I can explain. Kamina had two levels in Kamina as indicated by his glasses. Simon just surpassed kamina and gained 5 levels in kamina. At the end of the movie version *spoiler alert* simon gained 10 levels in kamina became god and ate the universe!

You have Simon the digger (goggles), you have the Kamina who believed in Simon (Kamina shades), then you have the SIMON who believed in Simon (Simon star shades). I think it shows Simon finally coming into his own and FULLY accepting the SIMON who believes in Simon, not just the Simon that Kamina believed in.

When THAT happened, his FULL power was made manifest and he whooped anti-spiral ass.

If you look closely at Simon's uniform after the fall of Teppelin, you'll see the star and he wears it even though he still has that piece of Kamina's Team Dai-Gurren cloak tied around his left arm.

That star is all Simon.

Yeah, I'm leaning heavily toward Starlock here. Even the Kittan-memorial symbolism aside, the star shape has some extra space at the top, giving the silly-on-paper but cool-on-screen impression that there should be a third eye there. In short, it makes him appear something more than human.

Try any frame where the shiny glasses obscure his eyes, like the first two or three minutes of 26. He looks like some kind of vengeful cosmic god, not a person.
