Something is not right here. If methane is claimed, then there can be no oxygen (hot planet where methane will react with oxygen to produce CO2 and water). If there is no oxygen, where does the water come from?
@oomblikkies take mars for example, mars has water, correct? yes it does! but does it have oxygen? yes very little, but that doesn't mean in it's history that at some time it could of had or have life. and at 1 time oxygen might of been present more then it is.

@jkjkjij22 I do agree there were a lot of stupid things that ppl have done in the name of "God" and their religion but again its going to extremists. in history, w/o religion and the values it teaches there would have been less order, more chaos, less chance to grow as a civilization. considering they are not even 2 decades into using hubble. and that there are SO many planets orbiting sun's across the universe. life is guaranteed to exist elsewhere.
they've been holding us back since the dawn of god.
if god never existed technology would be 700 years more advanced. and thats anything but an exaggeration. if anything 700 years is an understatement.
the dark ages killed anyone who even thought about thinking about thinking about thinking about questioning the church. once church came into power it set humanity back to the mindset before ancient greek and romans. where ppl were allowed and urged to question and learn.
@jkjkjij22 I used to think the same thing until I studied history more. Copernicus, Kepler, Galilea, Newton and even Einstein all emerged from Judeo Christian communities. Once one realizes the big picture of how science did NOT take off in China, Austrailia, South America or Africa, one can get the whole picture, despite the evils perpetrated in the name of Western religions.
i'm not quite sure i'm understanding what ur saying fully.
although they emerged from these communities, they did not accept everything that was presented to them. i don't care if ppl believe in god. i care when that gets in the way of free will to think and progress the human race and progress science. i think science progressed greatly in south america and china.
@jkjkjij22 I'm saying to look at the big picture. Of all the continents, the leading science emerged from where Judeo Christianity was present. There has been great science accomplished around the world, but it lagged significantly behind to Galileo, Newton and Einstein. Some would say their achievements are in spite of Religion. Even if so, the credit would still go to religion as the catalyst or enabler.
@lasertuber True, but they emerged after church power was significantly reduced. The church was no longer able to hang people whom it charged of being heretics.
@jkjkjij22 I would take your point further and say that religious oppression dominated until the age of mass media, around the 1950's or 1960's, albeit not by hanging. My point is that it might have been the oppression itself that indirectly created great science. Complex systems are often counter-intuitive like that. Sorry for the blunt analogy, but excrement makes plants grow better. LoL
@lasertuber i agree. religion gave ppl something to question. thats the effect its having on me. my dislike of religion's existence is part of why i'm in the program i'm in.
@jkjkjij22 which program is that? I was resentful of religion's misdeeds for at least the first 10 years of my adulthood. After seeing more of the world, I learned to also weigh in the good things that the church has done and try to see things in proportion, relative to real civilizations around the world and throughout history. Christianity comes out looking pretty good when compared to the Mayans. LoL. I think Mel Gibson tried to make that point in Apocalypto.
@lasertuber Do you remember the ending in Apocalypto? When the Europeans arrived? Within the first hundred years of their arrival 99% of the native population died. The central scope of the movie are the predictions being made about their apocalypse, at the hands of Christians, from what I could see. Whether or not Gibson intended for it to be that way, that's what I got out of it.
@Bardarnok Yes, that's what I was referring to. 99% sounds too high, but I get your point. I would also guess the producers left it open to interpretation intentionally. Knowing Gibson's bias though, I still believe he was making the point that as bad as the conquistadors were, the (Christian) civilization was better than the "evil" civilization there in central America. It was an amazing culture, but lightyears away from producing a Galileo.
thats a bit of a silly statement my friend, he never existed....your thesis states ther is a god and he is holding humanity back.
There is no god and powerful people in religious, spiritual and political positions have used religion and fear to preserve their status quo, and exploit the natural faith humans possess for their own aristocratic agenda
isnt that what you really mean?
i agree...however, you cant know its all speculations and that is not scientificaly correct
@jkjkjij22 there are extremists on both sides, don't blame religion and God. If there wasn't "religion" there would always be some group against it exploration, if u pay attention and stop being so ignorant you'll notice there are many non-religious ppl that don't think we should go to space or look out, but rather we should look down and explore the oceans and Earth more in general... so shut up about the religion thing yer just making yerself sound stupid.
@Spirito2008 do you know how much money globally is going into religion? do you know how many people are fighting to cut science funding? how much time, energy, and money is being wasted on the fight against abortion, or gay marriage? how much TIME people spend on religion? i'm not saying exploring the universe is our number one priority. but religion has it's fat dick up societies ass.
@piratebri I don't know where to start. I don't know if i should feel anger, or depression or indifference to all this fucking nonsense. such pointless waste of life.
The true Christians, the ones who actually paid attention to the Bible, lead The Crusades. The Bible is a horrifyingly brutal and disgusting book if you would actually take a look yourself.
@Paradox3121 gee the good Samaritan and love thy neighbor doesn't mean a thing to you and i didn't see anything in the bible that told them to wage war in Israel. the corrupt kings of the middle ages are responsible for the crusades. the world is horrifyingly brutal and disgusting and if you really want to know conquest is how the ancients made money and they did it long before the bible
Gee, the "stone your disobedient children" (Deuteronomy 21:18) and rampant sexism (along with other pages upon pages of atrocities contained in the "Holy" Bible) don't mean a thing to you.
I don't need that fucking horrendous book telling me to be altruistic, I have a bit of common sense, something you desperately need to start using.
Oh, and if you somehow think the Crusades motivated by religious fervor, then someone needs to smack you on the head with a fucking history book.
@Paradox3121 learn to read you dumb fuck ass hole the bible is a history book just be glad that some one had the guts to write down what PEOPLE did all those years ago. funny how you blame a book for what is normal behavior in most of the world that doesn't call themselves Christians. by the way i didn't call the bible "holy"
-Funny, I bring up a Bible passage and I'm simply told to "learn to read".
-Leave the insults to us immoral atheists, you're not very good at it.
-"History book"... Right.
-PEOPLE?! Like CHRISTIAN PEOPLE?!
-No, the stuff in the Bible is not normal behavior in most of the world, not even close. Most human suffering comes from disease and starvation, something your incompetent god should be taking care of.
-I didn't say you called the Bible holy, it's a common prefix.
@Paradox3121 yes i told you to read your small mind doesn't know what a christian is you see i was calling out the FAKE christians just watch tv and you will see a hole bunch. i guess i will have to tell you that i don't call the bible holy because it isn't holy can you understand that. you see christians wont kill me for saying that. Most human suffering comes from disease and starvation, caused by corrupt governments not god, nature, or whatever name you call the natural world
If you're going to keep calling me stupid, at least refute my points and stop using the grammar of a fucking third grader.
You brought up the Bible in a good light, and I gave you a Bible passage clearly stating that you should stone to death disobedient children. You've ignored that completely, which tells me you're absolutely blinded by your religion. It's pathetic.
And sure, there are some cases where greed cause starvation, but most of it and disease are not greed's fault.
@Paradox3121 gaud do i have to dumb it down more so you can understand you see you are just a hater lost in your little world to ignorant to know right for wrong. Now i will hold your hand and tell you the christian passage, he who has no sin let him throw the first stone. never read that one have you dumb fuck
@Paradox3121 what ever dude you just proved to me you empty your ass bag into your head ... I just called you a shit for brains ... had to tell you cause you are dumb. good to know that my religion is no different from Islam cause I'm a atheist.
@Paradox3121 In other words: Paradox wins. Thanks for playing ..... lol you must like being a shit head cause shit heads never win they just think they do
@Paradox3121 taking qoutes from the bible is so stupid. the problem with the bible is it dosent tell you how to live other than giving your energy to a made up image, projection in your head and if you dont do that then you go to hell. people who take qoutes outa the bible just run around in a circle with there head cut off with a dick in there mouth. religion is the worst thing that happend to the homosapien species. jesus is the worlds opium. go fuck yourself
Uh, hey guy, watch it with the friendly fire. I was QUITE CLEARLY proving that the Bible is a pile of shit.
Perhaps if you had even read the post surrounding the quote I referenced or even the fucking passage itself, you would have realized that. Try not to be as ignorant as a Christian next time.
"funny how you blame a book [Bible] for what is normal behavior in most of the world that doesn't call themselves Christians."
Whoa, whoa, whoa... sacrifices, slavery, murder b/c of different beliefs, stoning to death, etc, etc, etc, is... "normal behavior"?!? Where do you live that such things are "normal"?!?
I see you must have forgotten how this was the same "normal behavior" when Christianity ruled over people just over a hundred years ago. The difference between Middle East and the rest of the world is that Islam still has a strong hold of the majority of people's lives! There are waaay more atheists and agnostics in other religions compared to Islam... which wasn't the case just a hundred and some years ago!
"Make it up as you go along"... what?! You CAN'T be serious!!! I'm talking about HISTORY! Go open ANY history book and read what used to happen during the Dark Ages in Europe... and in continents that were colonized by European settlers (like the Spanish and the English)! Are you saying Christianity NEVER caused harm to anyone? You can't be THAT ignorant!
@LolJesusDied1 They, the Jew, Muslims and every other type of unfounded "faith-based" (which translates to indefensible bullshit) belief system has been holding the human race back for hundreds of years (Although Islam did do a lot of good in scientific advancement of humanity until relatively recently). Since the revolutions of the 18th century, when people began to really question and force back the authority of the church and state, we've had an explosion of invention and discovery.
@LolJesusDied1 Oh really...? Where in the Bible does it say you should kill scientists? There's a big difference between Man fucking up, which happens all the time - and what the Bible says about tolerance. If anything, the Bible tells you to be tolerant of everything, you moron.
One of my favorite channels. Keep us informed on the great discoveries as they come in. I have always wondered why NASA claims the Hubble can't give us any better detail of the surface of our moon than a land based observatory.
Saturns moon Titan from what I am aware contains a large percentage of methane, including methane oceans so perhaps, if you know why, or how that came to happen it might be able to answer alot of the questions about this extrasolar planet, though personally it is tough with hot jupiters seeing as how we have none in our solar system. (I am just a high school student don't be too harsh if I'm way off)
ok, but the earth isn't the smallest planet in the univesrse, it isn't even the smallest in the solar system: it's actually the largest of the four terrestrial planets (Mercury, Venus and Mars) and is also much larger than any dwarf planet, from Ceres to Pluto or Eris.
true but, "full" of oxygen? remember the Earth's atmosphere is only about 20% oxygen, the vast majority is nitrogen, and there are also some other gases
It's very possible, but perhaps not probable based upon our current knowledge in the field of biology, that there is non-organic life in the Universe.

Christians will hold us back i guarentee it
LolJesusDied1 2 years ago 63
they've been holding us back since the dawn of god.
if god never existed technology would be 700 years more advanced. and thats anything but an exaggeration. if anything 700 years is an understatement.
the dark ages killed anyone who even thought about thinking about thinking about thinking about questioning the church. once church came into power it set humanity back to the mindset before ancient greek and romans. where ppl were allowed and urged to question and learn.
jkjkjij22 2 years ago 18
@jkjkjij22 I used to think the same thing until I studied history more. Copernicus, Kepler, Galilea, Newton and even Einstein all emerged from Judeo Christian communities. Once one realizes the big picture of how science did NOT take off in China, Austrailia, South America or Africa, one can get the whole picture, despite the evils perpetrated in the name of Western religions.
lasertuber 2 years ago
i'm not quite sure i'm understanding what ur saying fully.
although they emerged from these communities, they did not accept everything that was presented to them. i don't care if ppl believe in god. i care when that gets in the way of free will to think and progress the human race and progress science. i think science progressed greatly in south america and china.
jkjkjij22 2 years ago
@jkjkjij22 I'm saying to look at the big picture. Of all the continents, the leading science emerged from where Judeo Christianity was present. There has been great science accomplished around the world, but it lagged significantly behind to Galileo, Newton and Einstein. Some would say their achievements are in spite of Religion. Even if so, the credit would still go to religion as the catalyst or enabler.
lasertuber 2 years ago
@lasertuber True, but they emerged after church power was significantly reduced. The church was no longer able to hang people whom it charged of being heretics.
otaibinm 2 years ago
@jkjkjij22 I would take your point further and say that religious oppression dominated until the age of mass media, around the 1950's or 1960's, albeit not by hanging. My point is that it might have been the oppression itself that indirectly created great science. Complex systems are often counter-intuitive like that. Sorry for the blunt analogy, but excrement makes plants grow better. LoL
lasertuber 2 years ago
@lasertuber i agree. religion gave ppl something to question. thats the effect its having on me. my dislike of religion's existence is part of why i'm in the program i'm in.
jkjkjij22 2 years ago
@jkjkjij22 which program is that? I was resentful of religion's misdeeds for at least the first 10 years of my adulthood. After seeing more of the world, I learned to also weigh in the good things that the church has done and try to see things in proportion, relative to real civilizations around the world and throughout history. Christianity comes out looking pretty good when compared to the Mayans. LoL. I think Mel Gibson tried to make that point in Apocalypto.
lasertuber 2 years ago
@lasertuber Do you remember the ending in Apocalypto? When the Europeans arrived? Within the first hundred years of their arrival 99% of the native population died. The central scope of the movie are the predictions being made about their apocalypse, at the hands of Christians, from what I could see. Whether or not Gibson intended for it to be that way, that's what I got out of it.
Bardarnok 2 years ago
@Bardarnok Yes, that's what I was referring to. 99% sounds too high, but I get your point. I would also guess the producers left it open to interpretation intentionally. Knowing Gibson's bias though, I still believe he was making the point that as bad as the conquistadors were, the (Christian) civilization was better than the "evil" civilization there in central America. It was an amazing culture, but lightyears away from producing a Galileo.

if god never existed?
thats a bit of a silly statement my friend, he never existed....your thesis states ther is a god and he is holding humanity back.

Spirito2008 11 months ago
@Spirito2008 do you know how much money globally is going into religion? do you know how many people are fighting to cut science funding? how much time, energy, and money is being wasted on the fight against abortion, or gay marriage? how much TIME people spend on religion? i'm not saying exploring the universe is our number one priority. but religion has it's fat dick up societies ass.

The true Christians, the ones who actually paid attention to the Bible, lead The Crusades. The Bible is a horrifyingly brutal and disgusting book if you would actually take a look yourself.
Paradox3121 1 year ago
@Paradox3121 gee the good Samaritan and love thy neighbor doesn't mean a thing to you and i didn't see anything in the bible that told them to wage war in Israel. the corrupt kings of the middle ages are responsible for the crusades. the world is horrifyingly brutal and disgusting and if you really want to know conquest is how the ancients made money and they did it long before the bible
derrick713 1 year ago
@derrick713
Paradox3121 1 year ago
@Paradox3121 learn to read you dumb fuck ass hole the bible is a history book just be glad that some one had the guts to write down what PEOPLE did all those years ago. funny how you blame a book for what is normal behavior in most of the world that doesn't call themselves Christians. by the way i didn't call the bible "holy"
derrick713 1 year ago
@derrick713
Bullet time.
Paradox3121 1 year ago
@Paradox3121 yes i told you to read your small mind doesn't know what a christian is you see i was calling out the FAKE christians just watch tv and you will see a hole bunch. i guess i will have to tell you that i don't call the bible holy because it isn't holy can you understand that. you see christians wont kill me for saying that. Most human suffering comes from disease and starvation, caused by corrupt governments not god, nature, or whatever name you call the natural world
derrick713 1 year ago
@derrick713
Paradox3121 1 year ago
@Paradox3121 gaud do i have to dumb it down more so you can understand you see you are just a hater lost in your little world to ignorant to know right for wrong. Now i will hold your hand and tell you the christian passage, he who has no sin let him throw the first stone. never read that one have you dumb fuck
derrick713 1 year ago
@derrick713
Uh... I have, but that's another passage. You didn't even look up my passage.
Deuteronomy 21:20
They shall say to the elders, "This son of ours is stubborn and rebellious. He will not obey us. He is a profligate and a drunkard."
21) Then all the men of his town shall stone him to death. You must purge the evil from among you. All Israel will hear of it and be afraid.
This is your "normal behavior" that Christian philosophy is founded upon. Your religion is no different from Islam.
Paradox3121 1 year ago

Uh, hey guy, watch it with the friendly fire. I was QUITE CLEARLY proving that the Bible is a pile of shit.

@Spetsop i see you must not of heard of the horror stories that happens in foreign countries, that is their "normal behavior" not ours
derrick713 1 year ago
@derrick713
