dont get me wrong i think joe bonamassa but i cant watch anyone else play a rory gallager song on it if it was a replica i wouldnt mind as much but knowing its the actually one hmmm!
Guys Joe knows what he sounds like, in nearly every interview he can't stress enough that the sound comes from the person, this is a tribute so take it for what it is and please stop complaining.
Joe Banamassa does not need to do tributes or any other kinda shit like that. He is a great talent so was Rory and Gary Moore, just get your act together Joe and be your own man and stop using other people's equipment
Felt a little sad and also a little wierd not seeing Rory behind his guitar-like a leg transplant or something? I think Joe is a dedicated and very hard working player and because of this and his positive attitude i hope he will be as influential as Rory to a new generation.Love,Rich.
Interesting to hear Rory's strat in other hands. Clearly the guitar had something of its own that comes alive in a good pair of hands. It sounds like Rory's strat. It sure doesn't sound like Rory though. Mr. Bonamassa is a fine player, but I don't see me running out to get his records. For me Rory is like food, sleep, drink, women, and music - an absolute necessity. There was the time before I was aware of Rory Gallagher and the time after. The time after is much better. Few do that for me.
All these Rory Gallagher and Rory guitar videos I've been watching lately make me want to trade in one of my Gibsons for Strat! Joe has an awesome sound here, not quite as wildly unchained as in some of the live performances of Rory's but great none the less. I'm sad and embarrassed to say that I have only recently discovered Rory's music but you know what? I haven't been able to put my guitar down since... Finally I am truly inspired again. Talk about the gold at the end of the rainbow man!
@messermithz Disagree dude, Joe's totally respectful of the guitar and its history. Besides the guitar should be played, not kept as a relic museum piece or sold to some collector. It wants to be played.
Where does it end? I don't know what else to say. I mean playing Albert Hall, Playing Rory's very own strat... Wow. Impact!
As a huge admirer of Rory's music I had to see it to believe it and honestly I still don't. Rory's strat makes Fort Knox with all it's gold look like Disney Land! That's for sure. Lucky Joe B. no that just doesn't says it all. Extremely brilliantly lucky Joe B.
Rory lives in Joe's hands ! THAT guitar to me, is worth more than a Stradivarius violin...Rory would like it, but probably not the suit or greased hair, not his style of dress...
great to see the great Rory Gallaghers old Strat back out on the boards and hard to think of a better player to have it in his hands than the incomparable Joe Bonamassa
It's like a sword. Some people would like to destroy it and bury it with the warrior, some will keep it in a museum and some will like to carry it an use it. I really enjoyed seeing it played by Joe B.
Why does a talented guy like Joe bother to play the guitar of Rory?? A guitar is just a tool to make sound. The musician behind it makes the music, The guitar can have a specific sound but that can be corrected with electronics. Joe, please do your thing, you are good at it!! You can not compete with Rory because he is dead so he will always win! This video did cost you at least one fan.

Wow, I really didn't want to like this video - there's nobody that can fill Rory's flannel shirt, and a guy in a crisp white shirt and suit behind that strat just looks wrong - but he did Rory justice here...nice work!
I don´t think it´s a bad thing. Joe is possibly one of the best alive players right now, and the fact that the best player of the world consider an honour use rory´s strat just talks u about the huge legacy and influence of rory
Rory was definitely one of the greats and I am sure he is looking down and thinking....yeah rip it up Joe on my old Strat. JB was a big fan of Rory's playing. Sounds damn good & wish I was there!
incroyable!!!!! c'est fabuleux!!!! ce super-hyper-mega -guitariste , Mr Bonamassa qui joue avec la strato de Rory, bravo, bravo, bravo, bravo et merci 1000 fois Joe!!
100% respect to both artists but seeing Rorys Strat played by someone else makes me feel a bit empty. It should have Rorys Strings on it covered in his DNA. Its like someone coming out wearing one of his Check Shirts.
It's not a fake. I was there when Sandi received it from the Gallagher family at the Hammersmith. The family lent it because they knew Joe would treat it with the greatest respect. Joe was humble with it and played it with great reverence. Maybe those Thomas' out there could do the same...
@themarkgamble Have to agree Mark. Also, as much as Joe Bonamassa is an excellent guitarist I think there are better people to have lent the guitar to. However thats just me and I definitely dont want to play down any exposure Rory is getting.
Cradle Rock! One of many great tunes written and performed by Rory Gallagher. Check him out, there are a ton of Rory videos on YouTube. Check out the Irish Tour '74 vids in particular...

great video again Pete, wish we could have been there with you guys. Last time I saw that guitar was I guess about 30 years ago in Guildford Civic hall!
That iconic Strat looks and sounds pretty good on Joe. I was at the Friday Apollo show and I had a permanent grin plastered across my face for the 2+ hours he was onstage. Without doubt the best gig I've seen since Lynyrd Skynyrd blew the Stones offstage at Knebworth in '76.
great performance by a great musician-i saw saturdays show and think Joe is just getting better and better; i saw Rory perform this song on a number of occasions and have no doubt whatsoever he would be delighted with Joe's performance and a great guitar like that should be played by a real great
Great video once again Pete! There really is only one person in whose hands that instrument could sing its sweetest song, and that was Rory. But it is great to see it in action once again, and no one better than Joe to play it, since unfortunately it can't be Rory.
I was very fortunate to see Rory live twice in the early '70s in a small club. There will never be another like him; someone that great and original is never repeated. Joe Bonamassa has not done maliciously, he wanted it out of honor to Rory Gallagher. I think the person who owns such a Rory Lady, it should play in his private area!
I find it sad that on Rory´s cost profit made. In fact taken the industry-maker to earn a fortune. Everyone wants the most orginal Rory Gallagher Stratocaster. Only Rory turns around in his grave, his Lady is locked in a glass box, staring at everyone. And then says that cold-hearted industry that we can make it even more and makes a copy. It would be as if the beloved partner of a doll is made so that may also have other that pleasure!
I'm pretty sure Rory would approve..guitars are meant to be played. Rory would not want to see his strat become a museum exhibit when it could still sing.
Good job Joe....and the Beth Hart cd is blinding.. 4 days to record?? Took me that long to get the cellaphane off it !!
Rory is one of Joe's biggest heroes....playing Rory's strat was a huge honour for him. I was there.....it sounded awesome....thanks Pete for capturing it :))
great playing by Joe, and what a legend to honour Rory, he really does bring that sound back but with a Bonamassa twist!....do i detect the body of the guitar has been given a coat of cellulose to protect it?...looks shiny compared to the older videos of Rory playing?
"My Profile picture is of the true master of that guitar.. the last two night all I did was to try do that guitars legacy a small bit of justice.. Rory was one of the best of all time and the privilege of playing that guitar is truly a life changing experience .. Thank you Donal and Dan Gallagher.." Joe Bonamassa.
@omegalast800 I do agree completely, I heard Jeff Beck say in any interview that he copied everything he possibly could from Rory then I was able to borrow one of his albums. I had never heard such playing before with the exception of Hendrix, Rory was in a class by himself.
It's very strange to see anybody else holding a Rory's guitar, maybe i'm wrong but I emotional. I like Joe music but Rory's guitar is too much for me to watch
@MrBlsplr51 What kind of a reply is that?...............obviously your a yank that know nothing of music or talent judging by the crock of sh1te you up-loaded (DSCN1934)....wtf is that all about?! NOT music, that's for sure lol
Incredible! Even though Joe is playing it, it stills sounds like itself! Like when Rory had it! That Strat really has a sound of its own! :)
I'm not a huge fan of Joe Bonamassa, but it's nice that one of the "new" guys are giving credit to Rory! By doing so he might be able to turn new people into Rory!
@spr30 You said a mouthful. Actually, I think the strat was fast asleep. The ONLY other guitarist who could have woken that srat up, would have been Peter Greene, circa 1968.
Normally I'd have said "sacrilege"! But, Joe's such a great player and it's about time that old strat saw some action again. Rory would laugh at all this attention though! :)
This is awesome absolutely awesome! It's great to see THAT guitar played again, it has such a sweet tone. And it begs the question?..........Why oh why did Joe give up on Stratocasters?
Both of these guys have influenced how I look at playing the guitar. To see Joe wielding that strat and playing that song is bittersweet. Rory is still here, but I will never have the opportunity to see him play.
Oh Boy!! Rory would be delighted to see his faithful Strat being brought back to life, as I am sure Dónal is and I sincerely hope that Dónal was able to see the live performance - wonderful stuff :D
This is a fantastic thing! It doesn't really sound like Rory, it sounds like Joe so lets not be silly. This strat screamed and sang in a certain way in the arms of its master and it has never sounded the same since he left it behind.
a fine job in his own right, but as good as Joe is, as well as how great it is to hear that one of a kind Strat again after so long, there will never be another Rory Gallagher. Rory's style can never be duplicated. not even close. great video none the less. obviously Joe was honored.
@92bluestrat ---I totally agree and could not have said it better!!!!
Here's what Joe wrote on his Facebook after the show: "Thank you Donal and Dan for one of the greatest guitar experiences of my life." [Donal is Rory's brother and Daniel is Donal's son.]
Awesome job Pete!! Wish I were there to share it with you all! Joe just keeps getting better! How is that possible? And Tal Bergman is my favorite drummer~~he just brings it every time~~gotta love him!
What a privilege for Joe Bonamassa, to think of the music that poured out of Rory's soul through that guitar, you can almost hear Rory coming out of it, his DNA is soaked in it, next thing to sacred, thanks to Rory's brothers Donal and I believe he said Dan for letting Joe play Rory's strat, quite a treat for any Rory fan and of Joe's.
@peachhead3 Thanks, I knew Donal is Rory's brother, wasn't sure who Daniel was at first but then realized he had a lot do with the recovery of Rory's unreleased album which recently was released as Notes From San Francisco, the second live disc I think is amazing.
When I saw this video's thumbnail I literally said to myself "No shit.....". Pardon the language, but this is amazing for several reasons. Its Rory's STRAT! and a rare glimpe to see Joe back on a strat is also fantastic.
dont get me wrong i think joe bonamassa but i cant watch anyone else play a rory gallager song on it if it was a replica i wouldnt mind as much but knowing its the actually one hmmm!

Don't go away without hearing the real McCoy. Never to be duplicated.

@GuitarPlayerGeo So true! Joe deserves the honour, he's always given Rory the respect he's due and been very vocal about it

This is awesome absolutely awesome! It's great to see THAT guitar played again, it has such a sweet tone. And it begs the question?..........Why oh why did Joe give up on Stratocasters?
Rory LEGEND!

Brilliant work Pete, thanks so much!

That sound! It's the guitar! There's more "Rory" here than when Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Eric Johnson played Jimi's Woodstock Strat.

What's the second song he plays?
Oh, and this is proof that Joe needs to get back onto a Strat!

@fv1967 ---Donal is Rory's brother and Dan is Donal's son.

Joe is only the second person to play this amazing guitar after Rory passed away, the first was Bernie Marsden :) Thank you for this - Amazing!
