Love it! After a while of watching this dance my eyes were drawn to the shadows which were cast on the back wall, which seemed to have an emotional impact on the dance! :) love it x
I Loved this!! at one point in the dance i couldnt take my eyes of the shadows that were cast on the back wall, they seem to add extra feeling and emotion to the dance!!!
wow i'm prolly really late on makkin a comment but this was truly awsome. not only dancing wise but visually as well. The light the outfits....cool stuff.
i loved how first you guys did your own dance. Then near the end you guys did the same thing. It was a great interpretation of the song. Very nice. Loved the outfits too. great visual of man and wife.
Thanks, yeahright2006, I really appreciate your comments. Make sure you check out my Dangerously in Love trio too. It's about a cool love triangle. Have a great day! candicegetsdown2
I'm glad it made you feel that way. That's what being a dancer in this place called "life" is all about . . . Thanks, Brilliantnine! -Candicegetsdown2
I live for criticism . . . I use to walk away upset in dance class if the dance teacher didn't say anything to correct me. I use to add crazy things to steps just so the teacher can hold me back and correct me; and, then I will perform it exactly the way they wanted it to a T . . . just to get attention. It use to get me in lots of trouble, but I think my risky antics made me grow my craft as an artist.
Oh, yes, the repetition comes from establishing Theme, movement vocabulary, Motif, and variations on top of those three things. This is a choreographic form that is used in creating dances . . . I picked this up in college studying dance as a major . . . It helps tie all the steps together; so the story sticks and the steps don't seem random. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I'm still learning . . .
Nice oberservations. I think the hands come from the artistic interpretation of my work from the dancers myself . . . Though my dancers are well past the teen competition scene, it can't help but influence their craft now that they are professional dancers. I give my dancers every step and every count cause I'm a count queen, but the "flow" comes from what they bring to the table.
& What is that Dancers bring to the table? Their experiences that they learn in dance school or style from consistent professional Company work. They learned this all within a total of 6-8 hours over three rehearsals and a run through. I would hate to enforce style on pros in that amount time. They aren't students. I let them be themselves.
If I performed this myself, I would have had the same steps, but I would look completely different. These two did a good job and I feel they strongly complemented each other. Thanks for your keen observations. It makes great discussion:)
To me, "Flow" is craft/artistry. Emotion is a different element all together. That comes from experience of life. Getting back to what is "flow," see what I mean below about what dancers bring to the table in addition to emotion . . .
I mean, "I think the hands come from the artistic interpretation of my work from the dancer [themselves]." Sorry, that earlier statement made no sense whatsoever. All in all, I am extremely proud of the job my dancers did with Ordinary People especially with the short work span and the material I gave them.
candicegetsdown2, i hope it's not just me that's noticing, but every time i'm seeing your work, it keeps getting better and better, i got three words for ya, more! more! more!, i love it!
Oh, my gosh, I would love to come to wherevever you live. I'm just shocked and feel blessed that so many people like this little diddy. I choreographed this so fast . . . Please send me an email if you like through youtube by going to my channel at candicegetsdown2 . . . LOL
No unfortunatly im not ! Im just a photographer/student from united kingdom ! *holds head in shame* if it helps I really wish I chose dancing when I was little ! :D
You know I believe that everyone on this beautiful earth is a dancer . . . just only a few of us should actually be dancing in front of audiences for a living. So, similar to you, many people have a camera, but only few are really good at taking pictures. Hey, if you ever come to NYC, maybe you can shoot me and my dancers one day for your book! Look me up! LOL, Candice
hey man this was REALLY good, how long took u too practice this, this really good, wow im impressed, 5 stars, and thnx for ur video respnse to my video, john legend- ordiary people.
Hey, thanks. It took about 6 hours total of rehearsal over three days. We did this last year in April. As soon as I heard this song on Jay Leno in December of 2004, I just had to choreograph to it. We only had one performance, and I never got a chance to return to it again. Thanks for the comments!
Beautiful!!! At first, it was a little repetitious, but once they starting doing the lifts, I was utterly blown away :) Good job
