To prevent notes from ringing out, it's best to combine a controlled palm mute with a left-hand dampening of the string. Let your palm lightly rest on the ringing string while you lift your left finger so that it's barely touching the string.
If you can't do this well, isolate the problem and practice it. For instance, try creating an exercise where you palm mute a chord until it sounds muted.
Have you ever heard / saw someone Sweeping on acoustic guitar? I'm trying to learn sweeping on my acoustic, 'cause I don't have a electric yet. Great vid nevertheless.
Heh, well, I've seen plenty of people sweep on acoustic. I do it a lot myself. If you do it right, it sounds really good on acoustic. To see some masters at it, check out both Joscho Stephan and Tommy Emmanuel!
I wonder, how much time did you played guitar when you started sweeping & shredding?
I mean, I play for, like an year, and I'm very interested in sweeping and shredding, doing exercices daily with a metronome, going from 40 bpm to 60 and so on, I'm wondering if it's too early or not
The process is really different for everybody. It took me awhile to get into fast guitar, largely because I didn't take it seriously for awhile. One thing to be careful of: if you're going to learn fast soloing, don't forget to practice the rest of guitar also (rhythm, chords, songs, soulful stuff) - too many "shredders" have tunnel vision. The other thing is unless your acoustic has really low action, you might want to get an electric.
Hello people. I made this video awhile ago as a request, but never released it. I figure it wouldn't hurt to show you guys, even if the video is ancient now. So view with an open mind knowing that this is OLD!
A good lesson, but poor video image
