how is Shirley, what happened? i am sad, she found Jenny after more than 20 years due to humans ignorance & intelligence, whom she only knew in the sanctuary.when Jenny passed away, how did she coup up or vice-versa?
I remember when I was a little girl, my dad taking me to the Ringling Brothers Circus at Madison Square Garden. I felt so sorry about the elephants. Now I am able to contribute to the ES to make sure that these precious angels can live in peace in heaven on earth. If you care enough, contribute to the ES, you won't be sorry! All contributions are tax deductible. Just saying.
Thank You for making this. God Bless the sanctuary for this beautiful animals. They should all have peace. I live in Tennessee and this is one thing i am very proud of in my state.
I remember this story being aired one day on a PBS channel here in our local. I will never forget it...SO bittersweet. I cried like a baby and still get teary eyed when thinking of what had happened for this elephant and how, finally, she found peace. God bless the Sanctuary in Tennessee.
That show was just on Discovery again a couple nights ago and it was the saddest thing ever, I'm glad that these poor animals have a place to go to rest in freedom before they die.
That's true, and Soloman, her recently retired keeper, unchains her. Shirley does have an injured leg, but so did Jenny. The prior post indicated the elephants leg had been injured by a dominant male. That is Jenny, not Shirley.
Thanks for the video to remind people like me who loves elephants and especially on the late Jenny. Indeed, how Shirley will miss her so much as I do too to know that a good friend of ours is gone but not from our memories.
Nice for you to take time to do this... I remember watching a PBS documentary on the reunion of 2 elephants that were seperated when brought over from Africa into the US... One elephant in particular had been mistreated and its leg had been crushed by a dominant male elephant... decades later the elephants remembered each other and were unseperable... I never felt so sorry for an animal in my life...
That is absolutely the most beautiful video I've seen in a long while! Elephants - they're one of the most wonderful and wondrous creatures God has made!
Thank you Carol for giving Jenny happiness.

Who can hear the story of Shirley and Jenny and not cry? What a story!
Those of us who love animals thank the Tennessee Elephant Sanctuary every day.
You can go to their site and see these beautiful, gentle giants. They so deserve sanctuary.

Absolutely the most beautiful video. So sad about Jenny's death but at least she had many years with her beloved Shirley.

Robbypalooza, the PBS video was about this same elephant. The elephant with the injured leg was dear Jenny.

The elephant with the injured leg is Shirley and she is the focus of the PBS episode although Jenny is in it also when Shirley gets to the Sanctuary.
