I visited that same place and stood where you where a couple years ago, with my school. Can you tell me if this is true. They told us, that that gold thing in the back, was representing Poop......
Ramen Coma is probably your gallbladder struggleing to keep up with all the oil in the ramen, try and avoid oily ramens or get them served in better oils like canola or olive. Sorry dude I get it too, but worse with pains in my side because I wouldn't lay off when I should have when I was younger. COme to Texas I'll hook you up with some tacos, it's what gets me over here anyways.
Great visuals - nicely done. I have so many shots of Sanja Matsuri taken during the 10 yrs I lived in Tokyo... someday I'll put them together in a slide show, I hope.
Ha you know what's funny is that I was there on the same day at the same festivle when i went to Japan, though i was only ther for a few hours. Also about tha golden poop, the first time I saw it, thats exacly what i thought it was. The funny thing is that on the trip my friend bought a magazine before coming back to the US, and onece we were back she saw an article about it and she read it and she said that it was called the golden poop, which was very funny, ha!
Regular fotune may be "chu-kichi" in Japanese. I like a "chu-kichi" more than "dai-kichi" which's an excellent fotune because too much luck isnt good.
Maybe it's just because it's late at night, but that whole fish turning into a bird fortune made me laugh for much too long. Amazing, though. I wish you the best of luck with that battle.
Those fortunes can be kinda spooky though. My wife and I got one each and mine basically said "yeah this is going to be an awesome year - great job review, great economic opportunity, blah blah ... but your wife will be delayed". Hers said "you will have to work damn hard and will still be late." It was true ... she got stuck in Japan three months while I'm back in the states. ... ...
lol wasnt bein hostile, just pointing it out u kno, sorry for bein misunderstanding....maybe I should put an expression next time XD
still u should read the description first before asking......ppl tend to put the music to the side of the description....but IDK.....I dont blame ya, Im sometimes lazy to read it too lol....
Interesting, somewhat similar to Catholic festivals in those countries, where a village will have a statue of Marie or something and carry it around the streets.
@Yori38> "gaijin" 「外人」 means "foreigner" (particularly a person, who also looks like that). Another translation is "a person, regarded to be an enemy"... very nice.
If you want to say "foreigner" without this negative meaning, you could use "gaikokujin" 「外国人」.
I might need subtitles to understand cooney's friend (matt??) Literally, the only thing i heard him say was "golden poo", which at that point, prompted my uncontrollable laughter. I still am not sure what he was talking about but that's okay.
hahahahaha i love that messed up fortune. i remember i got a regular not so good fortune and i was like O.o huh???? so...ive got regular fortune but...its not so good???
It's fun to re-watch these videos after going to Tokyo- I went to that temple and got my fortune told (the best fortune!) and all that good stuff. And I bought way too much crap in those streets.
NOTHING is more sexy than beautiful sweaty women carrying an Omikoshi with a Hachimaki (a traditional headband) among all those men! I have a fond memory of being a participant in the procession beating the Taiko drum when I was about 5 years old. God, how I miss growing up in Tokyo in the 70's.
With your "regular fortune", I hope you'll continue to entertain (and educate) us for, well, 'til it runs out... :)
And thus ended my ability to make coherent commentary! That said it all. I actually was "skooled" on this video, meaning that I learned something. Keep up the good work Cooney, you tell it how you see it.
you and your morphing fish, that does seem rather regular though... wait I mean... yeah, no. anyways, glad to see you put up another vlog, I was starting to wonder. maybe I'll see you this summer while I'm in japan should I stay in tokyo for long! man thongs... euh... just didn't seem real necessary.
Hahah! Regular fortune (^_^)... well, there are there still levels of regularity. I once got a "regular-little bad" fortune--- but no morphing fish in it. I loved your NIKU tat at the beginning & really enjoyed the whole video-- great takes & educationally entertaining commentary. Subscribed!
When I went there I only whished I could have gotten a chance to drink ! Matsuris are fun because of the people...oh dear, all your videos make me laugh.thanks for the entertainement!
Some nice footage, but Sanja Matsuri is a Shinto festival and has nothing to do with Senso-ji apart from the fact that Senso-ji happens to be situated right next to Asakusa Jinja, which the festival is centered around. Senso-ji is a Buddhist temple and Asakusa Jinja is a Shinto shrine.

haha funny thing with the fortune: what the crap? i either want your guna die from cancer in a month or im guna win the lottery! haah and thts so funny the thing with kenji..
Yeah, recently there has been some trouble with the yakua. Two incidents where there were shootings. One guy killed the mayor of a city, and other guy shot a police officer. So while people generally just ignore the Yakuza recently they have been talking about them alot in the media
No, the two events were totally unrelated. And in the case of the mayor it seems the guy who shot him was just a nut job. Basically when the Yakuza have an agenda it is achieved quietly because they dont really want attention.

Haha, This video is so bizzare yet hilarious, That "regular fortune" had me laughing but it was the description that did me in -- great stuff cooney, good to see you and kenji are doing well
Simply great... I just finished first day of SSUI (summer school in syracuse) and I was in a bad mood (three 2 hour classes). But when I saw this video, I was in high spirits again... lol. You couldn't have picked a better day to post this video.
Go orangemen! Actually I was wearing an SU cap in this video. I also have a dinosaur barbeque shirt I keep meaning to wear in a video as a shout out to my syracuse hommies.
I would say minimum 70,000 yen a month. It really depends on where you live as well. Tokyo is a big big city so you have lots of choices but usually people prefer somewhere near Yamanote-Line or Chuo-Line. Ikebukuro is on Yamanote-Line.
nice video!..ok now seeing this(and your other videos) I have to go to Japan...btw can't wait to see your fish turning into a bird! your definetly become a proud papa..hihi....and another thing, how can man wear the thong..must be not confortable ...you know what? you should try wearing the thong!..and see how it feels like haha
Man thongs? .........whoever invented those should go to hell.......but awesome vid! can't wait for the next one! and I've got to go to one of those Matsuri's after i move to Japan!

The Sanja Matsuri is defintely interesting. I went in '03 and was shocked by all the "man thongs" as you put it. So has Kenji flown away yet?

Unfortunately I became a bit intoxicated and my desire to film decreased. I should have just filmed myself I guess.

Question, how much does it cost for to rent a decent place in Tokyo?
aedean 4 years ago
I would say minimum 70,000 yen a month. It really depends on where you live as well. Tokyo is a big big city so you have lots of choices but usually people prefer somewhere near Yamanote-Line or Chuo-Line. Ikebukuro is on Yamanote-Line.

Nice, thanks I live in Honolulu, Hawaii and people here pay about $800-$1000 for a one bedroom apartment or studio.
