I don't get why he is trumpet player extraordinare. There were some really bad intonation problems. he just sounded so stressed while playing some of it. And some of the tonguing was kinda weird.
I am not the commentator who referred to Bobby as a legend. That is not what he is.
I actually heard Schleuter when I was in
Boston years ago. He is not close to Roberts' tone & special feel.
You can keep your Schleuter. He's too damn traditional & pure.
Bobby has such a lush a warm tone. Butter is a good word. Schleuter's tone hurts. Great for classical I guess, but not for me. Like classical saxophone. Nobody in the outside world sounds like classical sax!

feel like im not even worthy to comment as this guy is obviously a legend, howevr its a beautiful tone, you can have all the fancy licks you want, nothing beats purity of tone like this though
Bobby has an absolutely GOLDEN tone! In person, he is just such a GREAT player!! His trumpet sounds like a flugel and his flugel sounds like butter. MARVELOUS sound!!!
maybe the stressed sound is just the camera, but there were a lot of intonation problems nonetheless.

Mellow tone; great artist -- a treat to see live and listen to on his many CD's

I am lucky enough to have met and spent time with Bobby Lewis. He is as nice a human being as he is a wonderful trumpet player.
