you idiot

  • i was born here and i love it here, spokane rocks, i wish i could have been there for expo 74

  • Spokane Rocks Everything!

  • Spokan't...

  • We have a winner!!! Tell'em what he's won chip. I years free rent on the hud program in Felony Flats! Then stay in the luxurious Spokan'ts' County jail from drinking and driving. You'll send it with Jimmer and Shims the Meth heads that think the voices in there head are other people talking to them. Congradulations BEETHAM!!!

  • I love Spokane! It rocks! If you think it sucks now, think of how it was THEN!

  • Hey, i would love to be able to download this video to keep, i was born and raised here, i think its awesome to have a part of its history.
