I wish to thank this lovely lady for sharing her knowledge rather than to criticize her for not sounding like a maestro. Where I live, there aren't any affordable music teachers around.
I'd always wanted to learn indian classical and sitar but could never afford the fees. I've learned more about the basics through this than through worthless written tutorials. Those who're calling her worthless are requested to kindly put some effort together and make better and free tutorials themselves.
my friends..I bet you more than half of you have no idea what this woman is doing. This is not for Indians...indians go to the indian teacher and learn at their mercy. She is speaking to the rest of the world. If you are a trained classical musician of indian origin the world doesn't need your charity on youtube. Keep charging your big money and private lessons.

This woman has a good theorical knowledge. In fact, she's an ethnomusicologist. This aspect of research is for sure very interesting but it's not because one has a Ph in ethnomusicology that it means that he can teach this music.
THEORY IS SOMETHING AND PRACTICAL SOMETHING ELSE... IF YOU REALLY LOVE THIS MUSIC WITH REAL DEVOTION AND AWARENESS, YOU SHOULD MAYBE STOP TO TEACH THIS KIND OF THINGS. PLEASE REMOVE THIS VIDEO.
Maybe she has sought out theoritical knowledge and a Phd in Ethnomusicology, because she has a love, awareness and devotion (which every can clearly see) for music...ever thought about that before spewing out your prejudice crap?
Your passion for this music is touching and it seems that you have a good theorical knowledge but it's not because you have a Ph of ethnomusicology that it means that you can teach that music. THEORY IS SOMETHING AND PRACTICAL IS SOMETHING ELSE...
PLEASE RESPECT THIS MUSIC AND YOUR GURU. so PLEASE STOP THIS "TEACHING": YOU BRING CONFUSION IN MIND OF PEOPLE
Amelia, May God bless you for teaching us how to become better singers. I have contacted many Ustads and all they are is about how much money I can pay them before they teach me. Your videos has been a blessing and Ive learned so much. God bless you and thank you.
I really like this different way of singing. All I ever hear in the States is their way of teaching singing, which is not bad in any sense! It's just that, I don't know, this style of singing helps to give a different feel or dynamic to a song, you know what I mean? Like singing it in the Western way is good to convey such-and-such emotion, but singing it in THIS way gives it a much different effect which gives a whole different feel to the song. Let's take a page from the East!

I appreciate that you are uploading indian classical music videos...... But I dont think you learned it from any guru.. Indian music is not like western music it is much more defined, i mean more bounded by laws.. Every body knows sa re ga ma but its not right the way you sing it.. Your tongue wont allow you to sing it properly as you are English(Accent) .. YOu tube is powerful medium so please stop uploading your videos...... just an opinion...
classical Indian problem! we take too much pride in Indian classical music and religous text and Vedas and puranas and Ayurveda, but we hate to disseminate that knowledge. And when someone else tries to selflessly pass on knowledge for everyone benefit, we criticize them, and belittle them. And yet we want the world to think that we are the best, that our culture is the best and blah.
Fully support the lovely lady who is at least trying to share her love for music with everyone.
@pricoolest You are absolutely right- How many Indians are selfless like her to teach somebody like me who yearns to learn. She is doing a good job by teaching people like us. I am very thankful for this lady. She is doing a good job. And me being a Indian I am appreciative of her. I could never learn vocals in India. I am learning from her now.
you are all blaming her about her being a Westerner, well believe me, behind every bad Westerner singer of Indian music, there is always some Indians who let her do so. Who's to blame now?

Nobody Pls dont follow this. She says dont strain, and she her self is straining.
When reaching the top SHADJAM itself, she is going false throat...
When she sings AAA -kaaram, she makes a lotz of mistakes.
But I appreciate her desire to learn Hindusthani Music.
But She is trying to bcome a GURU, that is not acceptable, as she is misleading others.
