why did the audience sound so enthused?? i like jewel, and i LOVE "summertime," but i'm sorry to be the one to break the news... that sucked. i can't think of anyone who's rendition is even close to being on a low enough level to make a comparison that wouldn't sound ridiculous.
She took far too many liberties with the tune and the lyrics. It sounds good and she has a nice voice, but it's wrong. This song isn't Summertime, it is based on Summertime, she has changed it to the point where it isn't the same song. George Gershwin wrote the tune the way it is for a reason, and Ira Gershwin wrote the lyrics the way they are for a reason. There is nothing wrong with them, so why would a singer ever feel the need to change them? This isn't the same song.
summertime is an old jazz song, performed earlier by Louis Armstrong, Ella Fitzgerald and meny others... This just confirms how great vocal abilities Jewel have...
I looked up lullably on wikipedia, cause I wanted to know the defination & the lyrics to this song were featured on there, so this might be on the new lullably album who knows?
no, its a well known song and it expresses feeling and understanding of the world, dont get your hopes up but your day will come oneday =] im singing this for a piece and im gunna out it on utube
it is written by ira and george gershwin for the opera porgy and bess about 1933 and is told to be based on an unkrainian lullaby. maybe jewel's interpretation is an bit inspired by janis joplin (did cover this too, as many others)
She's right, your mama ain't ugly... moreover, she is so fucking GOOD-LOOKING!.

This is the ONLY bootleg versio nof her singing Summertime..It IS from Jewelstock.she only played this EARLY on the 1996 tour. When she
opened for Neil Young..and no one cared (Neil fans). Ths is probably the best version ...
