  • Mean Joe Greene: 'Well, I never played against Jim Brown, but if tackling him is anything like tackling Campbell, I wouldn't want to have to tackle him either'

  • What is scary about Earl was that most of his runs looked just like these highlights except they might not have went for as many yards.

  • wtf he is fucking killing

  • Damn. Jack Tatum gave Campbell all he could ever give another man and Campbell still stays the course and rights his own balance. Truly amazing. It's at 01:23

  • He's a fuckin beast!

  • he is one of the best no one you can really compare to him the only one thats some what similar is jim brown

  • loved to watch Earl run...those were the days.

  • Love Ya Blue!

  • Earl is everything you could ask for in a back. Speed, and the ability to truck through anyone.

  • my favorite part was when he crouch slid and pushed two guys over

i think hes like a shark fast but made of raw power

  • Hey THANKS For a replay of ALL those GREAT Houston Oiler Teams. I lost more sleep watching them Loose every GD AFC Title game to Pitt. Crap! They were in the SAME Division, so they played each other X2. But the Superbowl Ran through those Adam Henry's (AO's)!

  • earl campbell would have had a longer career if the oilers didn't have bad turf

  • @solomon1995able You mean that (shit-hole) Asshole-Dome?

  • earl campbell would have had a longer career if the oilers didn't have bad turf

  • His career was like Gale Sayers. Opposite running styles, but both among the most memorable in terms of running style. Awesome.

  • What made earl the best? Strenght? Speed? Power? No, those things made him great, but theres plenty guys out there today that are stronger and waaayyyyy faster. What did Mr. Campbell posses that made him the BEST?

    AMAZING BALANCE and COORDINATION.

Thats why he never went down, and why he smash into tacklers like a run away freight train. BALANCE

  • @dresendezz I completely agree with you on the balance. However, it wasn't just that, it was the combination of the power (34 inch thighs), strength, speed (4.5 40 yard dash), coordination and the balance that made him amazing. And all that was at him being 244lbs too.

  • @tinbucket69

earl ran a 4.7 not 4.5 and he weighed in at about 225 not 245; though agree with you too, its the combination of things that made him amazing.

what i meant is that his biggest, though by no means only, strength was his balance and coordination.

either way, in my opinion he is the greatest back of all time.

  • its crazy that he dint funble the ball, cuz he be carrien it like a loaf of bread

  • @jime3o That's why Pastorini's ball fakes to him were so awesome. He could put his two hands together and I swear they looked just like a football. Same size and color. Heck you'd think there were laces on them if he was wearing tape. It's amazing he was not a good reciever, but he could grip the ball like a pitbull on a rope swing.

  • 1:14, how did he not go down?

  • this is for the 5 dislikes, you apparently dont know talent when you see it.

  • earl campbell the most exciting rb of all time normal guys wouldnt last a single season running like earl so it is impressive that he did for 7

  • Imagine playing defense. The play starts Earl Campbell has the ball and is running your way. FUCK.

  • OMG. Did he choke-slam a dude at 51 sec?

  • The best running back since Jim Brown.

  • Even the name, "Earl" is tough!

  • running backs today run like they have dresses on , they dont run to the hole, if there is no hole they dont run.Earl, bo, billy, carr, dupree, little joe etc would kil these players that bump, they dont tackle anymore. 95% of the time if peterson gets hit hes down behind the line, most of the time 1 guy will grab him and hes down.

  • We have 4 aggie fans!! And the scary thing is if the oilers didnt have to play the steelers 3 times a year they would of won 2 rings

  • I miss the days when RB's would run people over instead of acting like ballerinas trying to dance all over the field.

  • @BearBaylor69 That's because - unless you were Christian Okoye at 6-1 253 lbs - RB's, back in the day, could truck LB's and DB's, with ease. Hell, there were RB's that could truck DE's. Today, even though Adrian Peterson (6-2 220 lbs) is a powerful, speedster (4.3) he would be crushed if he tried to truck DE-Julius Peppers (6-7 290) or LB-Ray Lewis (6-1 250) or LB-Sean Merrimen (6-4 275). These guys would stop Earl Cambell in his tracks! Different game, today!

  • @bsptlw shut up man todays nfl is a frilly fair campbell couls still play to this day

  • @BearBaylor69, it's whatever works. If dancing around, spinning, making moves, etc. gets the yards then they should do that. RBs shouldn't run over people just for the sake of doing it unless it is a more effective tactic. And these days, where the game is and the abilities of defenders, I wouldn't push a RB towards Campbell's style unless they were a freak of nature.

  • @jdlund

Earl Campbell was a freak of nature

  • @Hosunlee89, well yeah, that's my point. He had a very rare set of attributes and talents. While it was awesome to see I wouldn't advise any RB to try that style unless they were a freak like Campbell. Someone like Barry Sanders would have been destroyed had he tried that, which is why his method was much smarter for him.

  • earl campbell to me was the greatest runningback ever power size strengh speed a rampaging bull with 36inch thighs that could knock a man out if hit by them to bad bum phiilips use him to much with his running style and carrining the ball 30 times a game and he suffed a lot of grouin pulls his career was shortened alot of people didnt know he and dan pastorini the quarterback played hurt alot that just shows his tuffness he was great image if he had the offensive line from the1990 dallas cowboys

  • one of da best id say better than jim brown for sure cuz power+speed= a beast

  • @earnielee29 Jim played 9 seasons and NEVER missed a game.Earl was in the same class as Brown but no one was better...6 foot 2 inches 232lbs 2% body fat comeplete athlete.

  • cant be stopped! only 10 steeler's could stop him!

  • Earl had more juice than OJ ever thought about.

  • Love the mystical force of nature music. Got a nice superhuman feel to it.

  • @hardnose81- Best tribute I've ever seen of Earl Campbell. I applaud you man, good work/Great tribute to my favorite RB ever.

  • @dewey001100. Larry Csonka already had an unneccessary roughness call before Earl was even playing by doing a stiff-arm that the refs said was for of a punch. Not to mention the guy he did it to broke his jaw and got knocked unconscious.

I am surprised Earl didn't get some fouls, though. Namely the one where he plays the Rams and he spears that linebacker.

  • @Shutesumfools He was sort of like early Shaq where the refs didn't even know how to call what he did to people.

  • 3 homo's clicked dislike.

  • 1:25 "Bitch dont you know who i am? I'm the Juggernaut BITCH!" hahaha

  • Earl Campbell vs Jack Tatutm is one of the best hits of all time

  • Campbell & Sanders BEST ALL TIME !!!

  • thumbs up if u think earl campbell is the greatest RB of all-time.

  • has anyone seen the video were earl campbell was in collage and carried a guy 10 yards into the endzone?

  • 3 Dislikes.....obviously from defensive backs.

  • if EC had had a solid offensive line to back him up like the Cowboys when he played, he probably would have broken ALL yardage records.

  • if EC had had a solid offensive line to back him up like the Cowboys when he played, he probably would have broken ALL tardage records.

  • @marKism69 If Earl had played for the Cowboys instead of the Oilers . There is no telling how many Superbowls Dallas would had won during the seventies. It sure would have pushed them the rest of the way over the Steelers during that time!

  • @SteveMayfield007 That was the best D to step on a field ,ever. No difference.

  • @Icyhotboo He nearly single handily beat Pittsburgh carrying Houston on his back for all of those years. With everything Dallas had. In addition to Campbell, the way Dallas pushed the Steelers during those 2 losses. Dallas would had run the gauntlet all over Pittsburgh!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You better check these Earl Campbell videos again. lol.

  • @SteveMayfield007 During the latter part of his career with the Dallas Cowboys,Preston Pearson was widely recognized as the player who defined the position of "Third-down back." Dalls had the FB and the better offensive team with Stauback but Pitt had the a defense that held Oakland to 29 yards total rushing in the AFC play off game.

  • @Icyhotboo Preston Pearson was a fantastic player. But, except for the great Jim Brown, there are no comparisons at all to The Tyler Rose,Earl Campbell.

  • Respond to this video... In addition, If jackass Jerry Jones hadnt pushed Jimmy Johnson out of the HC job in Dallas during the nineties. Dallas would had run the gauntlet over anyone that dared to get in their way....Two decades blown , one due to not signing the correct running back and the other to a management decision.

  • @Icyhotboo All the difference in the WORLDDDDDDDDDD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dallas took Pittsburgh all the way to the brink both games. Earl would have cleared the road both games!!!!!!!!!

  • i love power backs!

  • i like pie

  • If earl campbell plays in the nfl today, he would be first offensive player ever to get fined for personal foul by running over ppl too viciously.

  • great, but he'd have dozens of fumbles these days if he carried the ball like that.

  • brandon jacobs is the prototype of earl campbell

  • @combat2thearms yea right.all jacobs wants to do is try to run over ppl.you cant be a power back but fumble and get popped too

  • who made this music??????

  • Dude was a beast and one of the greatest

  • Dude was a beast and one of the greatest

  • He would have a very short career inthe NFL today. Every one sees the stats and drools over Earl Campbell. Don't get me wrong, he was one of the best of his generation, and because of that, an all time great. But watch the video again.... alot of his runs are extended because NONE of the defenders are hitting him low. They all meet him at the chest and higher.... not a single tackler in this entire video is getting low, getting leverage and upending him

  • @MrMulligancraigm JACKASS!! THAT MAN HAD 32 inch thighs!! Would you hit him low????? Not a football player I see!! LMAO!!

  • @MrMulligancraigm Today defenders can't tackle at all (high or low), Earl would 3,000 yds a yr against these pussies. They can't tackle him low, because of his 30" inch thighs.

  • I was always impressed with Earl Campbell. Notice no dance in the end zone. He acted like he belonged there and it was not unusual.

  • I noticed that too. He was a class act, either handing the ball to the ref or simply laying it on the ground. A true professional, unlike some of the selfish, egotistical so called "athletes" today.

  • @gmcummings It cracks me up how IDIOTS think handing the ref the ball makes them classy!!

  • @demonchildking shut up! it is a sport for entertainment yunno!! so they entertain..let me guess you werent good at sports and evny their actions ..hahahah your a lame!

  • @demonchildking It does and they are not idiots. Act like you've been there before is a good way to go. Nothing wrong if you're an endzone dancer. It's all good fun, but everyone doesn't have to do it.

  • Earl Campbell = Touchdown!

  • I remember every one of those plays. The only notable play missing was a long one against the bears where used moves instead of power to make two dbs crash into each other.

  • The fullback bulls and the halfback finesse. Campbell, get out of his way. How did you feel about Mike Alstott?

  • if i rem correctly watching him in HS, he would at times get up from a tackle slooooow, i would go uh oh hurt? NO conserving energy to do it AGAIN!

  • 1. W. Payton 2. J. Brown 3. B. Sanders 4. E. Dickerson 5. E. Smith 6. E. Cambell 7. OJ Simpson 8. G. Sayers 9. M. Allen 10. T. Dorsett
  • @moham8803 Like the list but how is barry not 2nd man he had more rushing yards than anyone if you took away the runs he ran backwards for. not to mention he played with the LIONs worse team then as well. john riggins n franco harris should be in top ten as well but nice list.

  • First thing that impressed me about Mr. Campbell is how he'd drop a whole line with a quick cut. Years later I discovered Barry Sanders who reminded me of 34's style. mamma don't kno shit about football, but the year we had season tickets she saw one game i remember 2 this day - Earl raised to stiff-arm a corner she said "oh no". BTW he averaged a couple of jerseys a game. Haven't seen that in a while.

  • earl campbell= human train

  • 1:05 random cowboy

  • @BalsamicTuby WTF!?

  • All in the thighs. He had 30 inch thighs. Raw

  • i love the video, but Walter Payton (A.K.A. Sweetness) was such a better runner. i'm not saying i don't like Earl Campbell, i'm just saying Walter was better.

  • What raw power. Just sheer dominance. Victory.

  • Who does the soundtrack for this clip? It's awesome and gives me goose bumps. I'm ready to put on a helmet

  • Earl holds the record for most jerseys torn during a career.

The man was pure strength and willpower.

  • okay so why did you choose that lame song...

  • The original truck stick

  • Personally, my favorite runner of all time. I wish I could've watched the guy live. Nobody could ever match his power when he was running the ball. I think he would blast Ray Lewis. If a guy like Jack Tatum couldn't stop him, in an era where "dirty" hits weren't dirty yet, then nowadays he would completely dominate in my opinion

  • thumbs up if you think earl campbell is all power with a touch of elusiveness and speed

  • Proto-Sanders

  • @mediblue9 amen to that!

  • This video is awesome, it not only showed how powerful Earl Campbell was, but that he had some serious speed and he could cutback too. He had a complete game, run with power, speed, and elusiveness...he just didn't want to be elusive to much!!!

  • Yeah I only wish that the cowboys got him because Earl is a hell of alot better that Tony Dorsett

  • wow his jersey came off!! come on his mother effin jersey came off!!! he was such a monster he would not stop pumping his feet wow!!!!!

  • The Rams LB #58 that gets buried by Earl is Isiah Robertson.

  • greatest power back ever only second to sanders. if he played today he would hold the rushing title year after year

  • every time he got the ball to him it was the last play of the super bowel

  • If I remember correctly, the play with the arrow drawn in was where he basically ended Dave Elmendorf's career. I think he was a rookie. Feel free to check me on that if you wish.

  • @Jalfmar3 are u serious??

  • walter payton vs earl campbell

  • awesome!!

  • One of a kind. played football not just like a sport but a kinda art . state of the art. rapid response weapon. big . fast , and agile. with one eye on the end zone, and the other on the defenders. will he skip around them ? shrug them off? haul ass past them, or run right over them? a LEGEND. the one play where he is swarmed , runs back like 20 yards from the line of scrimage. swings around and still pulls a big play. amazing.

  • Earl was a monster a true iron man he played like a animal today he is cripple walks with a cane he says he would change the way he played if he could go back looking to hit someone these NFL players today wineing about the league doing something about hits well those guys go visit earl then say you dont care about long term affects I played the way I want and willing to pay the price yeah right

  • NFL not even fun 2 watch anymore...why watch they get mega bucks,,,not 2 play get hurt sit on tha side most cant takle, most cant catch,,flags all tha time

  • peyton hillis is the closest thing to earl campbell we have since deuce mcallister retired

  • @deejay114 na peyton hillis is more like bo jackson or mike alsott

  • @deandeanbryant30 well youi have a point there but i was saying is he is one of the few modern running backs who dont puss out after being touched by 1 defender

  • its all about lowering your shoulder and trucking someone and knocking there ass out, in the NFL now i see no power runners that even compare to what earl campbell was.

  • I HATE RUNNING BACKS NOW...BACK THEN NO ONE WENT OUT OF BOUNDS OR TRY TO FAKE SOME ONE OUT WHAT HAS THE NFL COME TO?

  • Peyton Hillis reminds me of Earl Campbell

  • Imagine what he could do today!!! Wow!!! Earl Campbell v Ray Lewis...EPIC!!!

  • @jpoulivaati thats not a competition you saw that hit he laid on the rams linebacker. earl would blow through ray

  • @coolbrounderscore I think Earl would blast Lewis too. But in today's game I thnk Lewis, Harrison, maybe even Suh are a few of the really physical players. Besides, today's game they don't tackle, they try to get highlight hits. They would just bounce off of Earl.

That hit by the Raider CB where he stumbled in for a touchdown, that would be a Godell Fine today!!!

  • @jpoulivaati wow!!!!

  • @jpoulivaati Well he face JACK LAMBERT, JACK HAM, JOE GREEN, RANDY WHITE, JACK TATUN, and they were as geat players than Lewis, that realy was EPIC!!!

Jerome Bettsis beats Ray Lewis a copule of times, and also he make looks very bad Urlacher

  • @jpoulivaati Well he face JACK LAMBERT, JACK HAM, JOE GREEN, RANDY WHITE, JACK TATUN, and they were as geat players than Lewis, that realy was EPIC!!!

Jerome Bettsis beats Ray Lewis a copule of times, and also he make looks very bad Urlacher, that was almost funny

  • @jpoulivaati

I think of eddie george and ray lewis..... he's prob the last power back like this

  • @jpoulivaati

I think of eddie george and ray lewis..... he's prob the last power back like this... they had a nice rivalry goin between those two

  • this is back when defenders actually tried to wrap up.

  • Opposing teams cried when they had to face big Earl and the oilers back then!

  • The Tyler Rose= E.P.I.C.

  • Damn BIG EARL "THAT MAN WUZ HUGE" tha whole team of def,,went 2 work just 2 stop him..

  • The guy would knock the helmet off a bull! The guy was was a total "Texan", the way he played the game. Take life by the horns, dive head first into life. I'm not even from Texas, but that's what he reminde dme of.

  • I remember that hit on Isiah Robertson (Rams) at 1:30. OUCH!

  • haha 1:05 wtf?

  • Campbell had the misfortune of bad timing-the Oilers were arguably the 2nd best team in the league for a while but it was while the Steelers were winning. If the Oilers had been strong after the Steelers say the early 80s, and if the team hadn't disintegrated as it did after Philips did, Campbell might've had a longer career AND gotten deep in to the playoffs.

  • People like to believe that his style of running was the only cause of his shortened career, but the truth is that the Oilers collapsed after Philips left, and there wasn't much of a foundation for any back to hold on to. Peyton for example had a solid franchise behind him his whole career, Campbell did not.

  • hes great butt he wudnt do that nowadays bc defensive players now can tackle alot better .hes like a brandon jacobs

  • @h00dnigga13 That's entirely untrue that today's players can tackle better. The like to hit in lieu of tacking, that's been going on and getting worse over the decades.

  • wow u just dont see backs fight for yardage like that anymore now its all about who is a better sprinter and fall down when a linebacker gets close to you

  • There have been many great running backs (Jim Brown, OJ, Etc), but I still think Earl was the greatest running back. The Reason I think this, is first he ran in the late 70's when weight training was used extensively (not used in Brown or OJ's era). You had great defenses to deal with because of it. Earl had to deal with the greatest defense ever (Steel Curtain) which was in his division. When Earl ran all the defenses focused on him. 14 game season almost 2000 yds & perfect power/speed/heart

  • I never in my life would run like earl campbell. Not because im scared but i know the effects it has on your body's in later life. He was a tough man.

  • Watching this hurts me

  • If it wasn't for a lame Ref call on Mike Renfo"no Catch" in end zone in AFC Champioship game in 79 the Oilers would have destroyed the Rams in the Superbowl

  • He was the best RB of his short ERA. 1978-1983. His style of play limited him to a short career. His highlight films show you just how amazing he was. From 1978-81 he had a 5.2 yards per carry average. His later years with the saints ruined his stats. The entire Houston Oilers team was built around HIM! From 78-82 he destroyed Tony Dorsett and Walter Payton.

  • it looks like he holds it by the laces like a qb scrambling

  • Earl Campbell was like a giant version of Barry Sanders, he not only had brute strength but he had moves too.

  • Dammmmm It !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! H-Town Football

  • They don't make'm like this anymore...!!!

  • @Mrchikenkatsu Well said, most players today would rather be famous for a few high light films and avoid the defender and then act like a damn fool in the endzone, sidelines, or off the field.

  • Earl was a "human freight train"...can anyone name a running back that had that power? Earl also has CLASS!

  • @2taxedout for three years he was the best ever. The only two I'd put in his class of power would be Bo Jackson and Jim Brown

  • I agree with you but jackson relied much more on speed although he could break tackles and punish. You are also forgetting larry csonka.

  • @nardo363636 somewhat,but I'd rank Csonka a notch below Earl,Bo,And Jim.

Athletically,Jackson was the best of them all. It sucks his football career was so short,or he'd easily be in Canton as a first ballot.

  • I disagree with you about Csonka, both he and campbell had similar power running games but Csonka had the hardware with an undefeated season. I agree with you that Bo Jackson was amazing for his short career but Jim Brown is the best runningback of alltime. The beauty of sports is debate and opinion. On a different note, this Campbell video is pheonominal, its hard to get good footage of the calssic players and this video has it.

  • @nardo363636 The biggest problem Earl had was playing his career at the same time as the legendary Pittsburg Steeler teams of the late 70"s. Imo, the 78 version was the best team of all time. 9 hall of famers playing at the peak of their careers.

If Earl had played just a few years later,I think he gets a ring too. When the Steelers started getting old,Earl was starting to wear down

  • larry csonka

  • hahahaaa 1:20 'I'll eat that'

  • Baddest mutha fucka of all time!

  • The greatest ever. The Tyler Rose. There will never be another. He is truly one of a kind.

  • holy

  • shit

  • Earl is the greatest

  • So many people say pro athletes are overpaid......I think they are right in most cases. However, If you had Earl Campbell pound on you for 3 hours on a given Sunday afternoon you earned your paycheck. What a great back. He had very deceptive speed too

  • Earl Campbell is a big man. omg

  • he is my favorite because of his style.......plus he was handed the ball 35+ times per game and the defenses knew who was getting the ball and still couldn't stop him.

That says a lot about the power he had.

  • best power back of all time

  • Wow this guy runs like he's on PCP

  • @antmayfield lmao. head azz!!! lol yeah he does...

  • @antmayfield

hahahahahahaha thats freaking hilarious man i give that joke a 10

  • He can play on my team thats for dang sure.

  • Bo Jackson and Hershel Walker were good in their prime but Earl Campbell stands alone with his great power and speed.

  • My favorite RB to watch, ever. Although Payton is the best ever.

  • Great to see again. Watched him as a Longhorn and "Earler."

  • One hard running dude...very underrated and i'm not sure why.

  • what was earl campbells height and wait anyone?

  • @westsider95114 Listed--5'11" 232#'s 5 Time Pro-Bowler, 3 Time First Team All Pro. Inducted into the Hall of Fame 1991.

  • Id like to see him vs ray lewis or lawrence taylor head to head
