If they wanted to make sure the flights were safe they would be screening 100% of the checked luggage, something they don't do, and they would be using bomb sniffing dogs instead of body scanners that don't detect PETN explosives. The government has no right to violate your 4th amendment right without "probable cause". Just buying a plane ticket doesn't make you guilty until proven innocent.

@JrG171 Yeah, some times the truth is harsh. Deal with it. The reason for all the security theatre isn't some plan for the government to control you or usurp your rights, it is almost entirely so when some terrorist attack finally succeeds, they can say they were trying really hard to prevent it. If the American public in general acted more like adults, and could be counted on to have a sane reaction if another attack happened, this theater wouldn't be going on.
