oops! .....stints on Broadway in Spamalot (garnered fantastic reviews. He was incredible in the show!!) And..he really was the real winner of AI2. Two producers even admitted he received 80 percent of the vote 'every single week he was on' (which includes the final).
I don't think the 'win' was 'fixed'. But it has been explained that the one phone line was not enough to count all the votes Clay was getting in so Ruben sort of won by 'default'!!!! Clay would never, ever, say a word about that night. (he has hinted, snarkily, that he knows he was the real winner) He thinks of Ruben as a 'good friend' and I don't think he wants to take the 'win' away from him!! Besides Clay has achieved much more success than Ruben-and I am sure Clay is happy no matter what!!
@shejean i dont get it, cause if the phone line for Clay wasnt enough to keep track of all the votes, that means he was getting a lot of them..and therefore they should've assumed HE was the winner..not Ruben ..
sorry for asking so much, but i started watching idol in season 5, and i've started to really "get to know" and like Clay last year.
Hi! I really don't know what went on 'behind closed doors'. But I don't know if they could have given Clay the win based on his popularity and assumption that he was the winner; but the one line was just not enough to handle all his votes coming in. But..it really doesn't matter-Clay has proven he was the true winner and he is very successful and enjoying himself!! Watch for his new CD out by the summer and a PBS special of all his own in June!!!!
@shejean hi :) no, im not saying they should've given him the win based on his popularity, but based on the fact that you said about his line not being able to handle all his votes. (that must mean the line was overwhelmed with votes). and so if that was the case, (idk about ruben's line) but he should've won cause he had more votes.
yeah, i know he's going to have a new CD out this year! :) i can wait! im from Argentina btw.
Argentina? Cool! Glad to hear Clay has fans in South America! Regarding the voting......Ruben's mother did admit she got in 200 votes on Ruben's line. Clay's mother, Faye, got in only 2!!!!! So.....that does prove whose line was busiest!!!! The only problem I have with Clay not officially getting the win is whenever some media mention him they write: 'runner-up' or 'came in 2nd to Ruben' - when we know that's not true!!! But Clay doesn't mind and most of his fans have 'moved on'!!
