Well done, thanks! The ethanol/acetone shrinks the pores within the p-glycan layer of both Gram (+) and Gram (-). But there's a difference in how much the pores shrink (they shrink less in Gram negatives). Why is this? I assume that the p-glycan chemistry is identical in both Gram (+) and (-); p-glycan is just thinner in Gram (-). Is it because the outer membrane of Gram (-) dampens the effect that the ethanol/acetone has on the p-glycan layer?
