i can't believe i was actually involved in this ceremony!! lol an i totally made it on TV as one of the dorky kids in red =) It was raining cats and dogs that day, but it was fun cuz I got to miss school to go to all the rehearsals
@PSD888 It's cos of the 1984 treaty under which Britain agreed not to return to Hong Kong - later when Taiwan threated to break away from China, some years ago, The Chinese Parliament made a law that forbids such independent bids happening. This law also covers the two SARs
The PLA is there to guard Chinese sovereignty over the two SARs though they are not allowed outside their barracks. They have orders to put down any uprisings should they occur. So far there are no uprisings.
@civilaid Not likely us British would return cos like I told you before, Britain had promised in the 1984 treaty never to go back to HK in return for good relationship, economic and trades with China. Britain still keeping that promise while we traded with China so well through to today.
HK people knew that Britain would not return. They accepted Chinese rule or so I thought?
@civilaid fuck british ..the most evil empire in the world...u hav any fucking idea how hongkong is leased by british..its opium war..son of a bitch..british waged war on hongkong just for not buying opium>>>...
@ManOfConsequences And the Chinese gave the British a malaria plagued island, and thought it was a big joke. The British built it into HONG KONG! Tou ni ma!
I was part of the dancers too. It was a glorious day, I am so proud to part of Hk's history. I remember the rain and our white pumps turning pink from the red dye of the clothes X
Terrible,HongKong should have been declared sovereign like every other brit land.but prc were too stuborn to do so.HongKong will fall, traditions will be lost.Prc will make a standard writing in place of the traditional writing system which were used for 1000s years and even through british colonization. And HongKong will be NOTHING,with out the british who invested in building HK.And remenber article 23.Freedoms will be lost all for the world most corrupt goverment.HongKong for independence
Whoever spent all their time uploading these videos I thank thee! Am feeling all nostalgic about this event exactly 10 years ago. I can now relive my drenched rat moment that I shared in HK's history. Check me out as one of the dancers in the front row!!! wooooo!
I only found out when I watched the repeat footage on 'Hong Kong night' on BBC Parliament on Sunday night. The narrator named all the music. I wish the BBC was as good as it was 10 years ago!

Ah, the nostalgia of this day. I was actually part of that massive army of dancers there! It was certainly larger than life.

'fraid not. I'd have liked to have done. Sadly my DVD player doesn't record and my vcr's broken.
