The real problem with Iran is that it is becoming increasingly difficult to see them as a simple "enemy", when so much of their youth demographic is secular, moderate democratic reformist/revolutionaries; exactly the types the US, and the west more generally, need to combat Militant Islam and extremism. Ironically, this fact in the short term at least, makes the situation more complex with respect to nucular Iran; as soon as tough mesures are taken on Iran's nukes, it tends to reduce this divide

To be honest it seems this guy is very biased towards Iran. He's leading the idea that whatever happens in the negative side on the middle east is at Israel's fault. Israel treated Iran as evil so Iran became evil. And though i wouldn't claim that public statements raised by Iranian government is everything there is to it, i would argue that ignoring that and just saying "they don't really mean that.." is to be stupid and ignorant. Iran is dangerous and to be recognized as such.

The US did the right thing backing Israel from the beginning. The fact that Israel is a nuclear power was not addressed. Israels security should be a concern for all. Israels security is a primary concern of USA. USA cannot allow Israel to feel threatened. Dr. Parsi has a great depth of insight into this triangular relationship and his elegant explanations are refreshing.

I am skeptical as to some of his interpretations (i.e., Israel's willingness to assist Iran in purchasing arms during the 8 year war - Think Hezbollah) but all in all, this conversation was a very thorough breakdown for the one hour duration. A more thorough rundown can be found in his book, which I recently finished reading.
