If you were to move 90% of the jobs out of Silicon Valley the exact same thing would happen there. Once people do not have the means to earn a living they stop spending money on the local economy and the decline starts. It's not who ran Detroit that killed it. GM moved almost every job out of Detroit and Flint and sent them to Mexico. Then they bought Hughes Aircraft and ran it out of business within a few years. Florida is run by the GOP and they have a higher unemployment rate than Detroit.

As I grew up in the suburbs, when I went into Detroit, I wore inconspicuous clothes, didn't make eye contact with anyone, and stayed with the crowd. I wish I had been around to see it in it's prime...

There are still some things and businesses that are thriving (surviving) in detroit, it is declining but I LOVE MY CITY!
