cale yarborough hitting the wall and then passing two cars was killer,cool, man cale could drive.thanks for posting this vid,love to see jr.johnson drivin that famous 63 chevy.that car was eight mph faster than any of the fords,dodges,pontiacs.first and second place cars,jr. won the pole in 63 for the daytona 500,with johnny rutherford second in smokey yunicks car.they were over 8 mph faster than the 3rd place car.the ford teams wrecked them durin a caution lap,CAUTION LAP! ON PURPOSE,JEALOUSY.

That was great! It brings to light how tough it was back when my uncle, Jimmy Florian, won the very 1st NASCAR for Ford in 1950 on a dirt track. He knew all those tough racing guys. Here is a video of my 85 year old dad, Jimmy's younger brother, going 150 MPH in a Petty car 5/7/11 at Darlington! The desire for speed runs in the DNA at ANY age! Its on UTube under the title:

"Ford's 1st NASCAR win's brother racing at age 85!" These guys are truly "the greatest generation"

The confederate flag was flown into victory lane because the race was the Rebel 400. You sure as hell coudn't have a Rebel 400 today. Political correctness is certainly more important to NASCAR than it's Southern heritage. Today's NASCAR really sucks. Thanks for posting a great video. Cale and Pearson going at it at the end of the clip is classic.

Some of the tracks didn't even have pit walls, much less low ones. Several guys were killed at Darlington when they got run down in the pits.

And, of course back then, the winners used to kiss the trophy girls on the lips. Try that today with the Sprint Cup girls and the lawyers would come running.

Wasn't around during this era but there's no doubt it was the best. I know the current cars are safer but how I'd love to see today's version of the win-at-all-costs mentality from the manufacturers. What would today's Charger Daytona or Superbird look like? Would love to see what these engineers and race owners could concoct.

The footage at 2:55 had a dark background. During the 1965 Southern 500, driver Buren Skeen was t-boned. He did not survive. That was his car being towed.
